A few questions: 3. IS IT COP-L OR COPE-L I believe it's pronounced more like "couple." Its definitely a unique pronunciation, like many places in Texas are. Folks in that area put a really hard emphasis on COP and then slightly less emphasis at the ending “Elle” sound.

I just find it interesting that both Coppell and Pearland had transportation issues that forced them to reschedule their performance times, and both get into finals. I do feel for the kids at Round Rock, James Bowie, Westwood, Westlake, etc., for missing out. I'm not sure what this means for Round Rock going into Nats but they've missed SA Finals before and then turned around and made GN Finals, so who knows. I really cannot wait to see the recaps tonight though. Should be interesting. Idk about Pearland but Coppell had one of the best time slots in the evening, they wouldn’t cheat so they could wake up at 5 am so they could make a morning performance.

Also, is this the first time we've had FIVE bands from one district in a super regional Finals?? Jeezus! Leander ISD is so jaw-droopingly impressive! Did some digging because I was interested to see what other times have come close and turns out 2008 Atlanta finals had six just from cobb county, and 2009 had seven

What's the piece Rouse is playing after the opening hit? It's the same one Brownsburg is playing, and I think Prosper as well... they all have been doing great with GE this season as well, haha. Its called “Air Waltz” by Oliver Davis and I know Brownsburg plays it but I don’t think Prosper does.

Congrats to Hebron!! For past several years I always find out when they perform. Musically, unmatched this year, and most years. Lol.
Really enjoyed Leander’s show and the hippies left with us who saw their show might have had a few flashbacks 😁.
This always happens after I watch a competition. Someone’s music going through my head. Today, it’s Rouse’s!!
Every year I am amazed at what levels these kids reach. Like after Hebron performed last night I saw someone post “This is a high school…this is a high school” . Truly incredible!!

Last night was my first dose of Hebron this season, and their musical performance was undeniably on another level. That band is a powerhouse!
I think Cedar Ridge deserves a ton of respect for their show and their return to the finals. They punched above their weight for a top 6 finish, and the band looked to be half the size of any of the other 4A bands.(are band member counts posted anywhere?)

I've had All That Jazz stuck in my head today.
Also, I think it would be really cool if we created a database of band sizes.

Awesome job Rouse!! Please please please come to GN soon…or at least St. Louis! I go to Rouse and there's some (student) speculation we'll be there in a couple years.

Definitely need to see Rouse up in Indianapolis. Cedar Park needs to make their return as well, they haven't been in Indianapolis since 2016.

Now I'm wondering which Texas bands are planning on attending GN next year. Maybe Cedar Park and Leander? Cedar Ridge went in 2013 and hasn't returned. But maybe their finish this season may change that. Keller last went in 2015 and could do some serious damage with a stronger show design. Maybe Westwood or James Bowie as well.

I have no inside information, but I would suspect Keller will go the next time it isn't a UIL State year. I'm not sure if that will be next year or 2023 given the adjustment to the state schedule we had this year.

I’m always extremely hesitant for a band to go to nationals the year right after a big success, it’s not a good idea. Bands need room to breathe a bit after a big break and immediately going to nationals doesn’t give the band any time to settle. Vandegrift did it best by allowing the band time to mature and grow into their status before making the trip and it was a great idea. Coppell did something similar with not immediately going to nationals and leaving the program to grow with a St.Louis trip; which as we saw last Saturday absolutely paid off. I think Cedar Park is in a good position to go though, they’ve been pushing back their trip since 2017. In a 2016 interview I believe their director said they’d like to be there every 2 years. In 2018 and 2019 low placements lead to them pushing the trip back a bit, and it just kept getting pushed back.

Hello all- As a Leander High School band parent- I have heard of no talk of Grand Nats anytime soon. I am sure they will go but I do not think it will be next year. I could be wrong. It is rather expensive and our directors do a good job in letting us know of future expenses like this. This year LHS band is going to Midwest and that was our as parents big expense this time around.

I want to say thank you all to those who have been posting. I have enjoyed reading and learning so much. My youngest is a junior so I have one more year of being a band parent. it is a great secret world. You all are so supportive and the shows are amazing. I will admit I probably will sneak in a few shows after the kiddo is off and in college somewhere.

We're in the same district (in case the username didn't give it away), so I've seen your show many times this season, and I absolutely LOVE it. Honestly, one of my favortie shows this season. And you guys nailed it every time.

I want to add this as well. Every, single band that was in the finals was just exceptionally talented. Every one of them. I sometimes see a lot of competitiveness on these and other boards, and these kids just really aren't about that. I really only see that among parents. I have been involved in all of this for a lot of years, and I have never once seen a director or a band kid upset at a result. In fact, they are usually ecstatic for the band that DID win. They are all about performing and having fun, which is the way it should be. There is a comraderie between these kids, directors, and programs that is palpable. And a lot of parents could really learn from that.

Hebron went in 2019, so they will likely go again in 2023 assuming COVID hasn't messed the rotation up. The Lewisville ISD bands go every four years on the non-state years, so Marcus and Flower Mound go together while Hebron goes on their own.

Marcus always planned to go to Nats this year, but FloMo is on a three year rotation as opposed to the “other” two LISD bands: 2014, 2017, and 2020 was their original idea.

Hebron has broken the first part of the curse by winning BOA San Antonio. It's time for them to finish the job and win UIL State now. and so they did. 🥰

So now they and Marcus are on the same timeframe
