I’m looking at scores from 2013 and WOW! Consistently the judges have given Harrison high MGE scores but their music performance scores are a little lower. What was so generally effective about their music that the judges loved?

What was so generally effective about their music that the judges loved? Looking at the scores in both semis and finals, the music GE judges were actually split. In semi finals, one ME judge had them 13th and the other had them 4th. In finals, one ME judge had them 7th and one had them 1st. I can't really speak for why such a large difference. I personally loved Harrison's performance in that show 'Scarlet'; based off Gone With the Wind. I would side with the music effect judges that had them with the higher scores. They simply had a powerful and emotional performance in that show; my favorite Harrison show. Watching their GN Finals performance, I could just feel that music. As for the music performance scores, perhaps there were some subtle timing/intonation issues. Also hard to tell what the judge on the field was hearing. I personally thought Harrison 2013 should have broken into the top 6. I always think of music performance as how clean the music was and music effect as to how well the music was interpreted/portrayed to the audience. In other words, could the performance make you feel what was being portrayed in the music. Now granted, if a music is off timing wise or not in tune, it is hard to have good effect. In Grand National finals, especially in recent years, all the bands play very well technically, so judges have to get really picky. That is just my two cents worth. I would love to hear other opinions.

Add into that some great music, and some solid vis design, and it was an excellent show!
