After seeing Mill Creek I think they’re a finals lock but I’m not so sure on top half. They have a lot of issues visually and some overblowing in the brass That may be true. I thought they sounded pretty good but I was only listening. John Champe has some vis issues. If they’re in finals it’s probably the back half.

I remember spring ford being so much bigger They were. There were at about 90 total members today. They used to number somewhere closer to 150 pre-pandemic. They are also one of the bands I was alluding to in the rankings poll on eastern bands, but we'll see where things shake out later today. John Champe is another one. The school split seems to really have done a number on them, unfortunately. I believe at one point they were at nearly 200 winds and are now fielding approximately 70.

Trumbull is great, they are outperforming bands much bigger than them. Hoping they get a second run because I enjoyed that a lot

Trumbull is doing a wonderful job working with what they have, especially considering they have 10 total brass and ~34 winds on the field. They are fielding 70 total members this year so they continue to suffer some membership setbacks post-pandemic, but this year they have made some smart design choices allowing them to showcase a band of their size properly. Some smart drill design choices and framing the field in a way that doesn't make the performance space seem too congested.

What's great is Lightridge has grown in size I think somewhere around 185-192 member and grew in power what a great run today compared to their 2021 show.

James Madison’s show is like if you combined Fishers 2019 and PCEP shows of the last few years

Loving this candide ballad, it’s a shame the flute soloist mic wasn’t working

Yeah James Madison is definitely leading my rankings so far, that’s a really fun show. I’m not usually a drum person but the Watermelon Sugar High drum break was really cool

Fort Mill has great moments sprinkled throughout the show, it’s just awkwardly paced. So far though them and James Madison have been the two best.

Was the whole electronics system not working for fort mill… ouch It wasn’t working for the oboe soloist, but it started working for the saxophone soloist I think?

Yeah lots of little tears too with the battery, a pretty big one in the ballad.

It will be interesting to see them in person tonight. Electronics issues aside, I agree. I can't quite put my finger on what it is, but something just feels strange. It's almost like the show is pulling stylistic elements from both 1990 and 2022 simultaneously. Undecided on whether I think that's a good thing or a bad thing, just an observation. I think they performed well enough to do well here. It also does feel strange to see a band of their size confined to such a small portion of the feel. They never really gave anyone space in the drill given how much room they had to work with. It just felt so ... restrained?

Baldwinsville was a pleasure. I've thought for years that they were the most BOA-ready band in NY (and really, most of the Northeast), and was wondering when they were going to give it a shot. They're much smaller than they have been in past years (pandemic decrease likely exacerbated by the director change), but they still put on a heck of a production. I could see this show doing well today.

That's a lock for Independence. Another new school that is dominating over past BOA finalist. Amazing run.

Kiski is going to be dangerous at GN. The swing flags at the end are perfect and make the guard look massive. Overall just a fantastic show.

I misspoke. I meant scholastic open. To be fair, they absolutely belonged in world class 100%. While their content may not have been as difficult as the top ~10 of world class, their technique and command of their weapons was only matched by a few of the top world guards, IMO. I'm very pleasantly surprised by them this year. This may be the strongest Kiski we've seen in a decade.
