On the 7/30 list of confirmed bands, I see sixteen bands I'd classify as absolute, no-doubt locks to make Finals in any other season. This year is going to be insane. I only really count 11 no doubt lockins really. Heck of a lot of bubble contenders though. Would not be shocked to see another tie to get into finals again. |

One thing to consider in a Wando or Mason discussion is that Mason had a semblance of a season last year, including performing in LOS twice in one day (albeit not as part of a competition). Another is that this will be the first competitive marching season since the school split in Mount Pleasant, SC so Wando will have lost some experienced band members to the new school as well as losing the year of development for incoming freshmen last year. This alone is probably enough to move Wando out of the near lock discussion to the next tier, IMO. |

Tarpon Springs will not be anywhere near the bottom half I can guarantee you this much. People always underestimate non-Texan bands and every year they show up and compete on the same if not higher plane than them. |

Will Wando pull another 2016 and surprise everyone (with a bizarre show)?
Will Tarpon Springs be in the LOWER finals tier for the first time in forever? Perhaps Carmel as well?
Will Blue Springs be able to stay in the top half of finals?
Will Avon even medal?
Will Texas take top 3?
So many crazy predictions yet all are possible this year.

Will Avon even medal? Will Texas take top 3? (1) Yes, and (2) No. Anything is possible in this, the craziest of seasons. But 2006 was the last time Avon didn't medal. It's also the last time no Indiana band medaled. And Texas still only had one medalist that season. 2019 was the first year since 2005 that Texas had two medalists. And I expect there will be six Texas bands in Finals, just like 2019. But I don't see Texas dominating all three medal spots, especially in this stacked of a year. |

Wando is coming fresh off Covid AND a school split in 2020, so they’re certainly more vulnerable than usual. With that said I’d be shocked if they don’t at least make finals. Their staff stayed almost completely intact save for guard.

You’re acting like a tornado came and destroyed all their supplies and 99% of their band quit. They’re going to be fine. Their staff knows what they’re doing. This happened with Vista Ridge in 2019 where everyone was so sure they wouldn’t be able to follow their successful season that their show was too “art house” and whatnot and then they up and took a medal from Leander and Hebron. |

I think perhaps we could break this into smaller tier sets just so we can "debate" further lol. That said, this is just my own opinion as of right now without seeing anything on the season yet. Anything in any tier can, of course, crash into an above tier or slide down for various reasons. Most importantly, this is just for fun and no disrespect being given to any group. These are all done of the best of the best! Again, anything can happen this year which is exciting.
Tier 1 (most likely to take the Eagle)
Avon
Carmel
Broken Arrow
Ronald Reagan
Tier 2 (Contenders but certainly high locks)
The Woodlands
Tarpon Springs
Flower Mound
Marcus
Tier 3 (the wild card tier. could jump to tier one)
CTJ (yes they won* State in a Covid year but their GN placements are consistently in this range)
Vista (first GN... But significantly improving. Wild card baby!)
Blue Springs (like the tier says, wild card. Depends on the show they bring imo)
Tier 4 (their are question marks but should make finals)
Mason (they've bounced back but they've yet to really show consistency imo)
Wando (always strong and solid but school split and Covid disruption leaves lots of mystery surrounding them)
Tier 5 (bubbles....MADE OF BLOOD...BLOOD BATH FOR FINALS)
DB (consistent finalist but I mean, woof. This contest)
Homestead (same as above but with the wrinkle of fully new head director who's had a year at the helm but during Covid, and two new assistant directors and again, one year at the helm of this titan program)
O'Fallon (haven't been around enough to establish consistency but have the ability)
Round Rock (never underestimate this programs ability to make GN it's b**** cause they always seem to find a way lol)
Tier 6 (outside looking in but with the right show... Controversial picks baby!)
Castle
Fishers
Centerville
Rockford (they be creeping up...)
Center Grove
Brownsburg
Rosemount
Lawrence Township
All of these groups are fantastic in their own right. It's going to be a spectacular year for band imo!
