1:45 - New Braunfels H.S., TX* (DROP, no schedule adjustment yet) Past practice suggests that the lunch break will be extended and all bands between lunch and 1:45 will be pushed back one slot.

In all seriousness (I’ve only seen Vandy and Leander on YT) both productions seems a little “light?” I wouldn’t say safe as both had challenging moments for sure, but perhaps a little watered down from the norm. Leander’s Guard seemed noticeably smaller than 2019 - by probably at least half.
Which I think is the trend for the whole country - honestly I hope the kids just have a great season and super challenging them might be insensitive.

Round Rock has been fortunate in that they have been able to maintain their numbers. In fact their guard has grown. I am impressed with their new guard instructor.

I’m personally of the opinion that although we will not see programs at their 2019 levels we will however see regional strengths this season. Design innovation will be seen from Indiana and most Midwestern programs (probably top tier BOA). Texas will outshine the country in regards to musicianship acumen (UIL is going to be insane). I feel we have to remember that this is still a rebuilding year and COVID has affected the country, industry and craft for those program we love so much. Let’s give these kids a break and just enjoy the season. It’s still going to be a fun.

Until BOA drops them, I'm keeping our expected drops in the predictions in parentheses.
Predictions: 1. Vandegrift H.S., TX 2. Leander H.S., TX 3. Claudia Taylor Johnson H.S., TX 4. Vista Ridge H.S., TX 5. Cedar Park H.S., TX 6. James Bowie H.S., TX 7. Cedar Ridge H.S., TX 8. Round Rock H.S., TX 9. Westlake H.S., TX 10. Westwood H.S., TX 11. Lake Travis H.S., TX 12. Rouse H.S., TX 13. Hendrickson H.S., TX 14. (Burleson Centennial H.S., TX) 14/15. Weiss H.S., TX 15/16. (New Braunfels H.S., TX) 15/17. Del Rio H.S., TX 16/18. Pflugerville H.S., TX 17/19. Bastrop H.S., TX 18/20. Princeton H.S., TX 19/21. Anderson H.S., TX 20/22. Midlothian Heritage H.S., TX 21/23. Burnet H.S., TX 22/24. Stony Point H.S., TX 23/25. East View H.S., TX 24/26. Veterans Memorial H.S., TX 25/27. The Ann Richards School, TX
CLASS A 1. The Ann Richards School, TX
CLASS AA 1. Bastrop H.S., TX 2. Princeton H.S., TX 3. Midlothian Heritage H.S., TX
CLASS AAA 1. Leander H.S., TX 2. Cedar Park H.S., TX 3. Rouse H.S., TX
CLASS AAAA 1. Vandegrift H.S., TX 2. Claudia Taylor Johnson H.S., TX 3. Vista Ridge H.S., TX
The top four seem pretty solid, but to be the king you gotta beat the king, so Vandegrift gets the nod here. Leander, CTJ, and Vista Ridge will be neck-and-neck for 2nd-4th.
Cedar Park (5th) is less than one point ahead of Westlake (9th) in my power ratings, so there will likely be chaos in this section, with any of these bands a threat to be Top 5.
Bastrop is only 0.15 ahead of Princeton, so could be a dogfight for the Class AA crown, too.

I come with the Westwood love like I always do.
Their band this year is HUGE. Their guard is HUGE. Their show is super sweet and they sound amazing. They are farther along than I have seen them in years.
/yes I am biased /I see good things for them this year

Predictions based on things I've heard + some speculation
1. CTJ - Coming off the most normal season and winning a weird 6A State, I expect them to win in convincing fashion like they did in 2017 especially after what I have heard of their show 2. Vandegrift - reigning grand nats champion, easily could end up at 1st like in 2019 but their show seems a bit lighter than in 2019 3. Vista Ridge - haven't heard a lot about this band except that their show is really hard which might make getting higher than 3rd hard for them but could help them out at grand nats if they can peak late 4. Leander - Out of the clear top 4 here I think leander is clearly in 4th. I don't really like their show and their band looks noticeably smaller. I would prefer if I was wrong about this tho because the theme seems cool but the music seems boring 5. Cedar Ridge - Cedar ridge sounds as good as any year but I'm still not sure about them due to a huge drop in size. I have them at 5th just because round rock hasnt done well at austin recently 6. Round Rock - From what I saw of their show they could easily return to their 2013-2017 run where the medaled almost every year. The music sounds well put together already and their guard is much improved 7. Cedar Park - I have heard absolutely nothing about cedar park this year but considering they got 5th last year over cedar ridge I expect them to do well 8. Westwood - I expect the most improved band of 2019 to continue that path and hopefully push for a spot in SA finals(which should be easier this year without flomo or bell attending) 9. Bowie 10. Hendrickson - I don't expect them to be worse than in 2019. Im not sure what is going on with the director change but I think they are due for some positive regression 11. Rouse 12. Westlake / Lake Travis
Music - CTJ Visual - Vista Ridge GE - CTJ

Cedar Park seems to be approaching this year with a lot of power in their winds, could maybe make top 5?? The director change at Cedar Park is finally taking hold. The front ensemble and battery is probably still the best in Texas. The winds are much more powerful this year than previous years. They aren't as clean though as there is still some overplaying. They are also marching a lot more students this year than in previous years which will help with overall volume. The show is aggressive and difficult. It also adds in more GE than previous years but still with a nod to UIL which is not as GE heavy. Guard is tight but small. They are going to take people by surprise this year in BOA. In UIL they are still the 3x back to back to back champions. They will get stiff competition from Leander, Highland Park, and Dripping Springs. I see them going top 5 in this show as the productions sit right now.

I wonder… What is Del Rio going to do here? Place somewhere in the middle of the pack, I'd expect. This contest is unfortunately way too stacked for a band like Del Rio make a running for the finals. Loved watching the show on the stream and looking forward to seeing it in person this weekend!

I think Del Rio will place closer to finals than past years. They are playing much more balanced and have alot more dynamic contrast in this year's production. I have them in the 15-17 range.
