Tampa Independent knows how to come alive once they roll into Dayton. Second year in a row coming to Dayton with a ranking on the cusp of making finals and making pure magic happen on that floor. The crowd was eating them up!

I'm going to need a mild sedative after watching Paramount.

Vox Artium knows how to sell a story. That show had me on the edge of my seat!

Does anyone know why Fusion's floor was a Rothko painting (and its significance to the music/concept)?
That being said they had me entranced....... The hype is real!!

Fusion WG continues to be the dark horse of the season. I said earlier in the season that they would be our next first-time medalist, but it was probably not in the cards this year. I'm changing my tune after my last two viewings and can't see a world where this show doesn't medal THIS year.

I had to go back and watch Fusion's show again after seeing they've popped the highest score so far.
I was curious about the narration. It's from "Her Face" by Arthur Gorges, a contrapuntal poem (a "grid" poem), one that can be read both vertically and horizontally and produce a very different experience depending on which way you read it. Interesting stuff.
It took me until now to realize that this is quite deeper than just a modern day take on a love story with the bells and whistles of a popular Euphoria soundtrack. It's odd, because the performers seem to emote in a way that trends more towards positive emotion, but the often chaotic music and harsh transitions, along with a lot of visual separation between the two performers throughout the show, makes it feel like there's some struggle or conflict preventing the two from being together even though there's an obvious connection. We see this a lot in plays, mythology, etc. - often two lovers separated by other forces, such as parents/family, friends, distance, etc. (Pyramus and Thisbe separated by a their parents, who built a wall between them, while they found ways to briefly connect through a gap in the wall). The two performers occasionally come together in the show, but they're often separated, whether it be by the platforms, individual performers stepping in between them, or the entire ensemble at the end. While still a beautiful and exciting show, the more I watch this the more I sense that it wasn't necessarily meant to be a happy ending as much as an expression of love when there are obstacles in the way.
But maybe I'm just reading into it too much... I just love this damn show. An instant all-time favorite for me.

I don't know what's happening in Texas this year, but The Woodlands, Origins Open, and Origins World have me completely engaged this season. I'm buying it. All three of them in my top 5 for the year.
Origins World's demand is off the charts. Those members must feel like they've been sprinting for six minutes straight by the time they get off the floor. I want them to do well this year, but if they want to max the show out they're going to need to do exactly what their show title says and get CONTROL of that beast of a show.
Still can't believe I'm hearing a Bloc Party song in a guard show...

Mirage was such a great way to end the night. The amount of partnering work in that show is insane.
Can't wait to see where this all shakes out. See you all tomorrow!

Now I am INSANELY excited to catch the IW groups tomorrow & Saturday. I tend to not view most of those shows until championships weekend (although what I've caught of Vox Artium had me floored a few weeks ago), and it sounds like it's an incredible line up of shows this season. Thank god!! Last year left me a little underwhelmed, whereas the 2022 IW Finals seemed like every show was an absolute banger.
I do love following the scholastic groups throughout the season, and no real surprises in SW - except for Cleveland missing Semis! I only got to catch a few performances today, their's included, and it looked like a solid run! I know the show itself has been killing them all season - too sleek of a design without enough breathing room or high/low moments. Wonderful wonderful group that was doing some really terrific, Finalist-level equipment work all throughout the performance that I felt the design itself didn't highlight or allow to shine. Who knows - curious to see the recaps to see what kept them out. I'm sure not making Semis stings after last year's jaw-dropping achievement of 10th in SW Finals after a mid-season promotion, but they'll be fine. Their training is obviously there; I can easily see them back as a sustainable SW Finalist with better programming. FloMo was the only group whose Prelims performance really stunned me - I thought they would handle the class better. I really expected them to show up better-prepared and, frankly, with a better production. Milford, despite not moving on, was actually super lovely, they earned every bit of that 78.50, and absolutely looked like they belonged in the class. Excellent training, terrific show, can't wait to see how they move forward from here! Well done. Palm Desert & Sunlake both cleaned up a ton and earned their rightful places in Semis, first time for each of them. I was curious who would move on out of those 4 (I didn't have Cleveland in this group heading into championships).
Quite curious to see how the race for Finals tomorrow pans out - Chino Hills, West Broward, & Norwin I'm sure will all give exceptionally hungry performances. West Broward a perennial finalist who won't want to drop out, Chino Hills a finalist the last 2 seasons, and Norwin itching to claw their way back in after last season. What a great SW year, not just at the top, but throughout the ranks!

Norwin! That was everything I wanted it to be when I saw the show announcement! Fantastic! Such a different take on the Lizzie Borden story than Arlington is taking this year. Norwin from the murder angle and Arlington from the justice angle. I love both, but Norwin's slightly menacing, eerie approach is so effective.
