Congratulations to LeanderMomma for being the first to reach 1000 posts! For those who haven't had the pleasure to meet Cindy, she is the ultimate band mom. She was a member of the varsity band and color guard at Harding Academy (TN) during the 1977-81 seasons and remains a fan to this day. Her youngest daughter marched in the Leander (TX) band during the 2013-16 seasons, but Cindy has remained a staunch supporter of that program and all pageantry performance groups since. She has even traveled to follow Leander to GN despite no longer having a student in the band. Cindy is part of the moderator team on this site and is a great advocate for the activity.

Woo hoo!
I’ve been a member for a little over a year and just reached 1000. I’ve been a member in TXBands.com a little over 3 years and am at 3300 there. So evidently I average a little under 1000 posts a year.
I don’t know whether to be proud or alarmed. 🤣

And I look forward to that! 😘 Another way to grow post counts is to comment on each band during a contest on a forum. I have done that for BOA Houston the last couple years on TXBands since we haven't had a live blog...

Rank them, best to worst: 1. Band parent that doesn't have a clue and just loves that their children participate 2. Band parent that does have a clue and loves that their children participate 3. Band parent that doesn't have s a clue and is forcing their children to participate 4. Band Parent that does have a clue and forces their children to participate. 2 1 3 4 Though I could flop 1 and 2 depending on the situation.

I’m a 2 all the way. I loved band as a high school student but I didn’t force it on my girls. When daughter #3 decided she wanted to do band in 6th grade, I was thrilled. I had ZERO clue what we were getting into in high school though. What a phenomenal experience that was!

I would add two types (and place them at the top of the list): Band parent that has a clue and participates/volunteers in support of the organization. Band parent that doesn't have a clue but participates/volunteers in support of the organization anyway. THEN, I would keep your 2-1-3-4 order.

I think I’ve been all 4/6 of the descriptions. 😜 3-Didn’t have a clue with my oldest and “forced” him to join something in highschool..... 4-Then had a clue and forced him to continue to participate because he needed to be involved in a group of some sort to keep from getting lost in the shuffle of a large school. 2- second child I didn’t have a clue and didn’t force her into anything... just held on for the ride.... 1- 3rd and 4th child I didn’t force anything and by then knew what we were getting ourselves into... until 4th switched to guard and I’m learning again. Somewhere around 2 moving to 1 I started the volunteering when I still had barely an idea of the scope of the booster organization... and now I feel like I can say I know about stuff and am still volunteering.

I was definitely a 2 as I was a band nerd in high school. TMEA All State French Horn for my Junior year. I placed 14 so I performed in the Concert Band. We were a military family so I relocated my senior year and did not compete. Music performance major at Del Mar College Corpus. Transferred to North Texas where I later learned how much tenured music professors actually made and change my major. Lol. Mostly joking but with a kid on the way I graduated with a Business Degree. Music has been a blessing to my family. 3 of my 4 children were all band students. My oldest was the most difficult and I feel if it wasn’t for the discipline learned and given during band we would have lost him. This Art is more than the love of music. It is a comfort and salvation for so many kids and families. To the Future of Music Ed!

Hmmm... Where in that ranking do you put choir people who stumbled into these forums on accident and just never left? If you are or were a band parent, at least one of them applies to you. If you never had a kid in band, you're a fan who didn't happen to be a band parent.
