Hi all, something extremely interesting was brought to my attention earlier, and I was wondering if any of you had insight as to what is going on here. This is taken from the 2005 MFA 990. Was this a contest that got cancelled? Did it even get past the planning stages?

I'm wondering if they explored moving the Pontiac regional to Toronto, because of what an absolute dump the Silverdome was? (Granted, that was 4 hours away.)
I looked through the old newsletters and I could find no mention of Toronto anywhere.

I never saw that document. That must have been internal to MFA as there was never anything posted about a potential Toronto regional. After the procedures for international border crossings to Canada was tightened following 9/11, I am surprised that was even considered.
Toronto would be less convenient for travel for Michigan bands compared to Indiana and Ohio. It might attract some New York bands. London, Kitchener or Hamilton would be more convenient to Michigan and New York bands. Maybe they were thinking of Canadian bands in the toronto area? I know drum corps were a huge presence in the Toronto area back in the early decades of drum corps. Not sure what the state of high school marching bands is in metro Toronto.
