I'll try to post my thoughts to other performances tonight, but I am soooo so impressed with Santa Fe. Still on met tonight but the level at which they are playing and marching is phenomenal. I genuinely think if they keep this up, they could be in the conversation for top 5 and dare I say *maybe* a medal at OBA. But I am also a radical when it comes to predictions LOL.

Alright Southmoore I see you!
Very very impactful music! They’ve got this very distinct sound and I really can see all the work these kids have put into really making their music real!
Definitely a good bit of visual dirt, like many bands right now some of the forms are just not meshing but I’m sure that with time they we get all that cleaned up.
Truly an exceptional performance tonight, can’t wait to get my socks knocked off at MOMFest!

I posted this in the Indy thread, but I was impressed with Deer Creek. They’ve grown, again, and the design looks like it will help them develop. Almost reminds me of mid 2010’s Union design. Since they’ve performed in Lucas Oil, I think they’re on a great track for Indy.

This is strong for this early in the season. Great to see! They’ll definitely be positioned to medal at Owasso again. I love this type of music - very punchy. A great design for keeping everyone on the edge of their seats.

Some thoughts for your Saturday viewing pleasure!
Yukon: Visually, still some dirt but already better than last week. They seem to have more on the field than most other Oklahoma groups at this point (about 6 minutes of show), which gives me hope they will have plenty of time to get things cleaned before Indy. Still no props on the field but the ones they have assembled are really cool, and I think I noticed the students who are going to be pushing the props out there during the performance. If that was them, those props really are going to be moving a LOT!
Edmond North: They seem a little smaller this year, but their show is also already pretty developed. I think they have a really great chance at making OBA finals again, just based off where they are currently. I have yet to see Memorial yet this year, but I would probably put North over Memorial given that Memorial has had a recent director change. Time will tell! It will be nice to see how Memorial does at Deer Creek and how North does at Yukon!
Edmond Santa Fe: I already made my thoughts on them clear, but to me they are absolutely crushing the game already. Being on met still makes me a bit nervous, but it was also their first performance of the season. I expect great things from them again this year, and I absolutely have them in my top 6 for OBA currently.
Choctaw: Haven't seen a recent full run, but found a video of them playing Flight of the Bumblebee (I think it is their 3rd movement). Sounding pretty good already! I would be shocked if they miss OBA finals this year, and I think they have a pretty decent shot at Indy finals as well. Very impressive stuff!
Bixby: No recent videos that I have found, but I did watch their rehearsal this last Thursday. As usual, really innovative stuff coming from them. I think the prop use is going to be very interesting to see develop. Musically, they sound great! Bixby of late has been a group that peaks early in the season. They are absolutely on track to being pretty clean by Owasso, but hopefully they can manage to extend that peak through to the end of the season. Excited to see how this year goes for them.
Southmoore: The football livestream had no sound and I got nervous. Visually, another group with some dirt to clean up. I eventually found a video on YouTube, and I agree that the music is really something! I think if they can get the visual side figured out, they will have a great chance at Indy finals. Musically, sounding really really great!
Jenks: I dig their show. Still no props or anything, so (assuming they have props) once they are added, I think the production will start to come together! Some really cool parts. (For those wanting to watch, the Jenks live stream has no sound but good visual, the Union livestream has worse visual but good sound).
Piedmont: First time viewing them, and I didn't get to see the whole video before the livestream got taken down, but I think they are absolutely on the right track! They are setting themselves up to be a force in 6A next year. I haven't seen Coweta yet, but I think they have a shot at winning 6A OBA. Are they bigger this year than last year? They seemed like it to me. Not really a surprise considering how much that district is growing!
Owasso: Visually stunning! Still haven't heard the music, but should be a strong year for Owasso.
Looking forward to the first weekend of contests next week! If anyone has any other videos of groups not mentioned (or even of those mentioned), would love to see!

