I'm late to watching this but it definitely stands well against the competition. I'm not seeing them above Camdenton, but considering the latter has a history of being unpredictable I'm not entirely counting it out. I'd have to see a big leap up in visual. It sounds like they're tailoring their show towards BOA for this season, so I imagine we'll see some flashier presentation. I'll try a shot-in-the-dark tierlist: Lincoln HS, SD Rosemount HS, MN ------------------------- Camdenton HS, MO (they've beaten Rosemount in the recent past, but I think there was a decent gap in quality the last year that keeps me away from putting them in the above tier). Eastview HS, MN Pella HS, IA ------------------------- Blue Valley Southwest HS, KS Independence HS, IA, should they attend Bellevue East HS, NE Davenport Central HS, IA MOC-Floyd Valley HS, IA ------------------------- Rock Island HS, IL Northwest HS, IA Blue Valley West HS, KS Buhler HS, KS Dowling Catholic HS, IA Millard North HS, NE, should they attend Millard South HS, NE Past that... I'll need to do some more research Here’s where you’re wrong: KIDDING! I am trying to be better about this. 🤓 It's called a shot in the DARK for a reason! Just when I thought I had no more skin in the game...one of the high schoolers at my day job is a band kid. So I get to stress about my ol' high school band for a little bit longer 😥

Rock Island HS, IL Northwest HS, IA Blue Valley West HS, KS Buhler HS, KS Dowling Catholic HS, IA Millard North HS, NE, should they attend Millard South HS, NE That's quite a cluster for the final two (if Independence attends) or three finals spots based on your tiers.

I'm not even really looking at placements, just putting together who I can see together. These are really wide lists that I didn't put a crazy amount of thought into – considering how different Independence's placements were between 19 and 22, I'm not making any solid predictions until we actually see these bands

Hate to be that guy, But Valley is a 10-12th schools with around 2K so they should be Class AAAA. I think they are the only 4A band in Iowa. They would need to have their new sophomore class to be less than 81% of their 2022 senior class numbers (692 students) so the new influx of sophomore need to 130 students to constitute to be in Class AAA.

Exactly two months until this contest! It's time for very early predictions. Rather than going through the headache of trying to guess placements, I'm making the predictions tier-based and in alphabetical order.
It almost goes without saying that Lincoln and Rosemount will be our top 2 here. It's 3-5 that gets tricky. While I'm of the mind that Camdenton will almost certainly take the bronze, if Pella has a BOA-centric show design, I think they could wipe the floor with them and Eastview. They have all the ingredients to do well here, it will just depend on the show they bring.
I think we will see Bellevue West, Blue Valley Southwest and Davenport Central all perform twice here, and I anticipate things will be very close between all three groups. Bellevue West has always been solid, and both BVSW and DC have been on the upswing the last few years.
Rounding out the bottom of finals could be bands like Bellevue East, Blue Valley West, Eden Prairie and MOC-Floyd Valley, all very solid groups, and two of which whom performed here last season and made finals pretty easily. Eden Prairie, while not what they once were, are still very good given their size and I am excited to see them make their reappearance at a BOA show.
Medalist Contenders (1-3): Camdenton H.S., MO Lincoln H.S., SD Rosemount H.S., MN ---------- Finals Locks (4-8): Eastview H.S., MN Pella H.S., IA ---------- Bellevue West H.S., NE Blue Valley Southwest H.S., KS Davenport Central H.S., IA ---------- Finals Bubble (9-14): Bellevue East H.S., NE Blue Valley West H.S., KS Eden Prairie H.S., MN MOC-Floyd Valley H.S., IA ---------- Independence Jr./Sr. H.S., IA Northwest H.S., IA ---------- Everyone Else (15-21): Dowling Catholic H.S., IA Lake Park H.S., IL Limestone Community H.S., IL Millard South H.S., NE Omaha Burke H.S., NE Rock Island H.S., IL Valley H.S., IA
A: Pella H.S., IA AA: Camdenton H.S., MO AAA: Lincoln H.S., SD AAAA: Eden Prairie H.S., MN

No college exhibtion bands which is unfortunate but not surprising. Both Iowa and Northern Iowa have home footballs games that weekend and Iowa State is giving their members that weekend off (they'll be doing an exhibition 2 weeks later either at Mid-Iowa or Youth in Music).

Pretty good draw for the Rock Island Rocks (yes, that is their school nickname), who I think will be in finals, not so much for Lake Park.

