I would like to help you with your quoting technique though. I’m not exactly sure what you are doing when you are replying to a post, but my Type A brain is desperate to “fix” it. 🤣 As a moderator, you have the ability to do so. I fix many examples of poorly nested quotes when I run across them, but the extra line of superfluous text in Uncle Baby Billy's posts hasn't bothered me enough (yet) to do the same.

Reasons to combine multiple high schools in one district: - Shared resources based on district infrastructure (practice facilities, district-wide staff assignments)
- An imbalance of available budgets at individual schools within a district (instrument budgets, staff cuts, travel budgets)
- Dwindling numbers/interest that put an individual school in jeopardy of losing their program over time (think we can all agree we don't want to see this happen)
Reasons not to combine multiple high schools in one district: - Super-mega-awesome-competitive marching band
Can anybody give me an example of just one marching band that has combined for option 2 as opposed to some factors related to option 1? Forest Hills, kind of. There were good reasons that made sense for them as a district, obviously, but both Anderson and Turpin were doing fine on their own. I see Forest Hills as more of a resources situation. The district was about 90% of the way to combining the high schools into a single school (it was going to cost less to upgrade one building to handle all the students than to make needed repairs to both) before public uproar put an end to that.

It was more about the extra line of extra text and code between what you type and the quoted text. An example is provided. And I'm responding to this BEFORE fixing the quoting on your reply to move your response outside of the quote box and then adding the corrected version below so you can see the difference. THIS is the quote nesting that I find myself fixing all over the forums. yes I have absolutely used my mod privileges to correct posts in here many times but I would love to see UBB learn the proper posting technique for himself. 😉 Is this what you are talking about - Or did I get it wrong?

Forest Hills, kind of. There were good reasons that made sense for them as a district, obviously, but both Anderson and Turpin were doing fine on their own. As marching bands go, Anderson was OK. Sometimes they got a I at state, sometimes they got a II. Turpin was consistently getting a I at State and had dipped a toe into BOA.

As much as I love Camdenton they couldn’t beat Kiski or Morton this year imo. Other than that though, great list. The algorithm may be into something

CLASS AAA 1. Blue Springs H.S., MO 2. Cedar Park H.S., TX 3. Rouse H.S., TX 4. Castle H.S., IN 5. Leander H.S., TX 6. Dobyns-Bennett H.S., TN 7. Wakeland H.S., TX 8. Harrison H.S., GA 9. Wylie East H.S., TX 10. Franklin H.S., TN Next up: Rosemount H.S., MN Rankings include all bands on my four-year BOA sheet, including bands who may not be participating in BOA this season What's your thought process for Franklin (80.575 at Jacksonville) and Harrison (81.2 at Jacksonville) over Rosemount (83.25 at St Louis)? Mainly: you can't do a direct score-to-score comparison across shows. Do you think Wando and Dobyns-Bennett (84.60 and 84.40 at Jacksonville) would have barely been above Grain Valley (84.425) at St. Louis (a week later, I might add)? Or might their scores have gone up quite a bit, into the upper 80s? For every BOA Regional, The Algorithm tries to calculate an "end-of-season" BOA GN Prelims score for the rankings. It compares the spacing of every band at a regional against the spacing and scores of those same bands at other regionals. Take Jacksonville. If we assume Wando would end up around 91.0 at the end of the year, we could give Jacksonville Finals a show factor of 0.93 (84.6 / 91.0 = 0.92967) Thus, we can estimate end of season scores for Franklin and Harrison: Franklin = 80.575 / 0.93 = 86.640 Harrison = 81.200 / 0.93 = 87.312 Now at St. Louis, we can assume Broken Arrow will finish up as one of the top few bands in the nation. Let's predict them for a 96.0 (just for example). Using only Broken Arrow's score, St. Louis Finals would have a show factor of 0.965 (92.65 / 96.00 = 0.96510). Now, apply that to Rosemount... Rosemount = 83.25 / 0.965 = 86.269 And so we have an "equal footing" prediction as to what each band might score if they all showed up on the same judging panel at GN Prelims: 87.312 Harrison 86.640 Franklin 86.269 Rosemount This is a rough approximation, not the exact formula the algorithm uses (which is far more complicated), but this works for show and tell.

But they just beat Morton by less than a point at ISU, and Camdenton beat Morton by more than that at Cedar Falls. I could see moving Marian up a spot or two, but I'm not sure they could beat any of the Top Four in the list... yet. November may well be a different story (it often is with Marian).

I pretty much agree with you. I think between Morton, Camdenton, and Kiski, it’d have to come down to the point in the season. I think they’re all pretty evenly matched, but if you look early in the season Camdenton is a clear winner. They start out strong and then tend to stagnate. Later in the season, Morton’s hornline would kick their butt. Camdenton and Kiski’s scores from the same weekend are nearly identical (there isn’t a single caption with a clear lead) with Kiski just barely holding onto fractions of percents that give them the .4 difference in score. Later in the season I would expect Kiski to widen that gap while Camdenton plateaus. Camdenton isn’t a young program by any means, but compared to Kiski they’re just starting out in the world of being competitively viable. They have the opportunity to improve and compensate for those late-season weaknesses. This year, it didn’t happen, but once they establish a GN rotation (I’m expecting them to start going every non-Tarpon year) they’ll prove their ranking.

Based on their placement at Owasso and 5A OBA, I think they could have placed 38-42 at STL this year, possibly medaling above Hollister. Are they pretty close to top 10 in The Algorithm™ Class A rankings?

Technically, most Ohio bands are "district-wide" "all-star" marching bands. The majority of school districts have a single high school. We could say the same about much of Indiana as well. This may be one of the most asinine replies I have ever seen. Are you really comparing a one high school school district of 6,000 kids to a school corporation with 100k kids, 17 high schools one of which is a performing arts magnet school? In Ohio, you would literally have to combine the Columbus, Cleveland and Cincinnati school districts together to have a school district the size of Pinellas County. In Indiana, you would combine Fort Wayne, Indianapolis Public Schools, Evansville Vanderburgh Public schools and Hamilton Southeastern to have a school district the size of Pinellas County. And to my knowledge, none of those school districts in Indiana and Ohio have a performing arts magnet school. Of the schools in Indiana, Ft Wayne, Evansville and Hamilton Southeastern support multiple competitive marching bands. 100% agree with your comment! comparing this to Texas, imagine having a select marching ensemble from a single performing arts school where you have your pick of ALL the students from both of Texas’ LISD’s(about 93K in total) wouldn’t that be nice??? Completely ignoring the obvious that there isn’t any apparatus in place for public schools to recruit for band of all things in those areas you mentioned, not even close to the same.

But if they're still Class A, then Collinsville (OK) would be 5th in Class A rankings, ahead of South Jones and right behind Estill County.
