Very interesting. A possible 3A title for Lake Orion? I think they are in contention, with Rockford possible in 4A and Jenison a contender in 2A. If we could get Kent City to go we could also have some 1A contention. Could they still sign up? Get them on the phone!

Jenison’s community performance of “Deco” is tonight at 7pm
Very excited to see this production after 2 very strong years in 2021 and 2022.

GREAT performance by Jenison, they look to be very strong once again. Always love a good Gershwin show!

If Rockford ends up being in the 4A category this year, this could change some caption placings potentially, it also looks like Jenison is off to a strong start this year, perhaps we could see them take the crown once again this year.

After watching them Friday, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if Jenison took GE again (no bias here).

Exactly two months until this contest! It's time for very early predictions. Rather than going through the headache of trying to guess placements, I'm making the predictions tier-based and in alphabetical order.
Toledo coming in hot this year! This show is looking to be an exciting battle between Centerville, Jenison and Norwin for the “W.” That isn’t to say I don’t think Rockford has a chance to sneak into the top 3, but I’m just going on gut feeling that they will be our rock-solid (no pun intended) 4th place band here. Beyond that, PCEP is always a wild card early to mid season, and Lake Orion has been proving themselves within MCBA lately — let’s see if that carries over to BOA!
I think Campbell County will do well here and could potentially swap out with either PCEP or Lake Orion to round out the top half. Baldwinsville is a welcome surprise and is not to be underestimated given their successful appearance at the Newark show last season, comfortably hanging out with bands like Fort Mill and Green Hope. I could also see them sneak into the top half of finals here. Cicero-North and Forest Hills are both very solid programs and should likely perform twice here. Grand Blanc is new to the BOA scene, but were hanging with PCEP at MCBA State Finals last season, so I think we should see them twice as well.
Most of who will make finals is, in my opinion, pretty predictable, but that last spot or two will be up for grabs between a few groups. My money would be on Worthington Kilbourne, but we have seen Central Crossing, Kings and Moon Area do well before!
Someone else said this earlier, but if you’re going to see this show live, please give McKeesport Area the most enthusiastic round of applause. I think it’s wonderful they’re coming here, and hopefully performing and seeing all the other programs here will spark some more support amongst parents and the community.

Obviously a lot can happen in two months, but based on the last couple of years, I would say Centerville, Jenison, Rockford and Norwin all have a shot at the title. Based on last season, I would kind of give Centerville the edge. If the improvement trend I have seen in Jenison continues, it would not surprise me if they pulled off another win.
Lake Orion does not participate in BOA every year, but when they do (with the exception of their 2nd place finish at BOA Pontiac in 2012) they always seem to place lower than I would have thought. They typically do better in the MCBA system. I thought they were very good at the state championships last year.
Plymouth-Canton seems to have had some struggles coming off Covid. This band is pretty much entirely funded by their parents and band boosters. I think last year was the smallest band that PCEP has fielded since the late 70s/early 80s. I thought they were a bit rough last season and I am hoping they can bounce back from that. For me right now, they are a wild card.
Grand Blanc began competing in MCBA back in the 1980s. They were a pretty small band into the 1990s. Grand Blanc is outside of Flint and has actually been where much of the growth in the Flint area has been in the last 30 years as it is not far from the north Detroit suburbs. The school has now become one of the biggest in the state, so much so that its sports teams now compete with the larger metro Detroit teams. In an effort to keep up with some of the wealthy metro Detroit suburbs, they have also put a lot of resources into their marching band. While the socio economic conditions in Grand Blanc run the whole spectrum of economic standing, the large size of the school means there are enough parents with the means to support a fairly good size band. Grand Blanc is a good band and I hope them entering BOA is the start of a promising future for this band.
Cicero North Syracuse made headlines by winning the New York state title, their first time winning that since 1987. I am eager to see if they will continue to rise this season.

I would say Jenison’s design was a lot better then Centerville, plus Jenison beat Centerville at nationals. But we never see these groups compete early season so anything can happen. I believe it depends on who has better design and who is cleaner with all 4 of these bands being very talented programs.

But I do agree with the rest, it’s going to be very close however you slice it.

I was just saying if we were basing off last season, I agree one year doesn’t define abilities, I think this is gonna be a great regional to watch! The top competition is tight this year! I can’t wait to watch these bands fight it out! Competitions where you don’t know what’s going to happen are always the fun ones.

Centerville has historically been a strong early season competitor which factored into my decision (I guess I did not make that clear). Of course it very well could come down to who has a pretty good night in Finals and who does not have as good a show as they had hoped. I also guess there is still time for a band like Brownsburg or William Mason to decide to come up to Toledo, then the whole discussion of who will win becomes moot.

Actually, Jenison had a higher GE score so in a tie break it would have been Jenison who finished higher. Thanks for keeping me honest. My eyesight ain't what it used to be. LOL

And with Centerville being clean early season too. Or I could be completely wrong and there could be a gap but I see it being very very close for top 2.

Anyone see any videos/live performances of these bands yet? I have a video of Jenison, but it has been requested to not be shared Sorry. I promise you are in for a treat. I think they are bigger than they were last year (around 180).

Campbell preformed at a football game tonight. Here is the video. Sorry about the quality. They know their ballad they just don’t have it performance ready, so this is just the opener.

Did anyone attend any of the attending bands football games? If so any reports? Jenison will have a competition I believe the weekend before Toledo, Rockford will be there too (in exhibition). That will give us a good look at both of them.
