I think y’all just answered the question I had last week when I was wondering why the Texas Color Guard Circuit has SO MANY classes. Sounds like they are needed!

I agree with you because scholastic A has gotten so big that now at just a regional competition (wgi Indy) this year they’re doing SA prelims are a whole separate school while doing prelims, semis, and finals while SO and SW just do prelims and finals at the main high school. I’m not sure how it would work with adding a class between SA and SO seeing that the average for wgi and local circuits is A, Open, and World so I don’t know how they would do that with the factor of local circuits but I agree that something has to be changed for SA because it is jam packed. They’re having to do the same thing at WGI Austin this season for the first time ever. Scholastic A prelims will be at an entirely different location. For just a regional competition!

Hello! Long time reader first time posting I agree with the A class its huge! And there also seems to be a large discrepancy of talent within the group itself. I think it would be beneficial if they took the whole class structure and rethought each group as a whole. I was at New Pal this weekend in Indy. I loved Ben Davis show this year!once they get their costumes and clean they will be even better, but they still captured 1st. They are planning to move up to World next year. I was also very impressed with center groves show too. They will definitely be one to watch!

I was able to check out some shows over the weekend at the MEPA Northmont show. Not a huge lineup but got to catch first glimpses of worlds class programs Bellbrook, Miamisburg, and Juxtaposition.
Bellbrook is very small this year with 12 girls on the floor. It’s tough to really get a world class caliber show out there with that small of a group...but they are doing a great job of performing their program and working with what they got, I applaud them for that. Some nice weapon moments and strong dance technique. It’s too early to really tell where this show is going this year as they seem to have a lot to add so I’ll have to wait probably until Indy or even Mid East champs to really have a good read and see.
Miamisburg blew me away once again. Seeing them at BOA semis, I had a good feeling about the winter. Their program this year Queens “You Take My Breathe Away” does not disappoint. Their weapon book is insane with their signature double Sabre work taking center stage! I cannot wait to see this one develop as well and really think they can challenge for a medal at Championships if they keep it going.
Juxta was another fantastic program. They are doing a Little red riding hood themed program with giant curtain props reminiscent or Fenix Independent from a few years ago. Tossing flags over the props and using it to set the stage really help elevate some neat moments. It’s always hard for me to tell with independent world what’s going to be competitive or not at the start of a season but hoping to see them in finalists conversation before it’s said and done, we shall see.
Excited to watch some more shows in a few weeks at WGI Indy . Looking forward to a great season!

Oh I have been a Miamisburg guard fan since I first fell in love with the activity! I can't wait to see this stuff live next season at Worlds!! And wow, Navy AND Marine???!!!! Combat medic? WHAT?!!!

Yeah, Navy MEDIC attached to Marines Desert Storm/Iraq....88-04.....
Yes been following the BOA and WGI activity (on&off) since 1982 I guess, freshman year....lots of memories....yes it was great to see in person the days of Northrup, Norwin, Chesterton, Rockymount, of course the start up winning streak of Marion Catholic...etc. And Back in the days of Old WGI with the likes of Miller's Blackhawks, City Slickers from Indy, State Street Review, Erte, Quasar, Skylarks, and Cavaliers! Anyway, it's always fun to come back and see the talent of the bands and guards and the growth to which both activities have grown into. It truly amazes me each and every year. The caliber of talent with the Indiana bands and Texas bands is just super. I was delighted to see Miamisburg make semis this year and hope that this could push them to strive to even do better next year... Like I said, Good Luck To All the Participants this 2020 season!

Indy Regional has been multiple sites for 4 or 5 years. Greenfield-Central hosted Scholastic A until this year and did a great job. Logistics were easy when both hosts were on the east side of Indy and about 20 minutes apart. Now the sites are 45 minutes across Indianapolis from each other and Avon HS isn't close to the highway.

I really enjoyed it Leandermomma!! As for WGI indy, I think it might possibly a case where it's just grown so much. The last few years I went it was very crowded even outside of the gym and the concessions always ran out of food. Pretzels were in hot demand! Avon probably is a bit larger. It will be interesting to see how it goes. Also Avon high school is about 8 miles from hwy 70 and 13 miles from 465. I dont think that's too bad. Either way it should be an exciting finals with all the competition.

So you Indy people should be able to handle it alright. Wish I could go!!!

Yes warren central was wayyy over crowded, performers squeezing into the bleachers, sitting on the ground, cramming into doorways, concessions ran out, and while the basketball hoops went up they were still in the way and gave me a heart attack for the performers each time especially Lance’s (Avon) tosses last year on the table which was by one of them. I’m excited to see how it’ll play out at Avon and I’m just excited to see all the groups next weekend. I really enjoyed it Leandermomma!! It looks like Claudia Taylor Johnson reclassified to Open class in TCGC. It hasn't been reflected on the WGI site yet, but I'd presume they will no longer be competing in Scholastic World class at WGI events, either.

For what it's worth, they had a much better run at TCGC Georgetown than at WGI last week.

I hope they can stay in Open Class. I hate to see them fall TOO far. I think we will see Dripping Springs dropping back down soon as well. Such a dramatic difference from last year’s and their incredible Neverland show. Such a shame they lost their amazing guard staff.

Did they have a bunch of staff turnover? Is Duffy still there? Edit: Holy hell did they have a staff turnover. Did my research. But, it looks like they've got some good names in there! And David Duffy appears to have moved on to the new Buda Johnson, who of course made a splash in their first competitive season at BOA Austin. If he can bring that magic he brought to West Johnston's marching band in the early 2010s and Hendrickson's band in the late 2010s, and then Dripping Springs, they will be set up for a ton of success!

Yes I’m very curious if the upcoming Austin Regional will have a revised schedule soon showing the change or if they plan to keep CTJ in World Class for now.

Yeah they had quite the staff exodus ( ). I didn’t know the new Johnson HS had benefited from that, though. Man that explains A LOT! I’ve been blown away by this new band and guard this year. They hit the ground running last summer, and they aren’t looking to slow down anytime soon! How do you start a new school AND a new band so successfully, so quickly?!

Starting a new school and band so successfully and so quickly... isn't that what Windermere's done? It looks like they have a decently sized winter guard, both JV and Varsity.

One thing I noticed... Marian Catholic and Brownsburg missed finals?! Are they not as prominent on the WGI scene as they are on the BOA scene?
