Not Attending: DeWitt H.S., MI (Source: Calendar)
I'm not suprised by this - with the new MCBA format this year, their scholastic home show takes away one of three weekends for qualifying contests, so they have to attend a MCBA show on the 7th.
September 23rd is currently vaguely "marching competition" - so Columbus could be an option.

RE: MCBA Rule Change
There will now be a Prelims round for each Flight the week prior to State Championships. Top 10 bands qualify for states, unless there are 11 in a flight, in which case all 11 qualify.
The way they have it set up now with 10 bands per Flight that make Finals, I don’t really get the point of instituting a prelims round. It’s essentially the same, just with an extra performance required the week before. I would’ve like to see an 8-band finals format or to go back to 4 Flights with 10 qualifying bands per flight. I will say, being eliminated via a head-to-head prelims performance is preferable to the CAS system they had in place before. Just my 2 cents though!

The "have a round of competition to eliminate one or two bands" seems to work for ISSMA, so maybe the bordering state MCBA though it was a good system to emulate.

There's going to be a semi finals this year, I think it's pretty pointless since they're only letting the top 10 in each flight move onto state finals (I've only heard people say this it might not be true) but there are only about 10-11 bands in each flight so I don't get the point to it.

Just speculation on my part, but I wonder if having qualifying and preliminary competitions is being done to encourage bands to compete a little more at these competitions, perhaps also to encourage more bands to join the circuit. Seems the last few years, many of the MCBA competitions have been sparsely attended.

Lake Orion has historically done better at MCBA competitions than at BOA. I am hoping that changes. Lake Orion was really good last year. Unless one of the big name Indiana or Ohio bands jumps in last minute, I definitely see this as a match up between Jenison and Rockford. I hope Walled Lake decides to go. That would really put the top level bands in Michigan all in one regional. I also see Walled Lake back on the rise.

I think everyone is downplaying Campbell County. They have been consistently rising the BOA ranks for the past couple years and have considerably beaten multiple bands put ahead of them so far on this ranking. They just announced their show and it look like they aren’t slow down either.

I would say I would put them around 5th then.

I’ve never heard anyone call them this but there aren’t many large Campbell county bands around the country.

Campbell has been doing fine, as a sucker for all things Ohio and Indy, they are continuing to demonstrate aspects that BOA likes. Is it enough to pull super far ahead? Obetz they scored nicely with 2nd place (though Lakota West was almost 4 full points ahead during prelims). Not discrediting them though, as they did top Miamisburg, which like Camp. County, has slowly grown more fond towards BOA judging expectations. Wouldn’t be a shocker to see them in semis a few years ahead, just not sure about this year. then again I have no idea what their show is this year so for all I know they will do nicely. Excited to see how they do either way.

Possibility: East Syracuse-Minoa H.S., NY - (4day event) Source: ESM HS Band Calendar This would be interesting to see! They've medaled in their class at the NYSFBC championships from 2014-2019 (including wins in 2015 and 2017), but they've been a little less successful post-pandemic. I'm curious how they'd do here. My guess is they'd be in the mix with the various Ohio schools towards the bottom of the rankings, though there's an outside chance they could land in the bottom half of finals.
