Carmel guard knows how to close a show! Don't know about their medal chances with that show though with all the Texas going on but it's a great show.

The students gave their best, but the design isn’t it for me. As always the judges will see something in it that I don’t.

Well, I'm still not too keen on the Queen Symphony, but they did a lot with it, and that was very impressive.

Is that Dan Potter? Is he going to ask the winner later if their victory only happened because Ronald Reagan isn't here? . . . . . . . . . . . . (Kidding! I know he apologized to the Spartans, and I'm sure he meant it.)

Carmel was very clean and performed the show incredibly well. Like some of the others here, the design just isn't for me, but the students definitely made the most of their performance. My own personal predictions now that everyone has gone:
1. Vandegrift 2. Avon 3. Hebron 4. Leander 5. Carmel 6. Claudia Taylor Johnson 7. The Woodlands 8. William Mason 9. Homestead 10. Ayala 11. Round Rock 12. Union
Music - Hebron/Vandegrift Visual - Avon GE - Vandegrift
I see a ~3.2 point gap between 1-6.

Carmel, this show has grown and grown on me every viewing this weekend and is becoming one of my fav. They absolutely nailed it tonight and are in serious contention for the music or visual captions. They are so good at maximizing every aspect of their shows. The have the best dynamic contrast on any band tonight. My one beef with Texas bands is they seem to play 3 volumes; loud, louder and loudest. They lack the amazing moments Carmel generates with their play between soft and loud. Way to end the evening Carmel!

So those of you have been around for a while what are your predictions? My kiddo thinks LHS is not going to place well. But she thinks Avon, Vandy and Hebron will place well.

They should make a category for color guard and percussion because there are a lot of amazing guards that are simply not getting rewarded for their hard work. Same with percussion. This would also make bands want to improve their guards giving us more interesting shows. Same goes for percussion.

1 Vandegrift (Music, GE) 2 Avon (Visual, but barely over Vandy) 3 Leander 4 Hebron 5 Carmel 6 Claudia Taylor Johnson 7 William Mason 8 The Woodlands 9 Round Rock 10 Homestead 11 Union 12 Ayala

I have liked Carmel more every time I saw them this year. I am hoping for something other than a four-peat though.

It feels strange seeing Marian Catholic in exhibition, the AA champion has not been in exhibition for a while at least not since Marian was AAA for a few years.

I would compared this Carmel show to be much like their show in 2016, just not as GE heavy.

Marian makes difficult music engaging.
Also I like the drill move where various members pop out of the drill and stumble back into it in another location, only to dislodge the performer who was there, who goes on to repeat the cycle. Like an infection.

Marian Catholic, they are one of my favorite all time bands and have done so much for the activity. I admire how they never shy away from doing difficult shows no matter how it will effect their placements. They always show up with some of the best designed shows. Their 2000 show is one of my top 5 shows of all time, and this is a wonderful revisit/homage. Find it on YouTube if you haven’t seen it.

This would also make bands want to improve their guards giving us more interesting shows. Same goes for percussion. What vandy might loose in that situation with guard they’d definitely gain back in percussion. BOA does this (not having captions like that) to boost creativity in the productions
