Only five Indiana bands in their hometown Super is kind of bold even with Homestead gone! Same five that made it last year! (Goshen also made it last year, but I didn't see them on the confirmed list yet).

Deer Creek is having a massive shake up within their ranks, they may have some struggles this year.

Deer Creek is having a massive shake up within their ranks, they may have some struggles this year. Never fun to hear that! I hope they don't, but there are plenty of Oklahoma bands attending this year to take their spot! Mainly put Bixby and Deer Creek where I did optimistically. Bixby has been on a major upward trend the last few years, although their seasons seem to start stronger than they end. I think 4th is stretching it, but that's the fun in predictions! Deer Creek has also seen recent success, but I would be more than happy to see Union or even Choctaw in finals for that matter. I do think Union is pretty likely to make finals, but I put them right out just due to their recent inconsistencies. Going to be an exciting competition to see play out for sure!

I appreciate your enthusiasm for OK bands, and I do agree that a number of bands in the state (well down the ranks) are on the cusp of exploding onto the national scene and being able to disrupt just about any regional they attend. I have REALLY enjoyed every show Bixby has put out in the last few years - to me, they are almost unparalleled in creating shows that rally both student & parent buy-in - but wow has their success in OBA had trouble translating to BOA sheets. Sometimes it takes bands awhile to adjust to new sheets - SF Lincoln is really just now finding their footing in BOA - so I know Bixby will get there, and hopefully while maintaining their unique brand, like Lincoln has been able to. But a top half finish at this regional just seems way out of reach at the moment. I am quite thrilled they are attending, though, and really look forward to their continued success in BOA.

Updated Predictions Post-Oklahoma Invasion: 1-3 Range (Medalist Locks) ------------------ Carmel H.S., IN Avon H.S., IN William Mason H.S., OH 4-10 Range (Finals Locks, Could finish anywhere within this range) -------------------------- Brownsburg H.S., IN Bixby H.S., OK Fishers H.S., IN Lincoln H.S., SD Castle H.S., IN O'Fallon Township H.S., IL Lincoln-Way Community H.S., IL Upper Bubble ---------------------------- Southmoore H.S., OK Union H.S., OK Grain Valley H.S., MO Lakota West H.S., OH Yukon H.S., OK Center Grove H.S., IN Lower Bubble ------------------- Deer Creek H.S., OK Choctaw H.S., OK Lawrence Township, IN Kettering Fairmont H.S., OH Jasper H.S., IN Westfield H.S., IN I would appreciate feedback if you would like to give it. Obviously not complete until the full band listings come out. Centerville, if they are confirmed, I would also say is probably in the upper bubble for finals. Also coleeich FWIW, I think if Bixby had attended St. Louis last year they would've been up there around Bentonville, Lincoln, Mustang, & O'Fallon Township.

Might as well take a swing at some predictions for this Super Regional. Fair warning, competition is TIGHT this year, so these predictions are probably gonna be very, very wrong. (Also I added scores just for the fun of it)
1. Carmel 93.65 2. Avon 92.95 3. William Mason 91.80 4. Fishers 90.00 5. Brownsburg 89.85 6. Lincoln 88.40 7. Castle 88.18 8. O’Fallon Township 87.72 9. Bixby 86.50 10. Southmoore 85.75 11. Lincoln-Way 84.60 12. Union 83.25 13. Yukon 82.70 14. Lakota West 82.10
Vis: William Mason + Carmel Music: Carmel GE: Avon (yes you read that right)
FIRST OUT: Grain Valley 81.85
Would love to see William Mason stir up the top 3 and make a statement coming into this high-stakes year for marching competition, but I won’t get ahead of myself knowing that BOA giants Avon and Carmel will be the insane groups they are and maintain a tight grasp on this SR. Would also enjoy seeing someone take GE who doesn’t win 1st place. Avons GE has been higher than Carmels in recent times (just from my pov) and would like to see that rewarded. Pretty loose placements from 5th-9th, could see any of those bands jump up or fall down a bit. 10th below is where it gets interesting; Southmoore and Lincoln-Way will probably dance around each other with placements, and same goes for Union and Yukon (both Oklahoma groups are pretty evenly matched, at least in my opinion). I placed Lakota West above Grain Valley, but could easily see the two swap or have Choctaw take both of them out at once! Both Lakota’s have been on the rise in BOA for the past few years, and I know Grain Valley is a strong contender in any BOA competition they attend, so I look forward to seeing how it all plays out. Interested to hear your thoughts/critique on what I’m thinking for this SR!

