Firstly, if this topic isn’t appropriate and needs to be removed that’s fine, no hurt feelings.
I’ve been to Indy many times as a student and a couple times as a spectator. Only once since I turned 21. This time I’m taking my partner who isn’t exactly in the band world. I want to make sure he has a good time outside the band world cause I’m sure that’ll be… a lot for him to sit through. Are there any popular places to grab an “adult beverage?” I know a lot of parents grab drinks in hotel lobbies after hours. And what about just fun things to do in general??

Downtown Indy has a great nightlife! And it’s super easy to get around. The city is walkable and there are plenty of scooters and city-share e-bikes to use.

While you get your band geek fix, there are plenty of sights to see without leaving the downtown area.
White River State Park, NCAA Hall of Champions, Eiteljorg Museum, Indiana Historical Society, Indiana State Museum, Monument Circle, Indianapolis Zoo...
Plenty of other museums an easy Uber away. Surely some locals can chime in - that's just what I know as a visitor to Indy.

Thanks for the replies! I’m honestly not sure how much time we’ll have to be honest. Grand Nationals goes so quickly lol.

All of the above are fantastic choices, although they tend to be the go-to tourist favorites.
I really recommend to all that are visiting to check out Mass Ave, specifically the Bottleworks District near 10th St. Honestly, that whole area gets a big thumbs-up in my book because while the food choices in The Garage food hall are a tad too much for the quality, there's so much in that area to pass time. Movie theatre, duckpin bowling, and boutique shopping in addition to dining- the Bottleworks Hotel is a spectacle to check out to, having that 4-star hotel feel while retaining all that incredible former Coca-Cola bottle factory architecture.
If you want to explore a bit further up on Mass Ave, there's an entire stretch of stores and breweries going northwest. Windsor Park, the neighborhood adjacent to said stretch, has Kan-Kan (art cinema and top-notch restaurant), Beholder, Amelia's Coffee Cafè, North Mass Boulder (climbing gym), and.... Sidedoor Bagel (it's expensive stuff, but bagels are 100% the cost. Trust me, I love me bagels.)!
A warning, however, it is a bit of a walk from LOS in the cold weather (2 miles or so along the Cultural Trail). Nothing a short Uber ride can't solve, though.

You should also go to Broadripple! My mom took me duckpin bowling for my birthday in March. Super fun! Be sure to go to The Garage too!! Super yummy food!

Broad Ripple is a fantastic choice if you'd like to spend time away from downtown, but it is quite a ways north. As in, much further than Mass Ave. Broad Rip does have the college-esque scene, though, given the close proximity to Butler. Tons of bars and boutiques along the Monon Trail. Not to mention, The Vogue! They'll have concerts on Thursday and Friday, so you'll have an excuse to visit if you like Calcium or Dirty Honey. Fishbone is on Saturday during GN Finals which.... Uggggh I'd very much like to go!

Fountain Square is off to the southeast of downtown, a little farther from the heart of downtown than Mass Ave (but a little closer to LOS). Virginia Street and Shelby Street is sort of the nexus but it goes a few blocks in about five different directions. It’s probably a little bit less highbrow but just as much fun as Mass Ave; there isn’t something as large and centralized as the bottleworks but lots of bars, boutiques, interesting food options, yet another duckpin bowling place, and surely you could find some live music, sans marching, on a Friday or Saturday night.

Lol why didn't you just text me. We usually hit up Empire Street or Tavern on South for a quick drink in between bands, then after the contest ends, we work our way through Slippery Noodle, Brothers, and Kilroys before heading over to Pearl Street Pizza because it's open the latest (until 3 a.m.)

I appreciate all the responses! I’ll make a tentative list of places I’d like to visit in what little time we have!

I guess I should have messaged you

I don’t know who owns that place but I feel like I put their kid through college given how many beers I drank there in the 2010’s. It’d be filled with band dorks between prelims or semis, and finals.