Yay OBA schedules! I've been excited to see these.
To my knowledge (and after a quick check), I don't think any of the Norman schools have ever attended OBA. If they have, it has been over 25 years since the last time. Exciting to see!

Glad to see that Edmond Memorial seems to be doing ok under the new director. I wish that met wasn’t so loud on stream, but I can live with it lol. They also seem to be on the smaller side of things this year, but that could be a symptom of where they had the camera. Also, Piedmont is making some nice progress! I’m being told that last night was the first time they ran all of what they know in one go, so props to them! I believe that’s 2/3 of the show on the field for them, but who knows what they’ll put on come OBA time!

Hello! Wanted to make a 6A OBA Prediction now and then make one closer to when OBA is.
1. Broken Arrow (21st in a row) 2. Mustang (Less money this year but still a fantastic hornline with cool visuals this year) 3. Bixby (Another phenomenal show i've seen so far) 4. Jenks (Doing Really well so far, excited to see a more current performance) 5. Yukon (Might get some hate on this one, but from the last few home games, I have reason to believe Yukon is going to be something special this season from a culture change and an excellent sound foundation being built) 6. Owasso (Another year, more cool sounds from them) 7. Edmond Sante Fe (Love their show and music but i've seen a trend of ESF tending to peak early in the season) 8. Southmoore (I Think they have a lot of good things going well so far, but I truly believe it won't be enough to beat these other schools above) 9. Union (not much too comment but I haven't seen much from them yet.) 10. Deer Creek (I believe they will do well this season too, just not up to the level of the top 8 groups) 11. Choctaw (Cool show from them, just think more room to improve as a program in the future) 12. Westmoore (Really cool show design I saw from them, love the Mary Poppins!)

If they can get their looks to match their sound they will be INSANE!

Some thoughts on the singular Oklahoma competition which took place yesterday: MOMFest
Purcell - Fun show! Mad World is one of those songs that just feels right in some marching shows, and this one was no different. Tuttle - I really enjoyed this one! Tuttle is absolutely a band I have my eyes on, they continue to improve each and every year. They are already and will continue to be a force in 4A. Woodward - Wow! I could be wrong, but I think they have their whole show on the field. They have so much time to clean and perfect before OBA. Putnam City West - They seem a lot bigger to me this year, which is awesome! Really liked the show, and I am sad we won't be seeing them at OBA this year. Charles Page - The face paint on the front ensemble was so fun! Del City - Cute show! Harrah - What a fun show! Nice combos of some old classics paired with a Holst favorite. This is another group I expect will continue to grow! Blanchard - I was really impressed by them! They've been pretty consistent these last few years, but I think they are in the convo for 4A state champ this year. Norman North - They are looking and sounding great! I am very excited for the future of this program. I've always thought the Norman schools have so much untapped potential, and I think in a few years they will be in the talks for OBA finals. Bartlesville - Another rapidly improving program to talk about! Their recent director changes starting to pay off. Watching them kind of feels like watching a younger Coweta lol. Expecting great things from them this year and in the future, and congrats on 3rd! Much deserved Southmoore - I had my doubts on how they were going to grow from last season's success...and they have done it! I really love their show, and I think we are going to be in for a treat come Indy SR time. The scores accurately reflect how I felt about them. Bravo! Guthrie - Such a cool show, and well executed too! I also really enjoyed their uniforms. Putnam City North - Fantastic! Westmoore - I mentioned this previously, but they are absolutely in the conversation for OBA finals. Such a fun and creative show. I also really enjoyed the body work. Very much will be keeping my eye on them this season! Moore - The masks are so cool. They give me SCV Babylon vibes. And dang they sound good! Nice to see Moore doing well.

