I’m curious about each programs designers and arrangers. We’ve heard of a couple of famous names and I’m interested in seeing which groups contract which designers.
Maybe we could get a list going.

I know FJM and by association Cartwright is a big name with a lot of known groups like Broken Arrow, Rosemount and Brownsburg working with them!

Flower Mound -Program Coordinator: Alan Spaeth -Arranger: Wayne Downey -Drill Design: Mitch Rogers Hebron -Program Coordinator: Justin Sullivan -Arranger(s): Michael Martin, Dave Glyde, Kevin Ronan -Drill Design: Jamey Thompson
One group that I can find nothing for is Marcus. Not too surprising on that account.

Camdenton HS, MO (as of the 2021 season):
- Show designer: Wes Cartwright - Music arrangement: Jim Wunderlich, Carol Chambers - Drill: Leon May
Seeing as Camdenton uses Wes, I’m pretty sure they are continuing to use Jordan Lalama for body movement, although I don’t believe they use Sarah Rillo for color guard dance choreography anymore (I would guess it’s done in-house by Lauren Risner, but I could be wrong). There was a music arranger that Camdenton used to use quite frequently in the past (notably 2017 and 2018) but I can’t recall his name at the moment and I’m not having much success with googling it.

This will forever fascinate me! I wish it was easier to collect it all just to see how much is shared. I think it's interesting data. I started to compile a list of drill writers just for Indiana. A lot of repeaters just there and I couldn't even find information for everyone!

Alan Spaeth really made a name for himself when he was the designer for PCEP in the late 90s/early 2000s. He was the brainchild behind 99 PCEPs Thoughtcrime. I have also really enjoyed what he has done with Flower Mound in recent years.

Seeing as I don't typically miss a chance to take us all back to the earlier years of competitive marching bands, I will fill you all in on some tidbits.
Back in the 1960s and 1970s, much of the drill designs were done by either the band director or a local drill writer. Drill designs were much less complex in those days. As show design evolved into more intricate and faster paced drill moves during the 1980s, the concept of a professional show designer really took off. As you would expect, most of these designers also worked heavily with drum corps. There were some notable marching band directors that had the talent to design more complex shows; Greg Bimm of Marian Catholic being the most notable. Al Castronovo was director and designer of Chesterton IN during their early 1980s glory years. Some notable designers that emerged in the 1980s included the late Gary Czypinski (Rocky Mount NC, Northrop IN, Lake Park IL and other Midwest area bands) and the late Steve Brubaker (Westfield TX, Prospect IL, Plymouth Canton MI, Spring TX, and many many others). Those designers created what we have today, an entire industry in marching band and drum corps show design.

Are Wes, Jim, and Leon a package deal? Don’t they all three write/wrote for Broken Arrow, Brownsburg, Dobyns-Bennett, and Rosemount, I would assume if they are a package deal they would all three write for Prosper and William Mason but I have no idea who all Wes designs for. I know Jim wrote Bridgeland’s show I believe?

They’ve been a package deal for a lot of groups in the past…but that may not be the case any more. 🤷🏼♀️ So much has changed in the band design world since I made this post!

Broken Arrow, Bentonville, Bixby, Jenks, Mustang and Rosemount with Vento designs (listed on the Vento design webpage as clients) Seems that there’s a pull from Wes Cartwright to Vento?

These are all past clients. Broken Arrow’s new designer is unknown, but Steve worked with them many years ago. Not saying they aren’t working with the Ventos this year, but I haven’t heard anything to confirm or deny. Bentonville has been and will always be with Wes Pendergrass. Bixby is with Dan Morrison as of this year. Mustang and Rosemount are both still with Cartwright. I have no idea who coordinates for Jenks, but I do not think it’s the Ventos.

I have no idea who coordinates for Jenks, but I do not think it’s the Ventos. Randy Greenwell has been with Jenks since the late 2000s, but I don't think he serves them in the same capacity these days, especially since he was a judge at Bedford last year.
