okay well i'll throw my hat in next 1. Vandegrift - We all know it's gonna happen 2. Cedar Ridge - They were so close to winning last year, I think they'll be even closer but still barely shy 3. Vista Ridge - I think they'll start even stronger than last year as they continue to redefine themselves from 2021 4. Cedar Park - They sound too good and look too clean to be any lower, I'm not a huge fan of their show this year but man 5. Round Rock - I could see them higher but they seem to peak later than others 6. Rouse - Huge bias (obviously) but trust me when I say we are doing significantly better than last year 7. Westlake - Another late peaker but amazing group nonetheless 8. Leander - Leander is the latest peaker I know, They can put 14 points at the end of the season like its nothing! 9. James Bowie - Did you guys know they have a parking garage at their school?? Fr though they're gonna be gooood this year 10. MG Johnson - I have a lot of faith in them, I know they lost their VE director but they new guy seems more then qualified to continue. 11. Hendrickson - Trainlapse was awesome, I'm really excited for their show this year 12. Westwood - my mom went to westwood, love them I could see this happening

The good news for the Ranger band is that they sound incredible and the music is catchy. The meh news is the visual program is pretty void of difficulty, and tbh none of the visual moments feel very standout except for the opening set - yet. it is still early so I will wait for full analysis.
The Cedar Ridge show feels very piecemealed. The jazzy opener, the lush ballad (with odd staging IMO) and then the 80s breakout section; idk that combo is a tough sell as one package that maybe only Hebron could pull off. It's early and they sound good enough, but part of what made last year so compelling was the continuity of music informing the gargoyle theme, which here just seems a little lost in the theming.

I don't have any particularly solid predictions at the moments, and I feel like if I committed to any I'd be wrong, but as an alum, as much as I want them up there, I could see Cedar Ridge being out of the top three. I think they're performing at a super high level, comparable to last year. I just think there's some or ironing out that needs to happen with some of the show, and maybe a more clear theme established throughout, similar to last year!
It should also be noted, I have only seen the show in it's pared down, football game version, so there's a non-zero chance a lot of stuff has already been ironed out and fixed, or is being worked on right now!
My hope is to see them medal again, because it'd be awesome to see Cedar Ridge solidify itself as one of those consistent high level programs. I definitely think all of the ingredients are there for it to happen as well! The students are so passionate, and I'm glad that having yet another head director change is something they seem to be adjusting to well.

I personally like their show, and I think once it is coming off as more of a production (which I expect it will at a contest vs. a football game version), it might incite more excitement. Can't wait!

If those old enough, endured Les Mis every other show in late 80s/early 90's, we can handle Fly To Paradise!

I could see this happening This seems likely. Wild as a non-texan that Hendrickson could be in Grand Nats finals and be at the bottom of this regional. the 7th placed band at GN missed out of finals at the Bedford regional and didn’t get out of their area for UIL state as well. Things happen👀👀

Some develop more than others and it's not specific to any state, although Texas has so many strong programs that it's easier to find an example. An example from elsewhere is William Mason in 2011. They were 6th in prelims and 5th in finals at an October 1 regional and made GN finals for the first time six weeks later.

Most definitely, with the short sample size of competitions, it’s tough to predict how a band can do at their end of their season from their early season results, whether there’s further stagnation, or something for the group clicks. Unless you have access to every rehearsal in the final weeks, it’s tough to see where a band can be right at the end!

Good Morning McCallum - I’m wide awake now!
That opener was so fun, and had a lot of really cool full ensemble visual moments. I always am so impressed by the bands that can show up SO EARLY and throw down like that. Great performance!!

As an Illinoisan who doesn't like the heat at all...how the heck are y'all dealing with 97 in the back half of September!? Feel bad for the kids marching in the middle of the day on a turf field.

The kids are loving the turf. It's 20-40 degrees cooler than the practice blacktops they have been practicing on for 2 months

That Rouse show is a GE factory. I’ve thought this since I accidentally ran into a very-early exclusive clip. It’s gonna be a monster come 5A state if they fix their pacing issues.
