I'll list off my favorite Texas bands and then national
Texas: C.T. Johnson Round Rock Hebron The Woodlands Rouse Vista Ridge Cedar Park Flower Mound Clear Brook Seven Lakes Wylie East Cy-Fair
National: Blue Springs Avon O'Fallon Township Tarpon Springs Bentonville Bixby Mustang
Favorite group show design-wise probably has to be Cy-Fair, their shows are always a blast to watch and think they are a heavily underrated group in Texas

I have been participating/watching BOA since 2013, the only band I have loved every moment of their shows, every single year was Broken Arrow. Some shows I have really enjoyed though are: Marian Catholic(2013/2015) Carmel(2013/2016/2017) Avon(2014/2015/2018) Tarpon Springs(2014) Round Rock(2013/2015) The Woodlands(2013/2017)| Hebron(2013/2015/2018) Flower Mound(2014/2015/2018) Claudia Taylor Johnson(2014/2017) William Mason(2013/2014/2015) Harrison(2013/2014/2015) Blue Springs(2018) James Bowie(2013) L.D Bell(2013) Marcus(2013/2017)
The list could go on and on but here are a bit of my favorite shows.

I have individual bands that I follow more closely than others because of personal connections, but as I have posted many times before:
My favorite band is the one on the field performing for us RIGHT NOW.

I feel like I'm in this camp. I haven't been following long enough to see enough to make a list. Of course my all time favorite ones are the ones my kids have been in, and the ones I've seen in person as I've traveled with my kids bands, but there are so many out there I haven't seen and can't make a list of.

I've always particularly had a fondness for Harrison. Their musicality and lack of overproduction is appealing to me.

This may be a copout response but I make a point of seeing a large local show each year so I can remember and appreciate that *most* programs aren't like what we see in BOA but they have kids working hard and doing their best with what they have.

I agree with the Harrison comment, but I’m not sure that that is their future. I’d say Mason is my favorite band program in the country just based on what Wes has chosen for them appeals to me the most. If I had to signal out a particular show for my own personal champion it would be LD Bell 2008.

Many years with over 30 bands - ranging from bands with a total of about 15 students to powerhouses like Carmel, Avon, and Centerville.
Usually sat right in front of the press box where I often overheard part of the judging commentary for every band.

----------- I (LeanderMomma) like to do the same thing by attending the Texas Marching Classic (Oct 12 this year). Lots of great bands there that you don't always see in BOA competitions. I have my definite non-BOA favorites!! And like you, I sit up high on the 50, near the judges. I think they enjoy the lower level of band fierceness as much as we do.
Also, the Vista Ridge Marching Festival (on October 5th this year) has a ton of great bands who don't normally compete in BOA or UIL finals. In fact, there are marching festivals all over the great state of Texas that aren't BOA style competitions. Lots to see!!

I usually end up attending more local contests than boa events because of how many there are in the dfw area. When they are all within a 30 min drive and are fairly cheap, how can I not go. I just have to convince my manager to not have me work Saturdays for the next 5 weeks

My favorite non-BOA contest is Renegade Review. The scores are always so unpredictable, and it's always very fun to watch. Blue Springs went last year, LD Bell is a regular attendee, and bands like Owasso, Jenks, and Bixby always put up a fight.

I have many favorites for many reasons but i agree with the idea of seeing local groups and supporting everyone. Small competitions are a great way to be reminded about how many music students are not so lucky, just like the IPS tournament at GN. The time i'm in Indy every year i make it a point to see everyone including all the prelims groups the year i was there the whole competition (a little grueling lol). The only part i skip is actually the announcements at the end including scores. Its not the important part for me anymore

I attended all of Friday and Saturday GNs in 2016 and it was exhausting. I can’t imagine three days of it!

[/quote] There were only a few that i didnt enjoy of all of them which made it easy. And not staying for anything other than bands combined with staying at the holiday inn across the street i got some good naps in lol. That was the factor that made it doable otherwise i feel a little guilty not supporting all the students

It’s crazy convenient to Lucas Oul Stadium! But I don’t want to fork out $300 a night plus two flights and GN tickets for my daughter and me. :/ I found a great deal about a mile away, though. No naps for me unfortunately!

Ive stayed near the airport and got a rental car and that was much more affordable but i dont like early morning driving and getting up even earlier. They’ve caught on to the huge draw that GN is and raised their hotel prices accordingly.

Is San Antonio more affordable to stay in? That may be my decider. Oh and warmer weather is nice and a lot of my favorites tend to be texas bands (gotta stay on topic lol)

And the downtown river walk area is close by and it’s so beautiful. And the warmer weather definitely helps. Bottom line tho, if you have done Indy before and you have never experienced the BOA San Antonio super regionals, you just gotta go at least once! And this would be an exceptional year to do it with so many Texas bands also going to GN. They will be on fire!

In concert season in school we went to san antonio twice. It was spring contest season and it was beautiful. The theme parks are what convinced me to go for horticulture. It was long ago and i do want to go back so im leaning that way

This is more like my favorite shows than actually bands, but trying to stay close to the topic. I have been fortunate to see all of these live except for the last one, and I wish I could have seen them live. Of course, its not all inclusive, but am glad these are online to bring back memories of being at these shows. Given my screen name, I'm leaving a few faves out.... Centerville Jazz 2012 "With a Twist" - all those drum kits at the end and the energy of that show. Flower Mound 2017 "Fractured Moments" - had me with the preset music....and that soloist... CTJ 2017 "The Forest Through the Trees"- you FELT that initial horn hit...unreal and the trombone hallelujah... Homestead IN 2014 "Dance of the Wind Spirits" - back in BOA after many years, loved the music and flow of the show.. and they made finals Tarpon Springs 2014 "Man vs. Machine" - sitting down in front during finals, told my daughter we just watched the winner Broken Arrow 2018 "The United States of America" - BA has done some weird shows that were not my taste, but loved this show from beginning to end. Gotta admit that it was interesting in 2012 when the band comes out in a fog wearing gas masks and 12-13 girls in big black dresses on risers. Archbishop Alter 2014 "Assembly Required" - Go little band go. Maybe 40 members with only half being players and no drum major, but crisp, clean, fun and energetic. Lawrence Township 2018 "Living on Royal Street" - looked forward to watching them live each contest. Fresh Prince of Bel Air on the field and 2017 show with Rumpelstiltskin was downright fun. Not only could these kids play it, they sold it. Centerville Jazz 1984 - actually competed against this show, found online and forgot about them actually marching an electric guitar and base with a guy in uniform pushing the amp on the field. The starter pistol to announce when judging has started and ended wouldn't fly in today's world. Castle 2016 - saw this first at state and wow, could Sophie sing.... life is a gift Carmel 2012 "What a Tangled Web We Weave" - very interesting take on the nursery rhyme and the music, especially when I watched it from up in the nose bleed section with their visuals. The Woodlands 2017 "In the Garden of Cosmic Speculation" - when you play "How Great Thou Art" and do it so well... Brownsburg IN 2016 - New director, new style. Loved seeing this one live throughout that season. Only see this on video but can watch it over and over: Ronald Regan 2003 "Beyond Perimeters"

Those are good ones AvonDad. I wish you could have seen Flower Mound in 2016. Leonardo’s Dream was just beyond description and best enjoyed live. Same with Vista Ridge in November. Just indescribable. You missed some good stuff in San Antonio! You need to come down every year!
