Great video, thanks for posting! They also received statewide coverage here. With nearly a quarter of the band still in middle school, making it past prelims would be a huge accomplishment. Keeping my fingers crossed as we head into the weekend!

Very, very cool to see so much recognition and love as much as we've had to Dartmouth for coming out to Indy!

Heard this as an upcoming story on the local NPR station but didn't get to the hear the story itself, and the only article I can find about it via Google News is behind a paywall at the Canton Repository, but here it is straight from the Bluecoats' home page: " Bluecoats and EN-RICH-MENT Launch $1.75 Million Campaign to Build New Education Center in Downtown Canton".

Current fatalities is at 6. I know one is a band member and one a teacher. I believe 15 more in the hospital. Just awful. They were on their way to the Columbus Convention Center to play for their school board that had won an honor from the State.

I created this thread for those to post links to any articles that may crop up in the news this fall season. Hopefully positive news stories. I hoped so too, but it hasn't always worked out that way. We had the fatal bus crash here in Ohio yesterday, and today in Florida reporting: Miami Herald: " The band director of South Dade Senior High School was arrested Tuesday..." Unfortunately, I doubt anyone here needs to click on the link to guess why he was arrested. Does this happen more often with band (and corps) directors than with other teachers and coaches, or does it just seem that way to those of who follow the marching arts?

Does this happen more often with band (and corps) directors than with other teachers and coaches, or does it just seem that way to those of who follow the marching arts? My full opinion on this boils down to, it probably is more common for directors than general teachers, for multiple reasons 1. its one of the few subsets of education that overwhelmingly leans male. Generally, crimes of this nature are mostly committed by men. 2. Students tend to connect more and spend more time with their band/ corps director/ staff than any other educator, thus allowing for more "opportunities" for the bad ones. There is nothing inherently wrong with band as an activity, but it is generally advisable to be very diligent of what is going on behind closed doors, because it is sadly very easy for bad people to take advantage of it.

Music For All gets $410,000 grant from from Lilly Endowment to expand music education in Indianapolis Public Schools....
From the press release....
Music for All will be expanding its music education programming in Marion County thanks to a generous grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. The expanding programming is being funded through Lilly Endowmentβs initiative, Strengthening Youth Programs in Indiana. The aim of the competitive initiative is to help youth-serving organizations working throughout Indiana improve their abilities to promote the academic, physical, and social well-being of young people, ages five through 18. Music for All plans to use the $410,000 over the next three years to expand music education and access to music education in Marion County β specifically in the Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) system. The grant will help give IPS students greater access to Music for Allβs programming throughout the year, including a summer band camp, the Summer Symposium. Through the grant, Music for All will also work to expand its Indianapolis Public Schools Music and Leadership Access Initiatives including the Indianapolis School Music Festival, IPS Student and Director participation in the Summer Symposium, growth of IPS leadership workshop and Bands of America IPS Showcase performance during the Bands of America Grand National Championships, and classroom visits by Music for Allβs sponsored clinicians throughout the school year. βThis grant will give Music for All the ability to continue our mission, to create, provide, and expand positively lifechanging experiences through music,β said Jeremy Earnhart, President and CEO of Music for All. βWe are so grateful for our continued relationship with Lilly Endowment Inc. and this opportunity to bring more music programming to Indianapolis students.β

Iβm not convinced itβs just schedule being announced.

The Chicago Bears announced their looking to build a DOME stadium in the near future. Would BOA consider having a Chicago regional or bigger. How expensive is BOA to get an NFL Stadium? I love to see Week 4/5 regional something right before Supers. Iβm just feeding into my own delusion π

The Chicago Bears announced their looking to build a DOME stadium in the near future. Would BOA consider having a Chicago regional or bigger. How expensive is BOA to get an NFL Stadium? I love to see Week 4/5 regional something right before Supers. Iβm just feeding into my own delusion π The $6,000,000,000 (plus) question: Will this ever get built on the lakefront? Friends of the Parks is not surprisingly already raising a ruckus about it being built here, instead preferring the old Michael Reese Hospital site, which is about a mile south and off the lake a bit. Same thing with the historical folks, they're pitching a fit that the stadium would be demolished, but the colonnades would remain. This is the exact site where the Lucas Museum was to be built, and they put up such a fight that the lakefront should be "free and clear", that George Lucas gave up and moved his museum to San Francisco. Secondly, this would be really freaking hard to get to for schools. Sure, I-55 drops you off right there, but when it turns into Lake Shore Drive north, box trucks, semis, etc. etc. are verboten without a permit. You'd have to go through McCormick place to get there, which is kind of a hassle. I could honestly see a super regional here, and have this be a potential Grand National site replacement if/when the Colts decide Lucas Oil isn't good enough for them anymore and they bolt for a new city.
