At this point it feels like what should be common sense -don’t trash one band to make another look good in comparison- isn’t anymore. Kind of lose a little bit of faith in humanity every time I see a comment like this. All I can think is they are a troll… Internet rule no. 1 don’t feed the troll

Hi there! First competition year band parent here. When they announce bands for Semis will we know how they placed? Or is it announced in no particular order?

Random order with class advancements going first I think Camdenton was a class rep and announced 31st in 2018. I believe it’s entirely random

I figured that person was a troll after they made their name “brownsvillefan” minutes after mobster69 called Brownsburg “brownsville”.
How do we even get trolls here? On a geeky marching band forum? I guess they truly are everywhere 😦

I am sure this has already been asked but exactly how many make it into semi finals? Just 30 or do ties play a factor etc? Also, does the top scoring half play in the last 15 slots? I've been attending nationals since 2005 and never really thought about it....TY!

I’m so, so proud of Missouri bands today. Nixa and Hollister in particular were fantastic and I really hope they keep coming back because they’re so incredibly close to making it into semifinals. Neosho has improved so much from the last time they were here, and Mark Twain has so much ahead of them for the program to grow and mature into. And of course, Blue Springs is stunning as always! These bands make me so proud to be from a little town in Missouri and they represented our state so fantastically well. Keep being amazing, bands!

I've been attending nationals since 2005 and never really thought about it....TY! (A) The top 11 scores from each judging panel automatically qualify for semifinals. (B) After that, the next highest eight scores (regardless of panel) qualify. (C) Finally, the Top 2 bands from each class in each panel must advance: if they are not part of the Top 30, they are added here. The bands from Group C always perform first at Semifinals. The Top 30 bands are ranked in order of score, regardless of panel or class. The bottom eight bands of the Top 30 get the four performance spots after the Group C bands, and the last four performance spots in Semifinals. The Top 22 get the 22 middle performance spots in between those.

Basically: Top 11 per panel Next 8 Class reps - two per panel per class Slotted: Top 22 overall 9:15-3 Next 8 8-9 and 3-4 Class reps before 8. Edit: I was trying to be brief and I still got scooped!!

Idk if it's just me but right now I have Avon and BA solidly above Carmel and then just hair above Flomo. FloMo's winds seemed quite a bit raspier than I'd expect from them, and their run in general seemed low-energy. Probably a morning thing.

It's just you Prelims were outstanding by all the big hitters for sure, its going to be a superb saturday night, and whomever wins, will have really earned it, cause honestly, any of them in say the top 6-7 could win, its that good of a field, and it might be even a deeper field than Im suggesting. and while it is a competition, and someone has to win, lets just enjoy what these kids and programs provide us, cause its amazing

I've been attending nationals since 2005 and never really thought about it....TY! The top 11 from each panel, plus the 8 top scoring bands regardless of panel advance. Then, if a class is not represented in the top 30, enough of the next highest scoring bands of their class from either panel advance to make it even. The top 22 perform in the middle of the day and are flanked by the next 8. The reps go first early in the morning. My senior year we had 37 bands advance.

FloMo's winds seemed quite a bit raspier than I'd expect from them, and their run in general seemed low-energy. Probably a morning thing. I think it was more of just a morning thing, FloMo usually has amazing winds. I think they'll probably be able to crack above Avon and/or BA tmrw, but Avon I particular had an amazing run. Rn for prelims I have (This isn't what I expect finals to look like btw, but some bands definitely had better runs than others) 1. Avon (Vis?) 2. BA 3. FloMo -------------- 4. CTJ 5. Carmel ----------- 6. Reagan 7. Woodlands 8. Marcus ------------ 9. Blue Springs 10. Vista Ridge 11. William Mason 12. DB or Wando

During UIL State Box5 did a (free) livestream on YouTube of the awards and announcements. Does anyone know of that's happening / BoA allowing it?

Yes if you look on their YouTube page you'll see a scheduled Livestream for prelims awards at 8:00 tonight. I'm thankful they've been doing this for the entire season
