I know that my predictions are going to be SO far off, but this is how I saw/heard it.
1. Hebron (Music) 2. Avon (Visual, GE) 3. Carmel 4. Vandegrift 5. Leander 6. CTJ 7. William Mason 8. Woodlands 9. Ayala 10. Round Rock 11. Harrison 12. Homestead
One thing to note.... there is going to be a TON of difference from judge to judge. While I expect Avon will take the lead from several on the visual side, I’m expecting for them to hurt in the music caption (with so many fantastic Texas performances).

I got a chance to watch all of the top 22 (except the first band... why were they before the break? ). Here's how I saw it from the FloMarching High Cam: Finals Locks: 1. Vandegrift H.S., TX 2. Hebron H.S., TX 3. Leander H.S., TX 4. Avon H.S., IN 5. Carmel H.S., IN 6. Round Rock H.S., TX 7. Claudia Taylor Johnson H.S., TX 8. The Woodlands H.S., TX 9. William Mason H.S., OH ----------------------------------------- Finals Worthy: 10. Lawrence Township, IN 11. Homestead H.S., IN 12. Harrison H.S., GA 13. Union H.S., OK 14. Rockford H.S., MI 15. Ayala H.S., CA 16. Park Vista H.S., FL 17. Marian Catholic H.S., IL ----------------------------------------- Also finals-worthy : 18. James F. Byrnes H.S., SC 19. Brownsburg H.S., IN 20. Centerville H.S., OH 21. Miamisburg H.S., OH A few thoughts on this... #1. No, I'm not from Texas. I just thought the TX bands were PHENOMENAL and INCREDIBLY CLEAN. Will they sweep tonight? Probably not. But would I be surprised if they did? Not one bit. #2. This is my first time watching all of these shows--except for Centerville--this season, so I'm judging based only on what I saw on the High Cam in semis. #3. Every single band that performed today was incredible and deserves so much recognition for all of their hard work. #4. I'm sure these predictions are going to be very wrong, but on the off chance I'm right (I'm looking at you Round Rock in the top 6)--I want bragging rights.

Yes Ben Davis. I’ve heard good things about the show all year but haven’t seen it until now. Ben Davis was the giant of the field in my youth. Good to see them still here. Marching band is better with BD purple in it.

What a way to close out Semis, BD! Still don't know how that didn't make ISSMA State Finals. Really cool show; fresh & current. Congrats on your first time back in Semis in a few years, BD! Very well earned.

"Bohemian Rhapsody" really is too difficult for marching band. I must have heard 15 versions of it this year, and not one band gives the third and fourth movement to full ensemble at the real speed. As often as not, they skip that part or they give it to the pit or they really water it down. Whoch bands are you talking about doing Bohemian Rhapsody?

Not to single out any other finalists of course, but BD had that early slot, and the weather was just terrible. It was terrible for all but some were likely hurt more than others. Personally having seen them, I think they should have been in, but I wasn’t at semi state.

That would be Carmel 🤓 you must be new here I think they're referencing Texas A&M Commerce whos on the field now. I sure hope their being sarcastic. Not being sarcastic. They really do sound quite good. After further consideration, I honestly would be extremely surprised if they make finals though

Guard note! Seen some fantastic programs here this weekend! I believe we have 9 SW programs in semis currently, correct me if I’m wrong (Avon, Carmel, Miamisburg, PCEP, Fishers, Park Vista, CTJ, The Woodlands, and Ayala). And some pretty amazing SO and SA programs too like Ben Davis and Homestead. Love seeing everyone’s choreography and book! Greenfield central is SW too No they went back down to SO sadly

Well just then I was thinking of Lakota West, who was playing it as I typed. But Centerville also played it. Yes I know Carmel is playing the Queen Symphony not any actual Queen song in particular. Grove City played it, and one music judge at the Indy Super put them just barely ahead of Carmel. And there were another dozen or so Ohio bands I saw play it this year. And thinking back, not one of them attempted to give the winds the hard part in full complexity or tempo. Wait I just remembered one group who did this year: Reading Buccaneers. But they're a drum corps not a high school marching band.

Semi Finals thoughts: Congrats to everyone on a truly spectacular show! I have seen every GN since 1997 (...yikes...) and this years Semi Finals is without a doubt the toughest one i have ever seen. The level of difficulty, execution and show design from every group is just unreal. It is amazing that the quality of this activity continues to grow over time. Every band pushes each other to up their game, and the audience benefits.
Big congrats to the bands that are approaching 20-40 years of consistent excellence. Marian, PCEP, Union, Leander, Avon, Carmel, Centerville, Lawrence Twp, Byrnes, North Hardin, Homestead and Jenison have been performing at such a high level for such a long time. Its crazy to me that bands i can remember from my 1st GN in the mid 90's are still right in the thick of things 22 years later. To maintain such strong programs through out the years is a true testament to the directors, staff, students, parents, boosters and administrators.
Texas... wow. The depth of the programs down there is mind blowing. The level of musicality coming from all 6 of these groups today is unrivaled.
Vandegrift, what an outstanding 1st showing. For a school that didn't exist 10 years ago, it is amazing to be in the position you are in.
Mason, congrats on the rebound. We have seen so many programs fall due to similar situations outside of the hands of the kids. Being able to pick up the pieces and rebuild to the level you were at in 2016 in 2 years is amazing.
Special call out to Fishers and Brownsburg, you have potential to join Avon, Carmel, Lawrence and Homestead as historic Indiana powerhouses. Its great to see new programs grow and thrive in the matter of a few short years. If these programs keep up the momentum they will be in the finalist discussion, no doubt. i can remember when Avon was struggling to make semis, and then everything clicked, and they carried the momentum into where they are today.
thank you to all the bands for an amazing show today. I can't wait for the big show this evening.

After much debate and flipping a couple coins, I'm going with the following Finalists:
Tier 1 (your medalists) Avon Leander Vandegrift
Pick the order. Could be anything. But this is the top 3. I'll place a wager on that.
Tier 2 (the rest of the top half) Hebron Carmel Claudia Taylor Johnson
Not 100% sold on this but I feel pretty confident.
Tier 3 (the other locks) William Mason The Woodlands Round Rock
Feel really good about that order for 7-9.
Tier 4 (very strong bubble) Homestead
Tier 5 (less strong bubble) Ayala Union
I think that rounds out the field.
Just missing: Marian Catholic Fishers Lawrence Township Harrison Park Vista
I could see any of these bands in without too much shock.
I'm sure I'll be wrong.
