Spartanburg HS would be an interesting choice. To my knowledge Spartanburg has never hosted state let alone any competition. Perhaps to offset upstate bands having to travel to CC last year?

Just looking at some pictures, Spartanburg seems like it could work well. Lots of parking, stadium is certainly big enough. My only concern is the single skinny ramp that is the only way to get props on the field. It does not look wide at all.
Also hope that the field is turf. Anything is better than the sandpit Colleton County was last year. The yardlines in the middle of the field were very faded by the end of prelims.

I couldn't get all State locations written down, but I did see 6A is at Spartanburg, 4A is at River Bluff and 1A is at Liberty. Bandlink should be updating today or tomorrow, hopefully, to show all locations. Also, the High Step State Championships will be at Wilson HS.

I can't find where Spartanburg High School has officially been selected for 6A state...but I sure hope it is. If I'm not mistaken, that stadium is fairly new-ish. I could totally be thinking of another school though. Last year, Colleton County was simply a result of no one else raising a hand to do it. It worked out well enough I suppose, but Spartanburg High School is a 20 minute drive for JFB. It is also a very nice stadium. I don't believe in any kind of "home field" or location advantage when it comes to state competitions (for example, Wando will be Wando no matter where they compete), but man the convenience alone would be worth it. Selfishly of course.

You probably won't, not until bandlink updates.
I sat in on the scbda meeting at Furman on Saturday and saw it. Was rather interesting to see what goes on there. Mostly business and elections for region members etc but they did show State site hosts, I just wasn't quick enough to get them all.

From a competitive statement not much has changed. However, it'll be like bringing back the golden oldies back in the fight with Fort Mill and Nation Ford. So that will be interesting, although Nation Ford obviously has the wide advantage.
At the moment though it is not even clear that Fort Mill will choose to compete in 5A, especially with their competitive decisions as of late.

There's much worse than BHP or BS such as Berea, Travelers Rest (at TR, not Furman), Chesnee, Landrum etc etc.
This year's state locations aren't terrible. I'm just worried about 4 out of 6 locations being Upper state and how it'll effect lower state participation.

None of the upper state bands stayed away from Colleton County (30 mins from the coast). I mean, JFB and Clover were among the first prelim draw times. 5 of the first 7 bands were upper state I believe.

JFB, Dorman and others big bands have a lot better funding than North, Latta, Hanahan and small bands is my point.

Circling back to the second part of the original post... After listening to Mr. Moss last night at the booster meeting, he confirmed that A.J. Pace is in fact, also on the design team (still includes Jim Moore/John Vanderkloff and company). He will be handling mostly electronic design. I also found out that the director of percussion at Mauldin (who's percussion has become top tier in the last couple of years) is joining A.J. at Byrnes. Moss is building a beast at JFB that will be apparent in the next few years. Also - the 6A state championship will either be held at Colleton County (again) or Spartanburg High School (fingers crossed). Spartanburg has been confirmed. Really wish they'd figure out a Columbia host. Going back and forth between corners of the state is pretty silly.
