I didnβt know what to title this thread but I had to share this performance a few years ago by the Timber Creek HS (Florida not Texas) Wind Ensemble. They played O Magnum Mysterium with no conductor and completely by memory. I was awed.

I saw this about a month ago as well. We played the same piece as well for UIL and I tried to convince our director to have us do the same thing, but he said no. This is such a great piece. I will say, though, that when we went over to do a side-by-side rehearsal with one of our feeder programs, we quickly found that it was one of their director's favorite piece. He got to conduct us with that piece for a little while and we put a lot of emotion into it, and by the end of the piece he was in tears. It was a really heartwarming moment that I will remember for a very long time. It really shows how much music, when performed well, can move someone emotionally, whether it be joyfulness, sadness, or anger. Music is one of only two truly universal languages in the world (in my opinion), with the other being numbers/mathematics.

I wish you had a recording of it!

ISSMA Concert Band State Finals 1st Carmel 2nd Lawrence Central 3rd North Central 4th Bloomington North 5th Avon 6th Castle 7th Jasper 8th Penn I feel like between Carmel's GN threepeat, WGI Scholastic World guard championship, and now this (only Indiana but still against a bunch of fantastic groups), the current Carmel band program might be the best all-around band program in history. It's rare for a program to achieve at a world class level in every aspect and I feel confident that if Carmel fielded a WGI percussion group they could be among the best in PSW too.

I agree but I think Avon is right up there with them.

From what I know, Carmelβs percussion isnβt as top tier as the rest of its program.

From what I know, Carmelβs percussion isnβt as top tier as the rest of its program. Agreed. Avon has it all. Donβt get me wrong. Carmel is most certainly the top marching program at the moment, but Avon is tops at nearly everything else. They are neck and neck for sure. I canβt wait to see them battle it out live this year in Indianapolis. I also really hope Carmel gets dethroned this fall. By a Texas band of course. But seriously, there are truly no better all around programs in the world than Carmel and Avon right now.

Stravinsky - The Rite of Spring. TMEA All State. Only 2.5 days of rehearsal! Unbelievable.
