The events have been paired every year recently. That is what I was thinking too, but in 2019 calendar it say "Marching Band Tour" from Thursday to Saturday, and they only went to their States on Friday and not to the BOA event on Saturday. Plus, I didn't want to people to come after me for putting it in the confirmed category so I put it in possibility.

Confirmed: Green Canyon, UT Green Canyon is a new school that is on their way up like a rocket. I expect big things out of them in the upcoming years. Trying to get confirmation, but the last I heard was that Clovis, NM was going to try for BOA St. Louis again (they were 8th in 2018) for their BOA trip. Ayala is going to a WBA show (Don Lugo) that is literally just down the road for them. Clovis West (CA) is going to a WBA show (Clovis HS, CA) that is literally just down the road for them. The San Marcos high school that has been competing in BOA recently is from San Diego County, and is NOT the same San Marcos high school that scored well at BOA regionals in the early 2000s (that San Marcos is from Santa Barbara). WBA is not having a championships this year (just a one year pause) to let bands get back into the flow of the season. I would not be surprised to see one or two WBA first-timers show up at St. George when all is said and done. Then again, considering California bands get virtually no financial support from their schools, I can also see no CA bands making the trip.

Ayala is going to a WBA show (Don Lugo) that is literally just down the road for them. Looks like Ayala might not participate in any BOA event then. Ayala has signed up for four WBA shows this fall: 10/9 @ Ayala 10/23 @ TBD SoCal (probably Vista Murrieta) 11/6 @ Don Lugo 11/13 @ Trabuco Hills Four shows would be an awfully light schedule for Ayala (they usually do 6-7), but it's a possibility, especially the year after everything was cancelled. I can see them signing up for the 10/16 SCSBOA show at Rowland and/or the 10/30 SCSBOA shows at Loara or Mt. Carmel in San Diego (I would love to see Mt. Carmel, possibly the SCSBOA's top band, at BOA someday; they haven't been since the 90s). They're not on any of the lineups for CSBC shows, but the 10/30 Big Orange Classic at Riverside College is a possibility, too. The closest BOA show to them on an open date would be Midland, TX on 10/2, which is over 1,000 miles and 16 hours of driving. So yeah, I would expect we won't be seeing Ayala at any BOA shows this fall.

It would be smart for them to attend a regional but 1000 miles to Midland is far!

Even with those drops hopefully the contest still shapes up. I’d imagine Pinecrest would really like some BOA feedback before they trek up to Indianapolis.

To be fair, only one of those groups actually dropped. Etiwanda and Upland were never on any of the speculated lists, nor were any Arizona programs. This regional looks like it’s still shaping up to be pretty decent!

Moving from Texas to Utah, I have to admit I was disappointed at the state of band programs here, but I have to say that there have been some promising improvements in several groups over the last few years. Utah may yet become a strong center for band activity.

Not sure why it’d be mentioned then. I decided to look at schools who have a history of attending BOA events and were within reasonable travel distance to St. George, to see if they might be a surprise addition.
