Decatur Central absolutely nailed their show and was another of my favorites. I don't know if you meant world class as in the common usage or World Class as in designed to SW sheets, but if you meant the latter, I couldn't agree more! Ben Davis was astonishingly good today. After their complex & intricate "Dada" program last year, I thought they might self-promote up to SW for the 2020 season a la James Bowie a few years ago, as I really felt that their skill sets & design would be more at home on SW sheets than SO sheets. I thought the same thing after seeing them today --- they're ready for the jump up!! I have no idea what the program's goals are, though, and they're almost certain to net a medalist finish in SO at the end of this season; a stamp of success that would be much needed for Ben Davis, and one I would be thrilled to see them achieve. I'm very curious to see how far ahead of the pack they were today, most notably in relation to the other consistent SO Finalist in recent years, Milford, who was also quite solid today.

Wow, it looks like a silk came untaped in the air at the very end of Bellbrook’s performance. I’ve seen that in run-throughs but never in an actual show!

Wow. Center Grove was phenomenal. The level of detail that goes into these World Class designs is crazy! Bellbrook and Norwin had me fully enthralled with all of the props and theming. Norwin’s show reminded me very much of the style that Mechanicsburg had a few years ago.

I love Carmel’s show, but I think Avon will be untouchable this year. It will be “A Very Good Year” indeed.

Avon, Center Grove, and Miamisburg were fantastic! Avon will be untouchable for sure this year, I have no doubt. Norwin very clearly has Christy Templin from Mechanicaburg on their team. Love the direction this program has taken over the past few years. Carmel was a solid performance as well. So far really excited for World Class 2020!

Fishers has made such a good transition into World Class. I would’ve never guessed it was their first year!

( forgive me it's been a long day at Avon today but it was so wonderful to watch it all in person!)

Ben Davis does go to dayton regularly. It will not surprise me in the least if they medal this year and move up to SW. also SO scores tonight were crazy! Good for Decatur central! I’m honestly a bit surprised to see Onyx come out on top in world class. They had a messy run and I thought that Inspire was definitively more solid. Also, I will say that I’m a bit disappointed by both these shows. I like Onyx more when they are bold and daring, and Inspire’s show just isn’t groundbreaking in any way. Don’t get me wrong, it was great! But I guess I was expecting something more innovative from the Boston Crusaders guard staff.

Well nothing really surprises me anymore after all these years...1982-present, lol yes I'm old...it's all come and gone in my book, nothing new under the sun....with that said, thought Carmel was, well yawn....great equipment work as always tho....I got a kick out of Northview, Avon made me smile, I missed Centergrove and Miamisburg...got home too late to tune into Flo. The rest were ok. I liked Onyx, but I liked the group from KY. better...I noticed James Logan scored a low 70's today and Tarpon Springs a couple weeks ago scored like a 68 something and Trumball scored a 78 something today.

Does anyone know how WGI comes up with the number of guards that make it into Finals? Watching the Indy Regional they only have 8 SA guards but 11 SO and 10 SW guards.

I agree I feel a lot of the shows this year are slow songs with similar styles. I loved some of the unique shows even if they didnt have the same skill just for variety. I forget which group it was but their show was "through the eyes of Picasso " and it was very entertaining. I also enjoyed shenendehowa with the hurricane and actual flag feature IN water! I missed Onyx but I've always loved their quirky style...sounds like I might be disappointed? Cant wait to see more tomorrow:)

Im watching finals now....great flow with Middletown, using flags only...surprisingly no weapons. I guess I would like to clarify, that obviously despite skill set...I'm to the point of how a show moves me...I mean I look at equipment but to me, now, you can have difficult equipment and the show just not move me in anyway...Great job Franklin Central! I've always wanted to put a show together with 30 in a guard utilizing flags, rifles, and sabres...and start from the beginning, the 70's style military, marching, uniform, music, etc utilizing a small group within the guard and work forward in a cohesive way...small groups, 80's, 90's, 2000's, 2010's, to present. Using the different style drills, uniform styles, music, etc....I don't know? I think it would be fun to design and play around...maybe bring back some of fan 15 shows throughout one big show in like snipets or vignettes....

I thought Zionsville Community had a lovely show! Especially liked their music. (Same as Leander’s Home winter guard show in 2019). 🤗

Just tuning in today after missing all of yesterday. Homestead looks to have improved quite a bit from last year. It's a shame they never make it to Dayton.

Oh wow! Absolutely LOVED Centerville’s Picasso show! Love that they went with an all-Nyman soundtrack. That show definitely has potential, probably the most I've seen out of a recent Centerville show.

Milford was lovely and EXTREMELY talented, but it wasn't my favorite of their recent offerings. This is, however, without a doubt the most talented version of this guard since they've made the jump to Scholastic Open. I just attribute it to my taste in shows, often preferring the more exciting/dramatic/avant-garde over the more subtle shows performing to ballads.
One big takeaway for me is their use of space. They were a pretty small guard with only 13 on the floor, but you wouldn't have guessed it unless you counted based on their staging. It was very nicely done.

Wait, Decatur Central? As in the same Decatur Central that finished 45/51 guards last year? Seriously? I remember watching their show last year and this was a complete transformation in just one year's time. I can't believe it. That show is an easy finalist this year. If they develop the rifle work a bit more (currently not much variety - lots and lots of tosses but not much else), I could see that pushing top half of finals.
Now for one of my favorite guards of the past decade. This will be my first viewing of Ben Davis this year.

I thought Decatur & Ben Davis both had weaker runs than their Prelims performances, but I'm really looking forward to seeing both shows develop throughout the season! I still maintain Ben Davis' design last year & this year would be super at home on SW sheets; the complexity of the writing & multiple demands put on the performers is such a treat to watch!! Decatur is the opposite; a straightforward show that they are cleaning exceptionally well. Decatur's sabre training in particular was quite striking in the first third of their show. Really terrific writing for DC in general; it reminds me of Dripping Springs last year in that it seems to be perfectly written for that group in particular, it's such a simple design but it somehow seems like it couldn't work for anyone else. Just a great example of writing for a group exactly where they're out to allow for maximum success.
On to SW! I'm curious to see Bellbrook again; they were one of the last groups I got to catch yesterday, and they're tiny tiny tiny, but I was really confused later in the day when I saw they received such a low Prelims score. I'll be looking again this time for what I missed in Prelims. I thought they had a perfectly respectable design & execution for such a small SW group.
