Just saw on FloMarching that they are (finally!) going to be streaming this event live! Y’all are definitely going to want to watch this one. Four of the six Texas bands heading to Indy this fall will be competing in Austin. You absolutely won’t want to miss it. Didn’t they livestream the Austin regional last year, too? Could’ve sworn I remember watching it... in any case, fantastic news! I’m a big dummy. But still...you guys WATCH!

Finalist tiers (in ABC order) and class predictions. I’m not sure what class Johnson H.S. will be in, but I would assume A or AA since they are a new school.

I’m not saying that Vista won’t make second or even first in 4A class, just that Vandegrift is usually hotter early in the season and Vista Ridge is more of a slow burn. And just what if Rouse took the second spot in 3A? 😱

This one is coming up quickly! Less than two weeks away. Will CTJ win for the third straight year or will one of the Leander ISD schools take it back?
Edit: The Leander ISD schools in this one are Cedar Park, Leander, Rouse, Vandegrift and Vista Ridge.

Likely either CTJ, Leander, Vandegrift or Vista Ridge. I am sure it will be close. My big question is how y'all get so good down there practicing in that heat.

And this summer has been particularly brutal since late July. Over 50 days in the 100s so far and they are still predicting 3 or 4 more in the next week. It’s FALL as of tomorrow, yet here we sit....baking in the heat. I feel for those kids and I truly don’t know how they do it. Especially in full uniform!

I wonder if it is merely coincidence that each block has 1 band that is going to GNats?

Prediction based on having seen at least part of the shows for:
Claudia Taylor Johnson H.S.,Leander H.S., Vandegrift H.S., Vista Ridge H.S., Round Rock H.S., Cedar Park H.S.
CTJ - they should take GE and maybe Music at Austin.
...but I haven’t seen anything recent for the Austin bands so take it with a grain of salt. Love Leander using Brittney! Cedar Park looks great and Vandy is Vandy - they sound fabulous!

Betting against CTJ winning usually is not the right approach generally speaking, but anyone of those bands could pull ahead for the victory. Still haven’t seen enough of each to get a good feel but I have a feeling they will be back and fourth all the way to GN. Leander’s show intrigues me the most because of the music they are playing. Vandegrift is awesome but their guard situation may keep them from pulling ahead of this pack.

Of course.. and I saw CTJ recently so I’m really not comparing them at the same point of show development. Gnats is certainly in the reach of Leander or Vandy as well as CTJ and Hebron. Avon looks good too.

Speaking of CTJ, how do people feel about them doing a sequel to their 2017 show? Apparently some of the music they play this year is nearly identical to the music they played in 2017. Something about that feels wrong to me, but I'd love to hear what the rest of you think.
Also, for the record, I absolutely LOVE CTJ 2017. I think it's one of the best shows of this era. I hope CTJ brings that same magic this year!

This show completely stands alone and it will be remembered that way. Sequel Schmequel. This show is fantastic.

There is a snippet of music from the 17 show but that’s it.

I actually feel like the CTJ show this year is similar to the 17 show but in tasteful ways. The repeated piece is arranged in what almost feels like an A' version of the 17 show music, some melodies sound unmistakably familiar in the beginning and then take a right turn where the original arrangement took a left. The opening hit and ballad are completely different pieces but hold a very similar structure and emotional impact to the 17 show opener and ballad (at least to me). sequel shows are definitely not new to the BOA scene and in my opinion the can be very hit or miss. I'd say this one is a hit.
side note: the "I just cant wait to be king" section immediately puts me in a good mood, really effective writing.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the weather for tomorrow looks like it could be similar to last year. The good news is that the best chance of storms will be in the morning and it's only a 40% chance, with the Afternoon and Finals looking much better weatherwise. I would expect a condensed prelims and finals schedule, similar to last year, but it hopefully it won't come to that.

Yeah, I'll believe the whole rain thing when I see it. It's been nearly 60 days now without measurable rain. Of course, it IS typical for BOA Austin to have random rain, so it wouldn't totally surprise me!