Also, here's my *somewhat* pre-season 6A OBA predictions! Like I've seen some others doing, I will post these now (with only MOM Fest having passed) and for sure predictions again right before OBA. I may do another set somewhere in the middle, but no promises there. I also plan to do predictions for the other OBAs, but I don't have nearly enough info to do that right now. I will also give ranges of where I could see these bands falling along with a short description.
1. Broken Arrow H.S., OK - Yeah, likely going to be another BA victory! Although, part of me wonders if there's a chance that BA has a bit of a down year (since they are going to be going to only one other contest). Maybe this will be the year one of the other bands snags the crown? 1-2 range. 2. Mustang H.S., OK - From what I've seen, they look and sound fantastic. I am really excited to see what they produce this year. 1-4 range. 3. Bixby H.S., OK - I think these next few years we are really going to see a renaissance with Bixby. With their BOA attendance this year, I expect a great showing from them. Always so innovative! 1-5 range. 4. Jenks H.S., OK - Another strong group this year, I expect great things from them! Just as easily could see them in the 2-5 range. 5. Edmond Santa Fe H.S., OK - I have made my thoughts about ESFHS very clear on this forum. They continue to raise the bar each year. They have had a steady climb up the OBA ladder the last few years, and I truly expect they will continue that climb this year. 4-7 range. 6. Owasso H.S., OK - A bit of a wild card. They play so well, but *sometimes* their shows have less production value than some of the other top bands. Could see them in the 3-7 range. 7. Union H.S., OK - I think Union is back! They are different than before, but I am really liking what I am seeing from them so far. 5-9 range. 8. Southmoore H.S., OK - Southmoore also raised the bar this year from last year's successful season! I enjoy their show so much, and I am excited to see it develop over the next few weeks. 8th feels low, but the competition is steeper than it's been in a long time! Probably think they will hit the 7-9 range. 9. Yukon H.S., OK - Another wild card for me. Like others have said, their sound is pretty insane this year. They are on the dirtier side right now visually which is why I am holding off on putting them any higher currently, but if they get that cleaned up, I think they could potentially break the top 6. I give them 6-10 range. 10. Choctaw H.S., OK - I seem to be the only one hyping them up after last season's shock in missing OBA finals, but I am seriously very impressed with them. I never was fully on board with their show last season like I was in 2021, but this year's group reminds me of how I felt about them in 2021. TBH, I think 10 is too low for them, but I will hold off until we've seen some scores to put them higher. I think they are also 6-10 range. 11. Deer Creek H.S., OK - I think in the next 5 years, Deer Creek will be knocking on the doors of the top 6. I am impressed by their show this year (just like I have been the last two years). 9-13 range. 12. Westmoore H.S., OK - They have a really fun show this year. I don't think it is the cleanest out of the bubble bands, but I think the GE might sneak them into finals. 11-14 range me thinks. --------------- 13. Edmond North H.S., OK - They have a lot of show on and thus have a lot of time to clean. Not the most "oh wow" show ever, but I think good enough to be potentially in finals. 12-15 range. 14. Stillwater H.S., OK - I have not seen anything from them, but they have been in finals a decent amount the last few years. I am absolutely not counting them out! 12-15 range. 15. Edmond Memorial H.S., OK - Again, could just as easily see them in finals. New director this year, which is what is making me put them in 15th. The one performance I've seen was pretty solid though, so 15th might be a little low. 12-15 range as well! 16. Bartlesville H.S., OK - Very much on the rise! They had a great showing at MOM Fest this weekend. I think next year they will truly be in the conversation for finals. 12-16 range. 17. Moore H.S., OK - I liked what I saw this past weekend! A really cool show design. 14-18 range. 18. Norman North H.S., OK - They are ABSOLUTELY on an uphill trend. I don't know if they got a new director or what, but the fact that they are attending OBA for the first time ever is testament to the fact that they mean business! 16-19 range. 19. Putnam City North H.S., OK - I don't have much to comment here. They are decent but I don't really see them much higher than 19th this year due to the thick competition. 19-20 range. 20. Tahlequah H.S., OK - This group has been somewhat successful the last few years, but a recent director change might muddy the waters a bit. I see 18-20 range. 21. Muskogee H.S., OK - They had such a cute show last year, and they are bigger this year. I just don't see them higher currently, but I would love them to prove me wrong! 20-21 range.
I also want it to be known that, to me, there are essentially 11 locks for this competition (the top 11 I have listed here). I think there are 4 really strong bands fighting for that 12th place spot (Edmond North, Edmond Memorial, Westmoore, and Stillwater). Not to mention, Moore and Bartlesville are both looking strong as well. In a less competitive field, I think they could both make finals, but I just don't know if it is in the cards for them this year. But with that being said, Bartlesville is VERY much on the rise and Piedmont will be joining the battle next year. In the past, I feel like the number of finals "locks" has been about 7-8. But like I said, I see 11 this year, and next year, I think that there may be 17-18 bands that have genuine shots at finals. Not to mention Norman North bursting onto the scene! The field gets thicker and thicker every year, and I think this steep competition is just going to drive Oklahoma bands to excel each and every year. Gosh it's such an exciting time for band in Oklahoma!

