Emitting some BK vibes only to go full Bloo in the ballad, much appreciated Leander🤗🤗

Wow, awesome balance and blend in this clarinet octet, and the horn soloist!!!! She absolutely nailed it, especially compared to last night.

I love the use of the swing flags in that ballad, makes the guard seem much larger. and that impact just hits you in the chest, wow

In their defense(s): Coppell and Pearland were better than RR, Bowie and both Wests. So to insinuate that the performance re-scheduling has anything to do with their advancement to finals is to be incorrect I interpreted it as “DESPITE the rescheduling” Ahh, my apologies. It is very difficult to project and detect tone on the internet.

Fantastic performance by Leander to open the finalist bands! Trumpets were fantastic throughout the entire show, that opening riff is so catchy. Love the more upbeat productions in contrast to a lot of shows this year that are a bit more traditionally classic. This was a definite fan favorite.

Oh this competition is gonna be spicy if Leander is considered a "lower half" band.

On the bus headed home with a nice three hours to watch San Antonio finals.
Leander’s show is so cute! The ending had me grinning. I love that sousaphone soloist! Despite the guard being on the smaller end, whoever writes for them is doing a fantastic job.
“Oh what do you march?” “The van.”

I simply can't think of a more enjoyable way to have led off the competitive field tonight. Leander was absolute fire tonight. This was easily one of the most enjoyable and accessible shows I've seen this year, made even better by the unbelievable performance quality. They showed such a mastery of articulation and clarity while adapting to some music styles we don't commonly see on the field. I didn't know Leander had this side to them and I'm all in.
Major props to the tuba soloist. Never thought I'd hear multiphonics on the field!

LEANDER!!!! WHAT A WAY TO OPEN FINALS! They threw down QUITE the impressive bar for the night and unquestionably demonstrated that they are still the Leander we all love and no doubt earned their spot tonight.
I would just like to say that I would have loved to have seen that show on a non-Covid year with a full-sized band & guard and on a year where they weren't playing catch up for a lot of the season, when they would've had more opportunities to add some Leander-esque minute details.
That said, I adored what I saw today. I'm thrilled they got to go on first and lay down the bar for entertainment and quality, which they did. I hope that band and staff is immensely proud of the growth and work they've put in this season!

I love shows with contemporary (at least, contemporary in contrast to classical) music for this very reason.

I honestly did not realize the first drill set was a road until re-watching it just now. This show definitely has been growing on me the more times I've watched it. I think music GE was quite good from Leander.

Some thoughts on Leander:
This HAS to be the coolest show for sousaphones since L.D. Bell 2003. They were EVERYTHING!!
The way the stage is used in the ballad, from beginning to end, is absolutely magical. Despite being masterfully mapped out, it felt like the most gentle, organic accumulation. This is my favorite use of Bon Iver's "715 - CREEKS" that I've seen on the field.
Such a good show!! Congrats, Leander!!

Also, I might lose it if I hear miss Perry’s voice one more time.

What an exceptional performance!! Vista Ridge's brass are INSANE. I've really come around on this show and enjoy it quite a bit now. They're much cleaner now than they were several weeks ago. The battery feature in the opener was amazing and I love the soloists in this show. I don't see a scenario where Vista doesn't make finals at Grand Nationals.

Vista Ridge!! The high cam does not do this show justice- I feel so much better after watching it on the multicam. I don’t see how anyone could hate on this band. That was so phenomenal! I feel like we’re already seeing next week level performances!

Vista Ridge is intent on making folks realize they aren't going anywhere after bursting onto the scene only a few years ago. They're really upping the difficulty every year and they have certainly met the challenge this year. This show is going to turn some heads at Nats and they'll be easily in finals.
The one thing I will say, and I need to be careful with how this comes across, but I can't believe nobody has made the executive decision to strip the Katy Perry vocals from the show. I can't help but feel like it slightly cheapens what is an otherwise very elegant music book, and it really doesn't seem to add a whole lot to the show.

I loved that show, it was over before I knew it and was really well paced, but I can see why it was bottom half. Some stickouts musically, especially in the closer. But they marched REALLY well, and i see it 8th/9th. VR is too good to be below 10
