I definitely don’t want to leave out these classifications but I feel like 5A and 6A each need their own threads so this is how I’m setting it up.

I know 4A will be on a whole new level. If last year was so competitive during the mess, then this year will be one to watch out for. I fully agree with abtwitch, I think everyone needs to watch for these smaller classifications because they have been impressing more and more each and every year.

I wish more of these groups would compete in BOA. There are so many good small school programs in Texas that with a few years designing with BOA in mind could really shake things up in the A division.

Area E is very interesting, there are 3 brand new schools competing. Two from Comal ISD (Davenport and Pieper, same district as Canyon and Smithson Valley) and one from Lamar CISD (Randle, same district as Fulshear and Foster). With how many state spots there are, I would count on at least one of these new programs to qualify. A little bit of a history lesson, Fulshear qualified out of this area in 2018 and even made state finals just two years after being opened in 2016.

All 3A schedules are posted and every single 2A-4A area has completed all their contests so I have updated the participants list for 2A and 4A. I also updated the list of 18 bands competing at 1A state.

Also apparently the auto-advance rule is no longer a thing, it only effect 1 state spot (2A Area D is only taking 4 now as opposed to 5), so thankfully not much has changed.

For some reason I hadn’t thought about how many small Texas bands there are, probably because they get so buried by the enormous ones.

Even though Finals is not over, I still want to congratulate every 4A band that competed today. I saw some amazing things from every band I watched. Specifically, Lumberton's run made me emotional and I shed many massive tears. While I am shocked they didnt make finals, It is still an awesome accomplishment to advance to State. They hold a record with 4 other bands in Texas which is having been to State 4 out of the last 5 years. Awesome stuff in the 4A Division.
