Where can we feed 240 kids, staff and chaperones for a reasonable price around Indy. Our band is attending the Indy super regional. We’ll be arriving sometime around dinner time Friday evening. I need some recommendations! I’m thinking $10-15/person max, but less is better. Pizza is always an option, but if anyone has any different ideas I’m open!

We found in Indy it was easier to give the kids a food allowance and free time to go eat at the mall by the convention center. We don’t have busses while in Indy(just transfer ones from the airport and back) so everything had to be within walking distance for the band. For the meals we didn’t give food allowance out for- we would do catered pasta meals at the hotel or convention center- but those do cost more. Our food crew would do muffins and fruit for breakfast or breakfast taco’s or sandwiches from some different fast food places for the mornings- they’d have the kids come get it from them in a large conference room we would usually have for the whole stay.
You might try sending some emails to the boosters of schools you know have gone to Indy- that are traveling from out of town- I’ve found for a few items through the years if I email the booster president they’ve been happy to forward my question to the group that worked on that stuff in their booster club.

I think it depends on where you are staying. Any idea if you are downtown or somewhere else?
Also, how do you normally feed kids on a trip?

My kid was disappointed with the food options in the mall area. They were all fairly spendy. My suggestion would be a sandwich shop (Jimmy John's?) That will deliver to your hotel.

The mall has lost some food options - Chick fil A, for example, relocated away from the mall.

Also, hewhowaits- we have a Penn Station again? If it’s near my office that will be dangerous…

It was a Sugarfire BBQ place for a while, now they are turning it into a Taco Bell Cantina (Taco Bell with an alcohol license)

Two downtown options for feeding the masses (catering-wise): 1.) Potbelly Sandwiches - on Monument Circle and can cater to large groups and deliver. www.potbelly.com/catering2.) Sahm's Catering - we've used for years to cater large meetings in downtown Indy. Boxed lunches or similar are possible or large trays. www.sahmscateringcompany.com/If you want to turn the band loose to fend for themselves, there are some restraunt options on Monument Circle besides Potbelly...there's a Pizza by the slice right around the corner and a Qdoba (or Chipotle...can't remember) along with a Chik-fil-A and Five Guys all within a block. The Mall is no longer the best place to point the kiddos, I think. And as a downtown Indy commuter, my SECOND favorite part about GN week is running into the bands and parents wandering downtown searching for food and sightseeing. Can't wait to see you all in a few weeks!

Giordano's Pizza has a decent lunch combo special, as does the pizza by the slice in the lobby of the Hyatt. There's also a Subway in the Hyatt Lobby. Straight down Georgia St from the Convention Center is Hot Box pizza, and across from Gainbridge Fieldhouse is Sauce on the Side, which has all kinds of Calzones.

There is a "Food Hall" within walking distance of the stadium. It's not TOO far. But, it's doable. I think it's called the Garage. It has a bunch options. However, there is also a bar in the middle of it.

However, there is also a bar in the middle of it. I'm going to throw the caveat that "walking distance" is about 2 miles away from the stadium itself (which you can imagine the cold weather would have something to say about that...). I do recommend anyone to stop by at some point and check it out because the Bottleworks area is such a great addition to Mass Ave, but yes, there's bars abound. I don't know where schools would fall in terms of liability, but that's a big gotcha to deal with.

Yeah, it would be a good 40 minute walk each way on a good day if you know exactly where you're going. A great variety of food and a fun place, but not cheap. The closest spots to the stadium I guess would be the White Castle, Subway and Arby's on South Street to the east. There's a Panera at Illinois and Washington, too...
