Maryland State Championships History

Maryland Marching Band Association or MMBA first opened its door in 2019 to providing a true Maryland State Championships that was creating by many Maryland band directors. As USBands would houses a Maryland State but would intertwine with USBands Virginia State together.

Presenting Maryland first ever State Championships

Provided by Tournament of Bands this was in fact the first State Championships test run for the TOB circuit for any state in 1986. Over time this competition fell off, and ultimately ended after 2003 once USSBA created some competition which grew in popularity, and made their own Maryland State Championships.

Quite fascinating to see to Maryland Bands in Group IV with more than 100 members as right now they're lucky to get more than 70 members.

You'll see the rise of Westminster locally during the late 1980s-90s as there were pretty big gap between them and second place and Urbana HS since opening in 1995 the place well in 98-99
