When I was at Wright St, Cal was in the First 4 and didn't send their band, so they sent us their fight song score and their athletic department made a generous donation to our pep band to go cheer their team on. A highlight from that time even if it wasn't for a team we had any connection to otherwise

The Chicago Bears announced their looking to build a DOME stadium in the near future. Would BOA consider having a Chicago regional or bigger. How expensive is BOA to get an NFL Stadium? I love to see Week 4/5 regional something right before Supers. I’m just feeding into my own delusion 🙃 The $6,000,000,000 (plus) question: Will this ever get built on the lakefront? Friends of the Parks is not surprisingly already raising a ruckus about it being built here, instead preferring the old Michael Reese Hospital site, which is about a mile south and off the lake a bit. Same thing with the historical folks, they're pitching a fit that the stadium would be demolished, but the colonnades would remain. This is the exact site where the Lucas Museum was to be built, and they put up such a fight that the lakefront should be "free and clear", that George Lucas gave up and moved his museum to San Francisco. Secondly, this would be really freaking hard to get to for schools. Sure, I-55 drops you off right there, but when it turns into Lake Shore Drive north, box trucks, semis, etc. etc. are verboten without a permit. You'd have to go through McCormick place to get there, which is kind of a hassle. I could honestly see a super regional here, and have this be a potential Grand National site replacement if/when the Colts decide Lucas Oil isn't good enough for them anymore and they bolt for a new city. Press conference for the new stadium tomorrow.

I'm not sure if Lucas Oil gives BOA a sweetheart deal or something to keep it there. To me, I'm not sure how you'd fit in another SR on the calendar if you keep the one in Indy. I guess you could replace the Indy SR with Chicago and keep GN where it is. Chicago sportsball team owners don't exactly have the greatest reputation for, well, anything, so I can't imagine them giving any sort of deal.

The Bears won't own the stadium, similar to Soldier Field.

I love to see Week 4/5 regional something right before Supers. I’m just feeding into my own delusion 🙃 I am under the impression that the city of Indianapolis and Lucas Oil Stadium, which correct if I am wrong, is actually owned by the state of Indiana with a licensing agreement to be named Lucas Oil, have some incentives to have BOA and DCI hold the big competitions at that stadium. I am sure they bring in some big revenue to the city. So I suspect it is very dependent upon who owns the stadium as to what they will charge. If it is owned by a state or city entity, they may charge less as an incentive to generate revenue. A stadium owned by a corporation in a huge city like Chicago would probably charge an arm and a leg. This is probably why BOA regionals held in the mid Atlantic and northeast have been in college stadiums. The Michigan State Marching Band Championships are held every year at Ford Field in Detroit. The Ford Motor Company purchased the naming rights to the stadium but it is actually owned by the Detroit/Wayne County Stadium Authority. In addition to marching band, state championship football and wrestling competitions are also held here. I believe they give a little better deals to these in state high school circuits. For an organization like BOA, that may not be the case. The turnout would probably also not be woth the expense for BOA, although I would love to see a BOA regional at Ford Field in Detroit.

Soldier Field is owned by the Chicago Park Department, and would be demolished under the plans unveiled today, save for the colonnades. My assumption is the Illinois Sports Facilities Agency would be the new owners, as they're going to be asked to pony up $900 million. They'll probably be asked to pony up for a new White Sox stadium as well (unless they bolt), and a renovation for the Fire to play...somewhere? Guaranteed Rate Field? Capacity looks to be about 70,000ish. The current plan is shovels in the ground in 2025, and opening in 2028. Good luck with that timeline!

Gives Illinois 4 years to organize into a true ISSMA or UIL marching circuit and host it's first unified state marching band championship! It can happen right Balash? Right? Balash!!?
