Anderson put that in their show as a tribute to the old Highland High School band?

When they closed Highland they merged a ton of the band features and traditions into Anderson HS. Anderson HS uses the Indian as a mascot, but the Anderson HS band is now called the Marching Highlanders.

So not a one off tribute, but a full time recognition of the history of the Highland HS marching band.

You would love New Jersey. We have a few bands that always play with bagpipes every year even West Milford HS have their own "The Pipes and Drum Corps." Governor Livingston HS Marching Highlanders is another band, and both are amazing bands with history of success locally and internationally back then and now. Another band I believe is Howell HS in Farmingdale, NJ.




West Milford band is going to Scotland & England this year.

Oh neat. I'd always wondered what they'd do with the band traditions as Highland in my time (mid to late 80s) was a legit presence on the field.  Then Anderson made one year and had their guard in miniskirts and headresses and even though we were pretty far from the days of really discussing cultural appropriation, it was enough to make people squirm.
