Today we have the privilege of welcoming a prestigious new addition to HornRank’s 1000 Post Club!! While he’s no new addition to either the BOA forums or the HornRank forum, hewhowaits is our latest entry into this highly sought after club. While everyone knows HeWhoWaits for his wisdom and wit, there might be some things you didn’t know about him! Here are just a few:
He’s old enough to be your Dad. In fact, he is the father to our very own Allohak (Jeff)!
He attended his very first marching competition in the early 70’s. (Wow, he IS old! I didn’t attend my first marching competition until 1977!).
His real life name is not Gramps, though he is one...nor is it Walt. Or John. Or Jim. Or Ed. Nope, it’s Chris. Bet you didn’t guess THAT one!
Although he attended marching competitions, Chris has never actually played a traditional marching band instrument. In fact, he attended football games just to support the band. And like most band supporters, he often left after the halftime show.
Chris dated band girls in high school and former band girls in college. (Obviously he REALLY liked band...or girls….or band girls in general).
Married to a former band girl. Of course.
Chris worked the pit crew for the AMAZING William Mason (Ohio) HS Marching Band for 6 years and is known for never having carried more than 25 guard bags/purses at once.
One of his son’s referred to him as “the cool band parent” but shockingly, that son was NOT Jeff. (I know...none of you is shocked).
One of my favorite facts about Chris is that he has worked at BOA events as a volunteer since 2009. That means you can usually spot him at the band exit during Grand Nationals, among other places. (I was honored to have him sit with me and impart some of his great BOA wisdom during Leander’s prelims performance in 2019).
Chris’ greatest claim to fame, and the thing he is most proud of, is his ability to pick out exactly which clarinet squeaked and when it happened during a certain 5th grade band concert.
Well there ya go, that’s just a little bit of perspective into our long time band aficionado, HeWhoWaits, but it is truly just scratching the surface of the many facets of my friend Chris! Welcome to the club, sir!
