Based on current Rumored / Confirmed list:
10 finalists: Avon Blue Springs Broken Arrow Carmel Ronald Reagan Tarpon Springs Vista Ridge Cedar Ridge Jenks Wando
Bubble bands for last 2 spots: American Fork Camdenton Castle Fishers Franklin Homestead* Lawrence Township Marian Catholic O’Fallon Township* Rosemount William Mason* Dobyns-Bennett* Kennesaw Mountain Lafayette Lincoln Way Community* Mustang Owasso Pearland Vista Murrieta
*indicates favorable for last two spots
This is gonna be a good one. There will be past grand nats finalists that won’t get a “regular” 3rd performance next November. I’ve listed 21 past grand nats finalists, and only 12 will make it. We are in for a wild ride this year.

I love Mason, they are truly my “favorite” band. I do feel like it will be hard for ANYONE to make finals. After their 2017 stunt, I can’t put them in the locks. Plus, I limited myself to 10, so there wasn’t a lot of room.

Since 2017, they’ve just been improving more and more. And they were the very first band on in finals this year against arguably the best finalist pool ever and placed 7th. They’re not in medal contention like they were before the director shenanigans, but I think they’re certainly getting back to that place.

So many contenders to take the eagle in 2020.
Can Vista Ridge pull a Vandegrift and win on their first trip?
Can Ronald Reagan (who have finished as high as 2nd place twice) finally get the win?
Does Carmel make it win number 6?
After being 2nd or 3rd every year since their last win in 2010, does Avon finally get win number 4?
Will this be another Broken Arrow year?
Can Tarpon win a second title?
Does a dark horse take the title; maybe Blue Springs or William Mason?
Feel free to discuss, but these are mostly rhetorical questions.

GE Beasts: Carmel Ronald Reagan Broken Arrow Music Beasts: Blue Springs William Mason Carmel Broken Arrow Vista Ridge Tarpon Springs Visual Beasts: Avon Ronald Reagan Carmel In my opinion, Carmel is the only band that I see a possible sweep, but if Reagan hops on the music train they could sweep. You don’t have to sweep to win though

I really need to be there for this one. I am anxious to see how two of the current best bands in Texas do against not only Avon and Carmel, but BA and Tarpon Springs as well. Maybe I can fly up Friday evening! I have wanted to see Broken Arrow live for so very long. And I need to support my fellow LISD Ranger Band, right?!

It’s been a minute since I’ve checked this forum, so I’m excited to see all the cool stuff that’s been discussed! Just earlier this day I was thinking about how I’d like to see Castle make finals this year.
As much as I love Jenks, I wouldn’t consider them a lock, especially with the skill level of the bands attending. They’re behind Union in skill level, who barely snuck into finals this past season, as well as only beating Camdenton for the BAI title by a fraction of a point. I know that more local competitions such as invitationals and state comps (barring UIL) are not very comparable to the larger BOA events, but it at least provides some numbers. I’d say they are capable of phenomenal production quality such as in Carman, but a show the level of this past season wouldn’t make it in.
Very neat that Camdenton could be considered a bubble band by some! I know I talk about them a lot, but an AA band from Missouri that broke out into the big leagues within a couple of years is significant. It’s inspiring to a lot of smaller bands to watch an underdog from a rural area compete with the best of the best. The competitive sphere in Missouri has exploded in the last few years and I’m wondering if it could become a mini Indiana in the 20s.
No matter what, we certainly have a season for the books this year!

I believe they are exceptional in terms of connecting with the audience. Does that make up for any inconsistencies in cleanliness and musicality? Not necessarily... but their shows are always very memorable and can turn the cheesiest concept into something beautiful. I was fortunate to be able to make the trip to OBA 6A champs this year, and the amount of talent in Oklahoma is wonderful. There is energy in all the performers, not just those from the big names. If anyone gets the chance to check out OBA or any state competition, go for it. Seeing bands that choose not to attend BOA who have an equal love for the marching arts is eye opening.

After changing jobs and a lot of life turmoil this past year, I was unable to attend for the first time since 2010. This year looks to be a year i don't want to miss. I for one am pulling for Reagan to win since in my opinion they are one of the best groups to have not won the eagle.

It is certainly worth adding that During BAI Jenks gapped Camdenton significantly in prelims but in finals was the only group who had to perform in the Rain. Last year Jenks was only going to St Louis and so as a result put a less significant show out as to not have to put a whole lot of money into it last year and save it for another Grand National Finals run.

If it's the Lafayette that I think you're talking about, it'll be cool to see both Lafayette H.S., KY & Lafayette H.S., LA. It's been a while since we've seen Lafayette (LA) at a BOA event. Also I have another rumored band. It seems that Union (OK) has a Grand Nationals Send-Off for 2020 listed on their website so it seems like they may be attending. However nothing is officially confirmed.