It looks like Minooka Community, IL is a drop. Their Google calendar shows them attending University of Illinois 10/14 (originally a rehearsal) and 10/20-10/21 is now blank.

Only five Indiana bands in their hometown Super is kind of bold even with Homestead gone! Goshen probably won’t be at the SR; ISSMA semi-state is the same day and because of how scheduling is done for the Class A bands, the bands further out from Ben Davis, like Homestead, Goshen, and Penn, will perform in the back half of the block, making it impossible to get to Lucas Oil in time for a potential finals performance. It would be nice if ISSMA would randomize the scheduling this year, because certain bands are being ‘penalized’ (for lack of a better word) for their geographical location.

After years of those outlying bands stridently defending their late performance times because of travel distance they can suck it up and deal. And technically it is a random draw, they just weight it to benefit the outlying bands.

Maybe move it up to Fishers to allow the north bands less travel time? That doesn’t help a Castle, though. It’s just unfortunate that several bands are not being given a chance to do both events. Goshen had a great run at the SR last year and it would be nice for them to be able to build on that. Likewise, I think Homestead was the first band out last year and they would like to redeem themselves at the SR.

Always shot down by the outlying band directors. Guess they are getting a taste of their own medicine. Ultimately this isn’t an ISSMA Semi State scheduling issue. It is a BOA scheduling issue. October 13/14 is wide open. BOA should’ve scheduled Indy SR that weekend. And FYI…moving to Fishers saves Goshen 9 minutes of travel time…

Preseason Predictions Because Marching Band is Cool and I Can't Wait:
1. Carmel H.S., IN
2. Avon H.S., IN
3. William Mason H.S., OH
4. Fishers H.S., IN
5. Bixby H.S., OK 6. Brownsburg H.S., IN
7. O'Fallon Township H.S., IL
8. Yukon H.S., OK
9. Castle H.S, IN
10. Southmoore H.S., OK
11. Grain Valley H.S., MO
12. Lincoln-Way H.S., IL
13. Union H.S., OK 14. Deer Creek H.S., OK
I think that Carmel and Avon are both pretty much a lock for me (esp with carmels new brass staff)
William Mason, Fishers, Bixby, Brownsburg are in a range where they could over take each other but I dont see any of them falling out of this block without some serious catastrophic problems during the show.
O'Fallon Township, and I know.... Yukon... Look, Yukon looks to flip flop back and forth between huge success and a minor setback. They had a leadership change, inheriting another schools band staff: John Rivera and Sarah Workun (winners of the OK5A class championships the previous year) last year and competed at a BOA event for the first time ever (St. Louis) and made finals. That being all that I think they will be better adjusted to their new staff and have a far more productive season. (Didnt talk much about O'Fallon but I could feel myself getting flamed for Yukon pre-emptively)
Castle, Southmoore, Grain Valley, and Lincoln-Way have to be in finals in my opinion. I just don't a world where they arent somewhere in the mix
Union and Deer Creek, I just love the thought of an OK take over this year lol. As much as I'm rooting for my Indiana schools, I just think it'll be a fun time, and a rare site to see a state just come out of the ground at a contest like this. Very excited to see how competitive OK will be in the coming years.

Think we just found out why Indy Super and ISSMA Semi-State conflicts this year. Taylor Swift is playing in Indy 11/1-3, which was when state finals would've been.
