I don't find your views/opinion irrational. Try to engage in a conversation and exchange of views instead of saying this is all stupid and an overreaction. If you can't do that, your contributions become less valuable to me and simply clog up the message board
Here is the funny thing...My opinion is closer to your opinion than the people you are arguing with. I just find your approach tiring. I have a decent amount of insight into the current situation, but have found it a waste of time to try and have a reasonable conversation.
I will answer your last question in one last feeble attempt to spark a conversation...
The marching activity (and the performing arts like choir and drama) should: 1. Guard the well-being of their community 2. Provide creative and competitive outlets for their members 3. Work with their local school (as a vast majority of these groups are school based) to create an avenue to hosting and participating in competitions 4. Work within the revenue structures they can control and influence. (Our local program has raised money just fine, they just had to adjust what they were doing. Touchless transactions, digital campaigns, non-congregate events) 5. Keep forging ahead in the face of national events (WGI/BOA) being precarious propositions
The long term health of the activity does not hinge on WGI and BOA. Yes, we all like those to happen, but good teachers and good programs can thrive without them. Even if they both fold, someone will fill the hole.

BOA, WGI and DCI have all been around since the early to mid 1970s; 45 to 50 years. Each of these organizations have proven themselves invaluable in both the evolution and expansion of the marching arts. Yes, the marching arts would continue if any one of these organizations fold due to this pandemic, but the activity would never be the same without them. The fact that this country has some of the best infectious disease experts in the world and has spent years and countless hours on the development of a pandemic playbook and still can not get control of this virus is nothing short of tragic. We have devolved into factions of opinions and a patchwork of policies instead of a country with a comprehensive plan of attack led by the nations leading infectious disease experts. My opinion is that this is like fighting a war without the generals. You can't win. So my opinion, which is also that of notable infectious disease experts, is that there needs to be aggressive testing and contact tracing along with wearing masks and social distancing to get this thing better contained until a vaccine is available. Looking at the Covid reports out of Wisconsin, Missouri and the Dakotas is pretty disheartening. This month in Michigan, just a month into the school year, there have already been growing outbreaks at universities and even a rural school district. Sorry to go on such a rant. It would be just such a shame if organizations like BOA, WGI and DCI are unable to bounce back from this.

"Testing the waters" has resulted in the highest death count globally, and it's not even close. Anyone can argue that a subset of people that died have done so do to pre-existing or underlying health conditions, but the fact is that this has accelerated or directly contributed to the deaths of 200k+ people.
It doesn't matter if children are lower risk. Children go to school -> children get infected -> children infect teachers and families -> people of all ages now infected -> death count continues to go up.
My opinion is that the only valid opinions falls SOMEWHERE on the spectrum of exercising caution. This situation does not warrant maintaining a laissez-faire attitude. Those who do, in my opinion, are incredibly selfish. We're ALL sacrificing.

What is the data are we seeing in front of our eyes at the reopening of schools.... in 30 counties around the world with no mitigation schemes, no masks, or social distancing and the answer is: what we are absolutely seeing is no uptick in cases, no transmission from children to teachers or elderly grandparents. All things people were concerned about. The opening of Disney in Florida is not resulting in a huge uptick in hospitalizations or god forbid deaths of Covid 19. It just simply isn’t.

Yeah, I'm going to call it quits on this thread. Stop trying to explain COVID away. It's here and nothing indicates anything should be reopened anytime soon.
