This is absolutely not official at all, but Vandegrift had a meeting with students and parents earlier this week and all but said they will not be going to any competitions this year. It's too hard to maintain social distance while travelling with 400 kids. It's also pretty impossible to put together the caliber of show Vandegrift is known for and capable of when they can't even practice until at least September. The county health department recently announced that schools can not do any in-person instruction until Sept. 8th and also said that extracurricular sports and activities can not take place until campuses open for in-person learning. So no band until at least then. There's another meeting on Monday, and I fully expect this will be the decision that's announced. As disappointing as it is (we had a GREAT show planned for this year), I think it's the right decision. Kids and staff need to stay safe and healthy, and there's no way they could put together a competition-level show and performance in such a short time. I think there's a good chance that our district extend the restriction and suspend all activities well into band season. Disappointing for sure. Leander had a great show planned as well. A non-state, non-GN show. I was very much looking forward to this season. I know everyone was. :/

I feel really bad for the bands that were scheduled to go to Grand Nats this year, especially Reagan. I know Grand Nats has not officially been cancelled, but I'm pretty sure it will be. Even if it's not, it will be a small competition. with a lot of the big names not there, and probably no audience. Reagan was amazing last year, and fully expected them to win Nationals this year. They're also just a really great group of kids and organization. When we lost BoA San Antonio to them last year, I asked my daughter is she was disappointed, and she said absolutely not. She said they were really good and deserved it. She also said everyone from Reagan was really nice, so she was glad they won.

What does rehearsal look like if you're not going to any competitions? Or just no marching band at all? Vandegrift is out. Also not going to UIL. We're not doing any competitions this year.