Agree with pretty much all of this, but I think Yukon will be a lot higher for me after seeing them at their invitational, also I’ve heard they will do an exhibition performance before and after the contest so that could give us an idea, also they will have their full show ready by then. They do tend to clean a lot visually during September so it will be cool to see where they are at.

OBA 6A Predictions Post-DC Contest: This Deer Creek contest really created some craziness for the future to come of this season, especially with my new thoughts on Mustang and Edmond Memorial, as well as Deer Creek themselves.
(Shows ranking comparison to my previous week)
1. Broken Arrow (Same) All that is known is their show is entitled, "Timeless Journey", will be excited to see their show asap. 2. Bixby (Up 1) Bixby seems to continue to improve like they have been, can't wait to hear them this Saturday. 3. Jenks (Up 1) Similar story to Bixby, just a little less imo. 4. Mustang (Down 2) After tonight, I believe Mustang is going to drop due to a lack of visual and musical cleaning, wasn't bad at all but not up to the level I expected for now, especially if they wanted to make 2nd place. Mustang isn't out but requires some serious cleaning if they want to get closer to BA. Feels just too slow of progress for me. 5. Yukon (Same) Seeing Yukon next Saturday at their invitational will tell the world if we will see a breakthrough from them, because they tend to be a group who shows up later in the season with a clean show, and peaks later than most. But I have lots of reason to believe from attending some of their performances and rehearsals as a spectator they are gonna have something special this season, from crazy props and visual effect, only time will tell if I keep Yukon this high by next week. 6. Edmond Sante Fe (Up 1) ESF continues to grow strong with technique and i'm all for it. i'm mainly worried for them about an early plateau that i've seen from schools in Edmond and in Moore. 7. Owasso (Down 1) This would feel crazy to me to have them this low a few years ago but here we are. I need to see them next saturday before making any more sure decisions, but Owasso tends to lack a lot of well developed shows that these other top groups really have. Definitely not a permanent place as of now however. 8. Southmoore (Same) What can I say but the competition is crazy, Southmoore would've been 5th had it been like any other year, but this year they just have crazy competitors. 9. Deer Creek (Up 1) Absolutely stunned from their performance. I loved how far they've come, enough to put them over a group I didn't think was possible at first. 10. Union (Down 1) Nothing against Union, but the competition has them so far right now, and I truly believe they might be pretty good, but nothing matched up to the crazy Oklahoma bands 1-9. 11. Choctaw (Same) Want to see a more recent performance from them before changing the ranks, but I believe it won't be better than Union as of now. 12. Edmond Memorial (Came from Below Top 12) What a Night for them! Beating THE MUSTANG BAND AT GE, mind you it is early season but that for me brings them to this highly contested 12th spot, could change later if they plateau but they deserve this spot for the phenomenal showcase of GE, and only being about 2 points from Mustang.