Just watched Lincoln's performance via their homecoming football livestream. Audio for the stream was not the best quality, but visually I'm liking what I'm seeing. I'm gonna reserve making a final prediction until I can get a good read on Rosemount (via their football stream next Thursday).
The small snippets of Camdenton I've seen have me intrigued. Unfortunately haven't been able to see much from their football livestreams since their announcers do their halftime debrief during the show.
Pella, I think, is going to turn some heads here. Their show, musically at least, is giving me Lincoln 2017 vibes.

Still haven’t seen it but have heard it’s a very visual-heavy program. I haven’t heard any music since July band camp. I’m really interested in seeing how they match up against Rosemount and Pella (especially with all of the hype I’ve seen for the latter on here!)

They play well, but from a design standpoint, it took five whole minutes for a dynamic level softer than forte to be performed by anyone.

OK, I saw a video of Lincoln's homecoming performance that had better audio quality. Lincoln is going to be fine. I'm still reluctant to make a full finals prediction until I see Rosemount, but they should safely medal here.

OK, with all the knowledge I have as well as the knowledge I don't possess, here are my final predictions that I'm going to lock in for this regional. 1. Rosemount H.S., MN 2. Lincoln H.S., SD 3. Camdenton H.S., MO 4. Eastview H.S., MN 5. Pella H.S., IA 6. Bellevue West H.S., NE 7. Blue Valley Southwest H.S., KS 8. MOC-Floyd Valley H.S., IA 9. Bellevue East H.S., NE 10. Davenport Central H.S., IA 11. Blue Valley West H.S., KS 12. Northwest H.S., IA A: Pella H.S., IA AA: Camdenton H.S., MO AAA: Rosemount H.S., MN AAAA: Eden Prairie H.S., MN My Reasoning:
This past weekend was, in the words of yayband914 , the spiciest weekend we've had in awhile, and I believe that spice is going to carry-over into next weekend. My thoughts:
Having finally seen Rosemount, and with the results of the past weekend, they are the only ones I can confidently say are guaranteed to medal. High Brass is still a bit of a weak spot, as it has been the last couple years, but their woodwinds are as immaculate as ever. Design-wise, it is textbook Wes. And with all the first time winners we got this past weekend, I think it's time for Rosemount to get their due and finally win a Regional Championship after coming oh so close here in 2019. I'm not gonna lie, I was/still am concerned for Lincoln following the results of Pursuit of Excellence. I wasn't at Marshall, but was at their halftime show this past Friday, and just by looking at photos posted by the band, there were visual/aesthetic differences between Friday Night & Saturday Night. Last night's showing, visually, was more in line with their homecoming performance last week. Friday Night was something different, and I'm a bit puzzled as to why they didn't go with the updated visuals last night (though the weather may have forced their hand on that). Still, I imagine what I saw Friday Night is going to be what we see here, and if it is and they clean it up this week in rehearsals, I think they'll still be fine. Honestly, Camdenton might just be the biggest wildcard of the coming weekend. Again the snippets I've heard sound good (It's an Elton John tribute show apparently?) and I'm excited to see what they're bringing to the table. Eastview's show, I have not yet seen, but I'm very excited to finally see. Photos I've seen of them have given me Troopers vibes. Regarding Pella, I also echo yayband914 's concerns about how they'll be recieved from a GE standpoint, but I still think they'll impress in their first regional. It might just be me, but the vibes of their pre-show and their uniforms reminds me a lot of Tarpon Springs last year. Everyone else I've listed, I feel pretty confident that's how it will play out. The only other massive change I've made from my preseason predictions is putting Northwest in ahead of Eden Prairie. Eden Prairie's early season results have me a bit concerned on whether they'll make finals or not and I think it'll be tight battle between them and Waukee Northwest. That said, there is a chance we could see a Class AAAA finals exhibition this coming weekend. I'm very excited for this regional, but if the past weekend has taught me anything, it's to expect the unexpected. Anyway can't wait to revisit this after next weekend to see how wrong I am.

Short of Camdenton, I’ve seen most of these shows either in YouTube or live in competition. This will be an entertaining Regional with some of the shows real heavy on visuals. I will keep my thoughts on the specifics, but it’s not far from bigtrombone. Lastly I’m glad that this Regional has life with 21 bands competing this year. As long as it does not happen during some of the legacy competitions in MN and SD, I see this number growing. Already mentioned Brandon Valley SD, but also the other Sioux Falls bands (other than Lincoln). Lakeville South, and Farmington in MN will also be interesting in the coming years if they decide to go here. And then for previous bands like Irondale, Marshall, Grand Rapids could also make a come back.

Even if they are incorrect, it is so fun to see the speculation. Predictions are probably my favorite part of the forums. Well, when you put it that way… fine, maybe I will. 😊

Eastview

And since we're using Brandon Valley as a barometer, here's at Pursuit of Excellence
