Was thinking, I know Ayala hasn't performed yet, that if Avon somehow takes this title, they'd be the 1st school to win the big 4 in a single year... GN, SW Winter Guard, SW Percussion, & SW Winds
Also Brownsburg doing very well for a fresh promotion!

This may have been discussed ad nauseum, but why don’t we ever see Ayala and Chino Hills at BOA? The level they bring, even with a smaller band size could easily challenge ABC. It would definitely would be a crazy Indy with either of them there!

It would definitely would be a crazy Indy with either of them there! Well, the Ayala band grew along with the percussion built by Mark stone and Ike Jackson. It was only 2019 when Ayala was in GN Finals Covid really took down Ayala, along with rumors of other things. Chino Hills has emerged almost top dog in California since 2021. They've been on the list for some western regionals but have pulled out a few times.

I can’t remember the last time we had this many groups in PSW above 95 in prelims, never mind 96+. Usually it’s only one or two that eclipse 95 in prelims.
With that in mind, do we see another Scholastic World record broken this year? My gut tells me no, but this is a really high starting point for several groups. I think Ayala is the one to do it if they have a rock solid performance.
Awesome to see groups like Brownsburg and Bridgeland in the mix after in-season promotions (I’m sure I’m missing a couple others, but posting from mobile on vacation).
I can’t help but wonder how Cy-Fair would fit into this mix if they attended.

It would definitely would be a crazy Indy with either of them there! Sadly, it all has to do with money when it comes to going to Grand Nationals. It costs a whole lot less to take a drumline than it does to take a whole band, and with how far indy is from the California bands like Ayala, Chino Hills, and even Vista Murrieta, it takes a ton of money. That being said, Chino Hills does not usually do a lot of BOA from what I know.

Did Flo quietly remove their rewind function mid-stream? Just back from dinner and was hoping to catch MCM, but can no longer rewind.
Probably the one big benefit they had over other services…

Probably the one big benefit they had over other services… Looks like they did. I will say they've been having issues every so often cutting out during performances & going to ad breaks, so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it

That five unit fight for 7th place and seeing if MCM can find a way to come from behind for a medal in their 30th anniversary year are the two most compelling things happening in PIW, IMO.

This may have been discussed ad nauseum, but why don’t we ever see Ayala and Chino Hills at BOA? The level they bring, even with a smaller band size could easily challenge ABC. It would definitely would be a crazy Indy with either of them there! marimba11 covered it, but I just wanted to reiterate that Ayala was a BOA Grand Nats mainstay for 15 years - they attended on a 3 year rotation starting in 2004 (then 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016, & 2019 was their last year). They made GN Finals on their 2004, 2013, & 2019 trips, placing 12th in Finals each time. They really were the top dog in California for those 15 years. Covid really did a number on them, but they finally seem to be building back well. But they were the true kings of the California football fields prior. Chino Hills has had an incredible percussion program for the better part of 2 decades, but that really is all the program was until just the last few seasons - prior to that, they were the epitome of "incredible drumline with band accompaniment". Still a good group, but their percussion vastly outshone their winds & guard on the field and were the clear stars of the show. Their color guard has now grown exponentially in skill, and their winds & fall show designs have really risen to a much higher level as well - I think they could make their case for Finals at GN should they ever choose to attend. Post-Covid, they have taken the spot of California's top dog in the marching world. Worth noting too that throughout the 2000s, when James Logan & Arcadia were up there with Ayala & Chino Hills in indoor at WGI, those two groups fielded some of the best marching bands in California as well, but rarely ventured into BOA, even in-state. Ayala truly was the "ambassador" for California to the BOA world from that time until covid.

I have to admit I haven't paid much attention to the percussion side of things over the last few years - where's Petal & Centerville? Is it out of left field that Franklin Central didn't move on to Semis, or have they been trending that direction this season? Was Vista Murrieta just a one-off last year?

With the usual caveat that I am not a percussionist and have no ability to evaluate hands, cleanliness, etc.
I really like Franklin Central's show and hope we get to see them tomorrow in multicam. Very creative, interesting arrangements, love the use of the timpani throughout the program. I'm surprised they were low in their prelims block, though it was a tough block.
If any actual percussionist wants to explain why I'm wrong, of course, I'm all ears.

Vista Murrieta is still very much a strong PSW group, they just don’t go every year like a lot of the CA groups. Ayala, Chino Hills, and Arcadia seem to be the only groups that go every year. Centerville had unfortunately been sliding for about a decade now, and it looks like they’re rebuilding in PSA this year. Petal was meant to have their final season last year. Not sure if it was budget, different direction, or team moving on. But that was the communication. Then this year they surprisingly fielded a unit, but it placed on the lower end of PSO at their regional.
