I liked Pelham when I saw them here in 2019, 🤷♂️ Not sure how well they weathered the Covid storm but could be a wild card to make top 5.

I think Top three will go to Walton, Mill Creek, and Boiling Springs. Tbh Walton had a really good chance at winning but I think with a really good run by the other top bands that can change.

I think prelims is going to be a good competition. All of these bands in the past have been dominated and covered up by power houses such as Harrison, Wando, Byrnes etc. it’s going to be an amazing showing.

The weather is looking to be HIGHLY disrespectful here. It will be the ultimate kick in the between-me-down-there if this were cancelled due to weather after already being the smallest regional in recent memory (maybe even this century?).

Can’t be any worse than 2019 😂😂 or 2015 😂. On the whole this show does not have good luck with weather. It probably is the smallest…

Nope, but it's close. Here's a list of the regionals that have had fewer than 15 bands sign up in the past dozen or so years. 9 - 2016 Hillsboro, OR 9 - 2019 Bakersfield, CA 11 - 2018 Pleasant Hill, CA 12 - 2009 Towson, MD 13 - 2013 Hillsboro, OR 13 - 2013 Monroeville, PA 13 - 2017 Powder Springs, GA 14 - 2012 Akron, OH 14 - 2015 Monroeville, PA 14 - 2016 Monroeville, PA 14 - 2017 Canton, OH Due to an incredibly freak storm that hit the Pacific NW in 2016, most bands were forbidden from even traveling to the Hillsboro Regional. Only two bands showed up (Mead H.S., WA and Eastside Catholic H.S., WA) and they did an indoor performance and clinic.

For those wondering exactly why Russell County dropped, here's some good insight. - The county is sitting at around 80% ICU capacity
- Only a 45.5% vaccination rate INCLUDING partially vaccinated
- Daily new cases sits at 185.7/100k, well above the threshold for critical of 75/100k
I know most of y'all probably are, but I'll still say it again: GET VACCINATED, the marching season for you or your kids (even yourself if you're just a fan) quite literally depends on it. stats taken from: covidactnow.org/us/kentucky-ky/county/russell_county/?s=22951216

My band attended Akron in 2012, the small attendance was explained to us that there was a local competing Ohio show that weekend that had taken bands away from Akron… never found out what it was or if they were even correct

I don't know a whole lot about either (maybe a little more about Walton).

I don't know a whole lot about either (maybe a little more about Walton). There is no true reason. Guts as you said. BS is in a little more of a consistent area right now while GA, and that county in particular, seems to be going through a continuing decline. A lot just keeps happening sadly. I think a lot of our results predictions will depend on how well the bands have weathered the Covid storm.

If anybody watching, what are we seeing in terms of numbers? I just saw the schedule for Central North Carolina competition next week and virtually every band is one to two classes below their usual and the classes in our state are based on size.

BOA goes by school size of 10-12 grades, not band size. So you could have 3000 kids in the school and be considered 4A for this competition but only have 95 members. quote author=" cornet" source="/post/24137/thread" timestamp="1631977055"]If anybody watching, what are we seeing in terms of numbers? Out and About now, but yeah the southeast bands are almost all smaller except for maybe DB. Especially the major cities which suburbs which more covid restrictions - so no real surprise.
