What's the purpose of them calling this a Championship?

What's the purpose of them calling this a Championship? It’s interesting they used that wording, but I think it’s just a matter of syntax. Seems like a regular regional.

Not really even that close to atlanta I think they mean that many Georgia bands (especially from the Atlanta metro area) could be here.

Like I said, it’s probably just a matter of odd phrasing from whoever typed it up. It doesn’t read as a conscious decision to include the word “Championship,” at least not to me.

Thanks for elaborating with the best of your knowledge

Not really even that close to atlanta I think they mean that many Georgia bands (especially from the Atlanta metro area) could be here. That's the essence. The Super Regional used to be a general hub for the Southeast, so I envision the Troy regional to be similar, especially given how late it is in the season. I'd be surprised if the Cobb County bands don't show up. There's nothing of big importance this late in the season that would hold any of them back. I know there's some deep, deep ties between the people at Troy and BOA, so I'm pretty the Troy people are working their connections to get bands to show up (and trust me, they know a lot of people). It's one thing to compare Troy to St. George and SA, but I'm expecting a fairly sizable, solid turnout. There's some speculation I heard that this regional is making a play for the Florida panhandle bands. The biggest names I've heard were Tate and Pace. Florida has a pretty healthy scene north of Tampa/Orlando, and there's been a lot of grumblings about FMBC as a whole.

Not really even that close to atlanta I think they mean that many Georgia bands (especially from the Atlanta metro area) could be here. This said, the White Columns Invitational is this same weekend and usually pulls some good groups in. Might be more worth it for some to perform there than drive 3+ hours to this.

What's the purpose of them calling this a Championship? The generic terminology for all BOA marching events is "Bands of America Championships" as you can see at the top of the MFA schedule page. Check out the volunteer shirts at an event or three. They usually say "Regional Championships" or "Super Regional Championships" as well as the expected "Grand National Championships."

That’s correct, but Wando had a pattern of skipping state on a Grand National years (14, 16, & 18) prior to the pandemic. Since they’ve just won both years in a row I think they would feel comfortable skipping in 23’ but that is completely a guess. Troy AL is about an hour and a half longer than going to BOA Orlando so I’d assume they’d do that or Johnson City but ya never know. Of all of the high profile bands in our little world, Wando is one the most geographically challenged in terms of getting to do multiple BOA events in a season - it tends to just be difficult with great distances separating them from shows for the most part.

I was about to comment that they must’ve really enjoyed how close Gaffney was in 2018… then I put it in Google maps and realized that Gaffney is 3 and a half hours away. At least they can enjoy the beach!

Might be more worth it for some to perform there than drive 3+ hours to this. Anyone that has been to the WCI will agree this is not going to compare to the BOA experience. But it will be interesting to see who goes to Troy. I expect there will be plenty of Cobb & Forsyth county bands going... as well as some north fulton co / qwinnett county bands.
