"Broken Cartwright" now has it's own thread in the General subforum, so if you're looking to discuss that then that's your place!

I wonder what a SW Ohio invasion would look like at Grand Nats Like every other Grand Nationals. If there's any bands from. SW Ohio I'd really like to see at Grand Nats it would be Kettering Fairmont or Beavercreek

I wonder what a SW Ohio invasion would look like at Grand Nats Probably your normal bunch. Miamisburg, Centerville, one (or two?) of the Lakotas, mason, Fairfield, I mean, there’s so many of em. I have zero info into who’s going besides mason and the other obvious names so 🤷

A lot of you are holding Broken Arrow really low - I know they had an off season, but is it enough to say they’ll struggle next year? It is broken arrow, after all 🤪

It is broken arrow, after all 🤪 I don't think BA under Mason is too big of a stretch. Mason feels like they're very very close to a breakthrough and BA will be growing into a new identity. Though I don't think BA being even better than before is out of the question either...

I am interested to see if the breakup affects them, as well. If it is only BA, the sea change may be enough to affect them.

Mason has been on a path of exponential growth, and I would say not only is it possible, it may even be likely to see them win it all within the next 4 or 5 years.

Their ability to convey emotion is in the running for the best in the nation right now.

With the structure changes to UIL will we see less consistency about when the TX heavy-hitters will attend? I wonder if could even out a little more or if just more will go? Could we see half the bands in the finals being from TX for the foreseeable future? Not just the structure changes, but also the judging system, the practice restrictions, when bands are allowed to start learning the show, the increasingly hot summers, etc. etc. etc. This is not just affecting when Texas bands attend. 2023 was supposed to be the year of 7 or 8 Texas bands in GN Finals. We had 5. Given what I saw in 2021 and 2022, the fact that James Bowie and CTJ did not make finals, The Woodlands came in 5th and Hebron got 3rd in music effect; Texas you have a problem. I sincerely hope there are some changes in UIL in the coming years. Texas groups are so strong, it is a shame they have such barriers placed on them.

I honestly think if UIL didn't have the rules they currently have at least one or more of the schools from LISD that have attended grand nationals would have at least one grand national champion title

Does anyone know if Carroll or Bentonville will be going to grand nats next year? I'd love to see them both join again! Bentonville just plainly did great and I'm happy to see another great Indiana band come back after not participating in BOA in a long time.

Don’t think Bentonville’s district allows them to go more than a certain distance in consecutive years.

It would be great to see them go to one of the north Texas regionals now that they've proven they can hold their own with the best!

Don’t think Bentonville’s district allows them to go more than a certain distance in consecutive years. They attended GN in both 2015 & 2016! My initial understanding was that Scott Tomlinson really intended to model the program after Broken Arrow where he came from, and he did so in many ways, one of which was to turn them into a frequent or yearly GN attendee. I don't know if that is still the case under Hendrix, although obviously incredible things are happening. Who knows what their goals are. I would love to see them attend yearly. For what it's worth, I've never heard of an admin or a district outside of TWHS/Conroe ISD (who always seem to have more odd rules as a district than most) setting out-of-state travel parameters in terms of frequency - most often it simply comes down to fundraising capabilities and the desires/support of the community.

That last, yes. B-ville is likely going to have that in spades, B-ville the town being the location of WalMart's HQ. We'll see if the same happens with B-ville West over the next few years, though they're still a relatively new high school. Fayetteville might be the next in NWA to cultivate a national level program [attended BOA Johnson City this year].

Which Ohio high school marching bands that have not attended Grand Nats would you personally like to see at Grand Nats 2024? IS there any Ohio High School Marching Band that hasn't attended before? Jokes aside, has Grove City ever attended Nationals before? If they haven't they would probably be one I'd like to see attend. I remember them attending the Indy Super Regional awhile back and they put up really strong music scores.

Really hoping for some California bands to make their way over for Grand Nationals, but I don't know if that is gonna happen this year. Chino Hills, Gahr, Vista Murrieta, James Logan and Ayala (Obviously) could all be finalist contenders if they can get enough money to get out there. Alongside other bands that could potentially medal in Class A, AA, or AAA.
