Troy H.S., TX is listed as confirmed but is not on the schedule It's always nice to have a band fill the "TBD" slot at the top of the first version of the published schedule. Hopefully that is the case here.

Rough draw for summit, who I would on other circumstances expect to make finals here. Its still possible but will be harder now.

Looks like this might be the regional where Cedar Park finally gets its flowers and likely leaves Round Rock or Keller as the best band in the nation without a regional win. Pumping the brakes on this for now. Didn’t expect Bowie to skip state! Should be an interesting race. Bowie’s skipping state? First I’m hearing of this.

It’s not at all on their calendar—Area or their class’s State. And driving back and forth between Waco and even North Austin would be aggressive. It seems it’s not in the cards. But I could be wrong.

Perhaps they're just modest and don't assume they'll qualify It would take quite a feat for Bowie to miss out on area! It’s become more of a concern that consistently high performing bands are out by region rather than area nowadays if only because of how strict the timing rules and penalty are.

It would be neat for Cedar Park to finally win a first regional. But Bowie is always strong. My guess is that Hendrickson is going to be a good dark horse this year and will jump Summit. Aledo is a wildcard. Rouse is have a beautiful show and it will be played well. Just not sure how a newer school will react to missing a season.

I got to see the Rouse Parent performance this past Thursday (9/16/21), they are looking very good this year! They look to be around the same size as Leander this year. I would not be surprised to see them take 2nd here. I am not a Rouse Parent, was just out walking near Gumpton Stadium and heard a band warming up and went to check what was going on. Was lucky enough to be in time to see the full show from the stands Was a good evening walk!

I'm very interested to see how Rock Hill does at their contest this weekend. (They split from Prosper a couple of years ago) If they are successful, they may be one to watch at this contest.

This will be the contest where Cedar Park finally comes home with an overall win.
Rouse is strong but they have not cleaned up well as of tonight's TMC show. The Bowie show is a mess and it's not recoverable much like Cedar Park's 2018 show.
The performers seem to be playing at a high level and marching well. It's just design where the the show isn't working for me.

Not sure Rouse can get past Cedar Park, but they have beat Bowie twice this year already. It is for sure going to be an interesting next couple of weeks.

This is going to be a very interesting contest. I think all of the bands here are 5A, except for James Bowie who is going here instead of their area contest for whatever reason.
Cedar Park should be the frontrunner I think.

The design of the show doesn't feel like your typical Bowie show.

There's just something that doesn't translate with the show. It's not a student issue. The design of the show doesn't feel like your typical Bowie show. I don’t think we should be measuring a bands potential for success based on the fact you don’t “feel” like their show is typical to what they usually do. Their general effect scores are doing fine and I really don’t think the design is going to hold them back at all. Bowie isn’t even one of the bands that has a sort of “typical design” they’re one of the only bands that genuinely seems to rotate from style to style. Besides even if a band does have a typical design just because they venture out of it doesn’t mean they’ll be unsuccessful, see Vista Ridge 2019 or Broken Arrow 2019.

After the area contests this last weekend I don't think there is anyone going to Waco that can get close to either Cedar Park or Rouse. Both of these bands have beaten Bowie twice this year already. The Area H finals was really tight, however, Cedar Park had a less than stellar run and Rouse knocked it out of the park. I think on a BOA scoresheet Rouse might have won Area H, but UIL scoring is a little different. All of that said I believe Waco will go to Cedar Park giving them their first ever BOA win. Rouse finishes 2nd, and Bowie 3rd.

Regarding Bowie not competing in UIL area this year. Could it be because Bowie uses microphones along the sidelines? The signals from these microphones are used to bring out woodwinds and other sections when they are not front and center. I've seen them perform a few times this year and they do a great job of utilizing these microphones in a pleasant way. It allows subtle woodwind sounds to be heard from the audience.
However, in UIL, microphones are not allowed to be used unless they are for small ensembles.

Leander for example did not bring their shotgun mics to UIL Area. I don't think the presence of mics would singlehandedly prevent Bowie from wanting to do UIL, I have no idea why they aren't doing it but your guess is as good as anybody's.
