Confirmed Participants (4): Bassett H.S., VA Dobyns-Bennett H.S., TN Green Hope H.S., NC James Madison H.S., VA Out of curiosity, where did you get the information that these bands would be attending? I cannot find anywhere on DB, Bassett, or Madison's website/calendar that they will be attending this competition.

Will make it to this since it’s down the road! Will be my first BOA outside of Texas, save for GN.

It seems like this regional will be an easy pick up for Dobyns-Bennett, barring any surprise appearances from bands such as Wando...

Because of the location and date of this show I have a feeling this could be a great opportunity for both BOA newcomers and regulars to make finals at a regional when they normally may be on the outside looking in.

This certainly is a curious move for boa. It’s not bad but I’d much rather wake forest return instead. Never the less I’m excited to see who attends. Byrnes could attend if they wanted to.

I have friends that went to Dominion. I know little about their band program but it's Loudoun so they have money and numbers. Interested to see what they bring!

At the VMBC State Championships show from last season, Dominion placed 4th in Group 3 (Behind Bassett, TJHSST, South County) and 12th in Finals. Not sure how they will do at this show still, as we don't have the full lineup.

There is definitely potential.

It will be exciting to see how James Madison and the other Northern Virginia bands finally stack up against the Carolina bands. Madison has proven to be on par with Green Hope recently, so it'll definitely be exciting

Shall I? As a resident member of the Virginia contingent of this forum I'll take a swing at this.
First off, just so everyone is clear - Dobyns-Bennett will absolutely run away with this title. After them though it will get REALLY close. The following bands, which could honestly go any which way based on their recent history are:
Bassett H.S., VA Boiling Springs H.S., SC Cary Senior H.S., NC Cleveland H.S., NC Green Hope H.S., NC Hickory H.S., VA James Madison H.S., VA Panther Creek H.S., NC Rock Ridge H.S., VA Seminole H.S., FL
In case you were counting, that's ten bands in addition to the one we all know is going to win. So one of these eleven is going to get left out.
I don't know which bands are in A but I'd love to see Grayson County H.S., VA sign up for this show to sweep A. If not them, Magna Vista H.S., VA would also be a good candidate. AA has Bassett and Rock Ridge which should be interesting. AAA will most definitely go to Dobyns-Bennett with Hickory behind. AAAA will be fascinating between Madison and the three bands from Cary. REALLY looking foward to that matchup!
If I had to guess, I'd say Bassett & the Cary bands are best poised to medal, simply because they've had longer success in BOA. Bassett did lose at the local circuit state championship last year to Madison by .06, if I'm not mistaken, so I would say I'm not ultimately that concerned about their ability to medal. What does concern me is that Bassett's GN years this decade, with the exception of 2016, have not been good regional years, with Bassett missing regional finals when making semifinals (with Cary Senior nearly doing the same thing that same year). That said, James Madison and HICKORY could easily take second. After all, even though Bassett has made finals at Atlanta a gazillion years ago, Hickory is the only Virginia band to make finals at a Super Regional (Indy 2011). We'll see what happens.
Say what you want, I think this regional is much stronger than Johnson City.

It's going to be an interesting year for the Cary, NC bands. First, there is another high school opening next year in Cary, called Green Level (they really need to be more creating in naming) with only Freshmen and Sophomores, drawing students from Panther Creek and Green Hope. Second, the Green Hope band director is moving to the new Green Level school. That means Green Hope doesn't have a band director right now. Third, the Cary Senior HS band director resigned. Only Panther Creek will have consistent leadership for this upcoming season, but is losing the most students to the new school. Lots of changes going on. I'm hopeful that in a year or two there could be 4 competitive bands from Cary NC in the BOA circuit!

Also, Matt Minnick out? That's WILD.

Madison is a AAA school in the BOA circuit I believe. Should be in contention for the 2nd place AAA spot at this regional.
For me personally, I see Dobyns-Bennett as the obvious front runner and then everyone else duking it out for the rest of the spots. I'm going to give Madison and Bassett the edge for 2nd/3rd here because of the changes in staffing/students at the Cary schools. Both those schools have also beaten Hickory consistently over the past several years.
To me, Cleveland is the wildcard at this regional. They placed 4th at BOA Mid-Atlantic in 2016, 14th at Winston Salem in 2017 (beating Bassett), and 8th at BOA Orlando in 2018. Seminole also placed 9th at BOA Orlando last season.

They have been very close lipped about this. I have heard through channels it has nothing to do with the sort of inappropriate behavior currently coming up rampantly in band and dci but was a more white collarish issue. Note....green level and green hope are old communities in Cary. There is a law against naming schools after people so they've pretty much gone with communities. Panther Creek and apex friendship are the same

Cleveland keeps going one step up one step back in marching but they are so close to really taking the next step. They have clearly eclipsed cape fear in my mind, are the Cary bands next?

Oh wow that’s quite a dramatic turn for Cary! I hope PC and Green Hope can muster up a good season too. Lots of change going on in the south this year!
