What a show, Murray!!!! Hard to believe there's less than 600 kids 9-12 in the school. They're easily marching what, a quarter of their high school?? And seemingly with mature buy-in from everyone. The race for top 30 is thick, so who knows if they'll get in on score, but they sure laid the gauntlet for any Panel 2 Semis-hopeful group. Can't wait to see where Bourbon & Marian line up with that, but what a performance. Tight, mature show design and clear buy-in from each performer. I'm all on board!

Directors, PLEASE teach your students not to walk through the seating area during performances! Not what I would’ve expected from students in a finalist group

That would scale up to Carmel marching 1,246 kids. I'm sure they're marching some middle school kids too, as all small schools do - but I can't imagine it's that many, mostly because the group performs in such a sophisticated, adult way. Even if they are marching a number of 7th & 8th graders, the entire group performs like 136 juniors & seniors! So cool that they're able to get that level of participation.

Ben Davis's ballad was super meaty! Tons of exposure, asking a lot of the winds. Some intonation issues but they handled it well. Nice to see Ben Davis regaining their stride! I'm glad they're back at GN.

Ben Davis! Wow. Such a leap from last year in terms of musical quality. In my time, a state finalist, regular semi finalist and sometimes GN finalist. I think your program is on the right direction.

Ben Davis! Wow. Such a leap from last year in terms of musical quality. In my time, a state finalist, regular semi finalist and sometimes GN finalist. I think your program is on the right direction. That's how I knew them as well! The 2010s weren't great to the program; a number of director changes and obviously changing demographics in terms of the socioeconomic classes that make up Wayne Township. Ben Davis had really regained their footing in 2019, finally making GN Semis again, and their winter guard was consistently at the top of Open Class nationally. Covid decimated the program. This seems to be the first year since then where they remained competitive at invitationals and held their own at ISSMA Semi-State. Glad to see them back at GN! I would imagine they'll land in the 75-76 point range; totally respectable.

That first Psychopomp hit from Murray had some super dense wind writing! I'm loving this so far. Hearing a high school band using Thank you Scientist as source music might be my highlight of the weekend.

Garrard County with Orawa!
Lovely piece. Had a chance to use it in indoor season with Danville nearly a decade ago.

philodemus, or any of our other resident KY experts - wasn't Garrard County a rising small band star maybe a decade ago? Did that trajectory not continue? I seem to remember them being the new breakout "it" band, hanging on top of most groups other than Bourbon & Adair at the time...unless I am misremembering. They were good just now, but I suppose I was expecting more, maybe a challenge for an A rep spot. Hard to keep the small school KY bands straight!

This is a really, really nice offering OFT brought to GN this year. Great design that is well-matched with the group. I am really enjoying this.

O'Fallon has the show to make finals. Just not quite sure the cleanliness is there.
