Casual observer of Georgia bands here, but it seems you never know what you'll get with Mill Creek from a scoring perspective yeah? 100% true

BOA East Tennessee Regional Analysis & Prediction
Where: ETSU Ballard Health Athletic Center (Mini-Dome), Johnson City, TN
Previously in 2023: Dobyns-Bennett won convincingly over runner-up Lafayette (KY)
Weather Forecast (indoor event, still relevant though): Sunny, 72 F
States Represented (8): Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia
Returning 2023 Finalists (6): Dobyns-Bennett (1st), Lafayette (2nd), Cass (4th), George Rogers Clark (5th), Lake Hamilton (8th), Elizabethton (11th) Pre-Show Analysis:
This show has always been an interesting one to predict, and this year is no different. The impacts of Hurricane Helene did throw a wrench into the initial schedule, with some groups like Panther Creek opting to withdraw from this regional and vice-versa with a couple of other bands. That said, Dobyns-Bennett is the likely favorite to win a third straight regional title this weekend, following a convincing victory over Evansville North & Lakota East at the Chattanooga Regional 2 weeks ago. I'm very interested to see how their show has developed since then. 2019 Eastern Tennessee Regional Champion Lafayette however will once again pose a challenge to Dobyns-Bennett for the title, but both of them will have to contend with another group that will look to surprise. Last weekend, James F. Byrnes took a surprising victory over Wando at the Carolina Regional in Conway, and they will be attending this regional after having to withdraw from the Chattanooga Regional. Byrnes will look to surprise once again this weekend.
Another group that could break into the Top 3 groups here is Lakota West, who will be making the trip from Ohio. At the Central Ohio Regional earlier this season, Lakota West took a narrow loss to Kiski Area, but still had an impressive showing. They have a fun western-themed show this year, and I'm excited to see how it's come along since Obetz. A good showing for Lakota West this weekend could set them up for success next weekend at the St. Louis Super Regional. Returning finalists Cass & George Rogers Clark will look to build on the results that they put up at earlier regionals this season (6th at Chattanooga for Cass, 9th at Obetz for GRC). William G. Enloe had a solid showing last weekend in Conway finishing 9th, and they will look to back that up this weekend. Siegel, Elizabethton, Lake Hamilton, & Clover have all placed well at this regional in the past and will look to do so again this weekend. Groups such as Mill Creek, Whitewater, Hardin Valley, and South Forsyth will likely be vying for the final couple of spots in finals.
Final Prediction:
1. Dobyns-Bennett H.S., TN 2. James F. Byrnes H.S., SC 3. Lafayette H.S., KY 4. Lakota West H.S., OH 5. Cass H.S., GA 6. Clover H.S., SC 7. George Rogers Clark H.S., KY 8. Siegel H.S., TN 9. Lake Hamilton H.S., AR 10. William G. Enloe H.S., NC 11. Mill Creek H.S., GA 12. Elizabethton H.S., TN
Class A Champion: Archbishop Alter H.S., OH Class AA Champion: Cass H.S., GA Class AAA Champion: Dobyns-Bennett H.S., TN Class AAAA Champion: James F. Byrnes H.S., SC

Elizabethton is looking pretty good. That opening struck me as immediately familiar: Infinity 2023. Different from there on out, of course.

Marc Whitlock designs for Nafo.
Max Mullinax also used to be percussion at colts a few years before I got there, nobody had really anything good to say ☠️

JFB has a taaaaaallllllll task this weekend. I don’t think they’ve ever beat DB. It’s going to be a challenge to even get silver. I hope their part 4 doesn’t decrease the value of the show. We will all be seeing it for the first time together LOL!

DB has yet another great DB show, and for them to slip would mean one heck of a bad rep, and JFB having the best show of the season.

My opinion is that DB’s show is easy for them. Especially visual where there is a lot of park n bark. Which might not be evident at regionals, but will be at GN.
Now the good news for DB is they are performing it VERY well and I think there is still enough room to grow so they don’t pleateu.
Byrnes really has no apparent weakness right now so I think that will carry them far. Lakota West has also already won a regional.
I think Cass and Lafayette will be looking inside at those medalists.
Now I’ve been quite wrong in my predictions this year so I’m going to remain quiet on the rest haha

Musically they are solid. I'd say they are ahead of where they usually are, especially for early October. Unfortunately this is the most park and barky show they've had in quite some time. The individual visual score has been a thorn in DB's side for many years, so maybe the easier drill will help them in that regard? Who's to say. But I'm excited to finally see the full show this weekend!

I get that JFB and DB are great bands. I also know that in 2019 Lafayette showed out for the win. Their show this year has a ton of production value, both musically and visually. It’ll be a fantastic competition, but don’t be shocked at the end of the night if Lafayette is on top. So excited for Johnson City!

I don't think anyone does (def not the JFB delegation LOL - we've seen this movie too many times). I think the silver medal is where we'll see the real competition. That alone will be a challenge for JFB, LW and Lafayette.

Lafayette videos I’ve seen this year are BONKERS; it’s a very clean show! I could see them making it tough for JFB to take the silver. In my eyes, West is the underdog of the top 4. But who knows, perhaps West will jump, JFB will beat Dobyns, we don’t know! Should be a good group of bands that will keep things interesting.

A little late, but here are my final predictions:
1. Dobyns-Bennett H.S., TN 2. Lafayette H.S., KY 3. James F. Byrnes H.S., SC 4. Lakota West H.S., OH 5. Clover H.S., SC 6. Cass H.S., GA 7. Lake Hamilton H.S., AR 8. George Rogers Clark H.S., KY 9. South Forsyth H.S., GA 10. Elizabethton H.S., TN 11. Whitewater H.S., GA 12. Mill Creek H.S., GA
First out: Siegel H.S., TN
A: Archbishop Alter H.S., OH AA: Cass H.S., GA AAA: Dobyns-Bennett H.S., TN AAAA: James F. Byrnes H.S., SC
Though Dobyns-Bennett and Lafayette are arguably the two favorites to win here, given the outcomes last weekend at Conway, I would not at all be surprised if Byrnes was able to surge to the top or at least snag the silver. Lakota West is another group that could certainly break into medal territory with a clean run. I fully expect Clover and Cass to round out the rest of the top half.
Lake Hamilton is a perennial regional finalist and is a safe group to place your bets on two performances. George Rogers Clark is coming off of a 5th place finish here last year and a solid outing at Obetz a few weeks ago, so they will be coming in hot. Newcomer South Forsyth came within ~3 points of Lambert at a local Georgia show this past weekend, so I have a good feeling about seeing them twice. Elizabethton is another reliably solid group.
There is an insane amount of bubble bands here fighting for those last couple of spots. I have two very big wild cards in those last two spots right now. People seem to forget that Whitewater placed 3rd in prelims and 6th in finals here in 2022, but, they did then slip to 16th last season. So, I split the difference at put them in 11th. Post-COVID Mill Creek has been tough to predict, so I’ll be excited to see where they end up. Also fighting for a finalist spot are groups like Siegel, William G. Enloe, Archbishop Alter, Cambridge, Green Hope, Hardin Valley Academy and River Bluff.

Nah I think you have a pretty good/safe list there. JFB will be contending with a potential post victory let-down and just getting part 4 on the field this week. DB is going to do what they do. And from what I've seen, Lafayette is strong. I haven't been able to find anything on LW, but I know they will be coming in better than Obetz. The real battlefield will be for that bronze/silver slot.
