The director change at Cedar Park is finally taking hold. The front ensemble and battery is probably still the best in Texas. The winds are much more powerful this year than previous years. They aren't as clean though as there is still some overplaying. They are also marching a lot more students this year than in previous years which will help with overall volume. The show is aggressive and difficult. It also adds in more GE than previous years but still with a nod to UIL which is not as GE heavy. Guard is tight but small. They are going to take people by surprise this year in BOA. In UIL they are still the 3x back to back to back champions. They will get stiff competition from Leander, Highland Park, and Dripping Springs. I see them going top 5 in this show as the productions sit right now. Cedar Park 2016 was when I fell in love with their percussion. I’m really happy they’re starting to get back into it now! They just won "Thunder in the Hills" in Dripping Springs this weekend by a pretty fair margin.

A better battery than Round Rock?? Or Cedar Ridge. Idk that’s a hard sell to this percussion fan but I’d love to be proven wrong

Also I got confirmation from a student at Stony Point that they have dropped (now going to the CapCity contest), no schedule updates that I know of but I'd imagine it's just the start time is now 8:15.

Idk that’s a hard sell to this percussion fan but I’d love to be proven wrong When Cedar Ridge still attended they tussled with Leander’s big three lines and I believe took it at least once or twice too. Round Rock pretty much never competes in drumline anymore. However, check me off as someone who wished they still did (and would looooooove to see what they would do Indoor).

My son did percussion at Round Rock. During that time RR competed in drumline competitions. They won the Dripping Springs Thunder in the Hills competition several times, they also won Lone Star Classic at Marcus several times. The won numerous indoor competitions over the years. They did the tcgc circuit, not sure why they never did WGI. I don't know why they stopped doing competitions. They've had the same percussion director for over 20 years, Steve Roeder. Now if only the announcers can pronounce his name correctly..

Always loved Rock's drumline, it does seem very odd that they don't compete at these anymore, especially since they seem as good as they've ever been...

Yes, they're still as good as they've ever been. Their cymbal line otherwise known as the cymbal chicks unfortunately won't be returning. Due to the pandemic and staffing they will not be back. They may come back at some point in the future. They had a cymbal line that many others wanted to emulate.

Any idea why Del Rio dropped out? Seems they’re in best shape to final here than ever before.

I’m really not sure but I’m definitely disappointed. Yeah, I think they were originally signed up for McAllen, Austin, Midland and San Antonio. That’s a lot of BOA! Hoping it’s more related to cost & logistics and less about COVID. They were so great at McAllen.

Dont sleep on round rock! They are farther along at this point than they have been since 2016. Music is much improved and harder but they seem to be handling it extremely well. They really haven't lost any numbers and the guard is definitely bigger and cleaner than the Last 3 years for sure. I've seen several of the Austin area bands and if they can keep it as clean as the last few runthroughs they may just medal or at least be top 5.

Having seen some of the top groups at this regional, here's my shot at predictions:
1. Claudia Taylor Johnson (Visual and General Effect captions) 2. Vandegrift (Music caption) 3. Vista Ridge 4. Leander 5. Cedar Ridge 6. Cedar Park 7. James Bowie 8. Round Rock 9. Westwood 10. Westlake 11. Hendrickson 12. Lake Travis
Would not be surprised to see CTJ sweep all captions though, their show this year is special.

I'm highly debating getting a Box 5 subscription for this event, but I don't know if I can justify the cost... :/
