That's a big blow. Cleveland is still planning to go for now, but it wouldn't surprise me to see Johnston County to do the same thing in the coming weeks. Isn't Cleveland in Rowan County? That might be another Cleveland. The Cleveland I'm referring to is in Clayton, NC about 30 minutes southeast of Cary

Not even sure there is any school in the town. Thanks for the geography lesson.

Based on comments on the event staff call this evening, remove the Wake County, NC schools from the list. Cary Green Hope Green Level The Carolinas are having issues that is for sure The Cary area is an area where many many people work in health care and I'm not at all surprised that both band membership (green hope in the 80s, from what I saw on you tube Cary seemed very small too) and travel are way down. The area is actually doing well in terms of covid cases. Cleveland, for those of you who remember the heydays of West Johnston, gets a lot of the students who would previously have gone there, plus clayton kids. Saw a pic of them and they seemed smallish but they were really never much more than 100 iirc.

As a result, the local nc competitions will be the best they've been this century. That's not a bad thing.

School administration has suspended any out of state trips, this might impact Cleveland as well. [img alt=" " src="//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/embarrassed.png" class="smile"] That's a big blow. Cleveland is still planning to go for now, but it wouldn't surprise me to see Johnston County to do the same thing in the coming weeks. Maybe but Johnston and wake counties might as well be 1000 miles apart in terms of their beliefs about issues like this. And I'll leave it at that.

Maybe:
Baldwinsville, NY

Baldwinsville is one of New York's top bands, but the New York bands aren't like they were in the 80s and 90s. Will probably be in the 7th-12th range if they do show up.

In a semirelated note, I wonder how many kids will clamor for some of their band fees back that were earmarked for travel? Or if the programs will resist that?

In 2018 it was their highest score and placement in NYSFBC (2nd place - 94.45), and first time beating West Genesee HS, and has pretty much stayed in top 5 since 2016

So I think you've got a good top 5 battle here with Madison, cleveland, trumbull and the pa powerhouses. I agree! Predictions: 1. Cleveland H.S., NC 2. Kiski Area H.S., PA 3. Norwin H.S., PA 4. James Madison H.S., VA 5. Trumbull H.S., CT 6. Spring-Ford H.S., PA 7. Baldwinsville H.S., NY 8. John Champe H.S., VA 9. Westfield H.S., VA 10. Westfield H.S., NJ 11. John P. Stevens H.S., NJ 12. Freedom H.S., VA 13. Dominion H.S., VA 14. Battlefield H.S., VA 15. Edison H.S., NJ 16. Lightridge H.S., VA 17. Susquehannock H.S., PA 18. Urbana H.S., MD 19. Central Bucks South H.S., PA CLASS A none CLASS AA 1. Kiski Area H.S., PA 2. Norwin H.S., PA 3. Baldwinsville H.S., NY CLASS AAA 1. Cleveland H.S., NC 2. James Madison H.S., VA 3. Trumbull H.S., CT CLASS AAAA 1. Spring-Ford H.S., PA 2. Westfield H.S, VA 3. John P. Stevens H.S., NJ This will be one of my favorite "off the radar" regionals because it looks to be wide open. The Top 5 can fall in any order, although Trumbull is probably the odd one out and the least likely of the five to claim gold. Random bits of info: New York high schools have a weird tendency to name their high schools after people in memoriam, but still use the city or village name when competing in band or sport. A few years ago, when Central Square competed in BOA, they showed up under their "official" school name: Paul V. Moore H.S. from Central Square, NY. Baldwinsville is technically Charles W. Baker H.S. from Baldwinsville, NY, so if you see Charles W. Baker H.S. in BOA's official lineups or recaps, that's why. Baldwinsville is right on the border of AA and AAA and could end up in either class. Central Bucks South is right on the border of AAA and AAAA and could end up in either class. Lightridge is a brand new school that opened last fall to relieve overcrowding at John Champe. I am unsure if Lightridge is 9-11 this year or 9-12, they will be in AA or AAA, respectively. I have also moved John Champe from AAAA down to AAA since Lightridge opened.

11. John Paul Stevens H.S., NJ I believe the P. actually stands for Peter. That is what I heard not sure if that is entirely true.

I am not sure who his replacement is but I hope they can keep up the momentum! Bville has quickly become a shining star in the Northeast; I want them to continue succeeding and to continue inspiring their peers to heightened excellence.

The Top 5 can fall in any order, although Trumbull is probably the odd one out and the least likely of the five to claim gold. Agree, though I imagine breaking top 5 would be the lesser concern for this year. They were not quite themselves in the 2018 and 2019 seasons, especially when compared to their 2015-2016 peak. They also started dropping quite a bit in numbers, having gone from ~150 members in their 2015 and 2016 seasons to ~110 in 2019, and now they have dropped from US Bands' top division to division 4, which is 80-100 total members. Hoping they are able to recover, as they were New England's only consistent BOA presence.

To be fair, since i’d say about 2013 when Lassiter won, this show has not had a super clear winner.

To be fair, since i’d say about 2013 when Lassiter won, this show has not had a super clear winner. The winner isn't always super clear before the show but I will say that after prelims the picture becomes way more clear who the top 3 or 4 is and who is the most likely winner.
