I was recently told by a Cleveland staff member that while they didn't do a show last year, they did have regular technique rehearsals. So make of that what you will.

Something else I'm interested in is what bands had a season last year? I know Norwin did a show as well as Kiski. Did JM or Cleveland have any sort of season? Edison, and JPS were both doing v-UsBands. Edison dominated Division III each week, and had a undefeated season. JPS pretty stayed between 5th to 3rd place in each comp. I believe Westfield didn't put on a show last year. Lastly, Norwin was repeatedly winning Division IV until mid-October where they kept losing to American Fork (UT) and Green Canyon (UT).

Yeah the top 3 were green canyon, American fork and norwin for sure...there were a few times JPS didn't even get a score though if I recall? They only received a superior rating or something like that?

True it was until the last week of October when they started to recieve scores and they were losing to Churchill Fulshear, all of the Utah bands, plus Walled Lake Central.

These are my predictions for the show. I've seen a few of the bands and know this history of others so that's why I've chosen to put them in this order. The top 4 could change in any way. These 4 groups will really be pushing for the number one spot this weekend and any of them could take it if another group has a not so great run.
Predictions: 1. Norwin 2. Kiski Area 3. James Madison 4. Cleveland 5. Westfield (VA) 6. Spring Ford 7. Trumbull 8. J.P. Stevens 9. John Champe 10. Freedom 11. Edison 12. Thomas Jefferson
Best Music: Norwin Best Visual: Kiski Area Best General Effect: Norwin

My understanding is that these were weekly rehearsals outside of school hours, but I could have misunderstood.

So far, Kiski has been the best by far.
Westfield, NJ seems to be having some technical difficulties. What are the rules about starting and finishing within the allotted time for the band?

I'm going to the finals portion. Watching prelims livestreamed from home at the moment. I feel like the audio recording equipment isn't the best. Seemed better with the last company.

Really hoping Trumbull rebounds from this year. They're at 78 total members (39 winds, no tubas), and their consistent Scholastic World finalist guard is down to 11 members. I think we'll see them in finals, but this is not the same Trumbull we've been seeing at BOA events.

You can be quite effective at 78 members with good execution. 78 this year won't be quite as small relatively as in other years.

I hope they recover too. Great program. Unfortunately, this show missed the mark.

Unlike previous weeks, timing penalties are to be assessed beginning this week. If their issues were not venue-specif it is possible a penalty will be applied. (Note - I don't know the details of what happened so it may be the case that no timing issues were in place)

Don’t know enough about half of these bands to make any predictions worth a damn, but my one prediction is that Cleveland will win their first BOA regional here. Okay never mind.

Agreed. That was rough. Great program. A lot of these programs are going to need some grace and patience to get back to where they were due to COVID.

I enjoyed Cleveland. They're probably not beating Kiski Area, but they're easily the second best band so far. It was a fresh take on a classic story/show and I appreciate the level of difficulty they're trying to achieve.

Does that mean it wasn't good? Sorry didn't see them In my opinion, the woodwinds started out strong...brass fell flat/muddled. CG was basic work. I would predict them in 3-4th range.

It's just shocking to see a band that was already not huge at nearly half their size, and it's not just the size issue.

Totally agree about Trumbull. The size was not the only issue. I was actually kind of shocked by the CG. Despite being small, the work just wasn't where they had been in the past. Does anyone know, do they have a new CG director?

I remember watching them live at University of Delaware, I think that was the year they got grand champion. that guard was phenomenal. I hope they can rebuild to that.

If I was deaf, Norwin would win this Regional. Unfortunately I'm not deaf and they sounded bad (for Norwin standards).
