Hi friends. I have put together a viewable Google folder with many recent important threads. These will cease to exist in their intended form tomorrow, so archival starts today. You can find the folder below. drive.google.com/open?id=12iyTPogSc2AmfMT_BL_VMhYq7uWLH8ZQThe owner of a file on Google drive must share it with anyone who wishes to view it. If people want to view all of this, I suggest they message oboe12 with their email, then oboe12 can share the folder with you. Also, you need to have a Google account in order to view and download info on a Google drive file.

I changed the privacy settings again and then logged out of Google mail and was able to do it. It should be accessible by anyone with the link.

Thank you for saving all this great info. As a relative newbie in learning about marching band, I love being able to read up on the history of it.

Thanks for doing that. I can not believe they did not give more notice before shutting the MFA forums down. Maybe they were the ones behind my deleted posts after all. Get everyone all upset and then say that's it we cant handle this anymore.

Thank you for saving all this great info. As a relative newbie in learning about marching band, I love being able to read up on the history of it. You betcha! Also - some of these threads lack context to newbies & that's something I want to move forward in clearing up. For instance, my favorite of these threads is probably "TURMOIL AT LASSITER" but if someone doesn't know going in that Lassiter was a two-time national champion that quit competing (despite having arguably the best director in the business maybe ever), the thread may not make as much sense. Welcome to the world of marching band! I was a member on the BOA forums since 2013, so this is something I've been at for a while, but nothing compared to a lot of folks around here!

LeanderMomma I know very little about Mrs. Markham today. I do know, however, that Lassiter isn't even what they were five years ago, and that was a far and away difference from what they were in 2002.

There was also a huge sense of inflated egos from what I understand. Parents apparently were expecting to win every single competition they went to 10-13 years after Lassiter left BOA (Think Lakota East trying BOA for the first time, and then amp up that by 1,000,000x fold). They did win Delaware in 2013, but finishing 6th at Jacksonville rubbed a lot of them the wrong way- you take a loofah, wash yourself with it, and Lassiter parents would act like a tiger slashed them or something. They were that sensitive.
I feel bad for Mrs. Markham. I don't think she was the right choice to lead the program after Watkins (let's face it, no one ever was, but some were a bit of a better fit), but she really never got to settle in properly with all that animosity breathing down her back everytime she stepped into the band room.
Lassiter is nowhere near being the powerhouse they were then. In fact, none of the Cobb County schools (with the exception of Harrison) really aren't got the same anymore. Kinda sucks.

Lassiter came down to a local florida regional a few years ago if remember right. it was a good show but not what people would have expected 10 plus years ago. I don't want to disparage the program and i was happy to see them but it seems like Cobb county in general has shifted focus and had changes to the programs that have removed the groups from the "Elite tier" bands. When i was in school they were some of the biggest names but I personally would be happy to have been a member if i was a student in today's programs. Looking forward to having time to look over all those old threads and remember my lurking lol.

The Cobb county situation is very perplexing. Lassiter, Kennesaw Mountain, Harrison, they are all small now (Harrison never had the huge numbers Kennesaw mountain had when they first began).

After a whole heck of a lot of Googling, I was able to figure out that she is at Heritage High School in Lynchburg, VA. She was also a realtor as of last year, but that Facebook page hasn't been updated since June. Balash edit: Her Zillow profile shows she sold two houses in 2017, and her biography says this: www.zillow.com/profile/ginnyrealty1/

Wow dbalash you did some digging! I wonder if real estate really was her dream or if she just gave up on her band director dreams. :/ That's what happens when all of your bosses are out today and you have next to no work to do. She's teaching again. Based on US News and World Report, it looks like she's at a somewhat economically disadvantaged school. www.newsadvance.com/news/local/lynchburg-competition-brings-band-kids-together/article_6cb000e9-c93b-5cff-88d0-76b1386eabfe.htmlAbout 15 bands performed at this yearβs Lynchburg Classic, which is in its 44th year. The competition is for all bands in the state who βwould like to take advantage of a judged marching band competition,β said Virginia Markham, the band director for Heritage High School.--------- Ha, I AM the boss, so I spend a lot of time perusing the forums when I have a lull in my work. I am glad to see she's back to directing band again. Somehow I didn't truly think Real Estate was her dream.

Real estate have been the employment of choice for disgraced band directors. One that got the boot a few years ago is still selling houses in Indy.

I have friends from Lynchburg and the general consensus is that Heritage is the feeder for the poorer part of the area, especially compared to EC Glass.
